Time to take Tipp out of Semple!

Killarney maybe?

While Killarney has happy memories for Tipp, its further away for the majority of people in both counties to either Thurles or Limerick. Plus, it has a smaller capacity, and only one seated stand (the other main stand is still terraced and uncovered, I believe). I don't think it can be considered a realistic option for a Munster hurling final, not when there are better options available.
Until Pairc Ui Chaoimh is up and running, I really think Thurles or Limerick are the only realistic options for a Munster final.

That aside, it is ridiculous that Galway can't get a home game for their Leinster championship matches, that needs to change.

So a Leinster tie should be played in Connacht? If Galway don't like it they can go to Munster where I am sure Marlon your county will be delighted to facilitate a Munster tie in Connacht.

dont be ridiculous looking for the game to be played in limerick
that would mean waterford would have to go through thurles and an hour or so further to the gaelic grounds
killanrye would be brilliant but unfortunatly its 2 and half hours from waterford and 2 hours for most of tipp
so be a ridiculous waste of money to drag people all the way there too.
thurles is close for waterford and is the main stadium in munster
home advnatage my a**
waterford beat cork in thurles the last day while tipp were playing there semi final in limerick
so if anything tipp would be far more comfortable playingthe game in limerick than waterford
going by that logic

Hill, forget about Killarney. It is a non runner.2 big hurling games played there in 50 years id say.A silly proposition. As for Waterford people having to travel through Thurles to get to Limerick, you obviously dont have a good grasp of geography in Munster.Waterford fans would,i imagine, travel through Clonmel,Cahir,Tipperary Town or maybe Cashel,to get to Limerick.Certainly not Thurles. If i was a Waterford man,id rather play Tipp in a neutral Limerick, than in Tipps back yard.Home advantage will not win the game for Tipp, but it is still an advantage. You are still waffling on about home advantage not being a real concept. In any sport.I think your in a tiny minority on that one.

Thurles was the only viable option from a logistics point of view. There are parts of Waterford that are a shorter drive to Thurles than Portroe, Lorrha etc.

From a money point of view I am guessing the Waterford county board are getting some much needed cash out of this. The gas thing is Waterford play more championship games in Thurles than Tipp. It's will be their 2nd outing this summer to our first.

Lads Thurles is more like a home ground to Waterford, they play in Thurles every year Waterford V Cork or Limerick or Clare all played in Thurles. At best Tipp get to play in Thurles maybe every second year and only for Cork being closed we would not get to play there this year. Ask anyone if you can't hurl in Thurles there is something wrong. Waterford are delighted with this game in Thurles as when was the last time they played in Limerick.

Killarney,Tipps players are brought up playing in Semple.Club games, intercounty etc.I know Tipp train in Thurles in Dr Morris Park, right beside Semple Stadium.Im sure Tipp will be training in Semple leading up to the game.Nobody knows every dimension of that ground as well as Tipp.It is undoubtedly a help.

I know Cuede, I'm just having some fun with this thread just like everyone else seems to be. Waterford have two training session scheduled for Semple stadium ahead of the match, the Tipp county board very quickly agreed to the request.

Naysayers comparison might make sense if they only let 2,000 Waterford fans in and give them the worst area of the ground as they do in places like Glasgow. There are numerous studies on home field advantage, and the most notable aspect of it bar distance is the supporters. The issue is predominately psychological with the home team benefiting from a lift from the crowd, officials favouring the home side and local field knowledge. Off field biases are also cited such as home songs, biased encouragement etc etc etc. While one may suggest Tipp know Semple better i'd imagine Waterford will bring a huge crowd to this game.

Other factors such as sense of ownership, defending your patch etc are immeasurable but their probably is something in it. If i was a waterford fan i wouldn't be particularly bothered playing in Semple providing the fans travel in numbers. If Waterford provide 45-50% of the attendance you wouldn't know you were in Thurles if you were an ill informed onlooker.

Can the Waterford fans give us some recommendations for where is good to go for a pre or post match drink in Thurles ;)

Tipp is a bigger county also.A population of 158k,compared to Waterfords 118k.I would expect Tipp to have 60%-65% of the support.

Sure, it wouldn't really bother me. Galway/Connacht is in the West of Ireland, not the South of Japan. If we can go to Limerick, we can go to Galway.

As to whether a Leinster tie should be played in Connacht, it should be an option if the tie involves a Connacht team, why would it not? Just because Galway play in Leinster, it doesn't change the fact that the team, and supporters, come from Galway.

But all in all, the whole situation helps highlight how unsuitable the provincial system is for our main hurling championship, unfortunately.

i was the one saying killarney as a non runner so dnt c where your going there
secondly you know full well what i ment when said going through thurles
i didnt mean the bloody pitch i ment only a few miles away on main roads to get through tipp
its an expression not an exact aa route planner route for godsake man
i have done the journey from limerick to waterford and back only three weeks ago.
by your logic though tipp would have more use in gaelic grounds as they beat limerick there
the last day which of course is there home ground so surely that wiuld give them more of an advantage
by your mentality as they could beat limerick in that ground
where as waterford played in thurles and won well
played in thurles in league final and won well
common sense says waterford would rather thurles than gaelic grounds

Slayer you are spot on and furthermore if Waterford lose they will be back in Thurles in late July for the all-Ireland q/f. More familiarity. If I was from the Deise I would be delighted. Tipp in fairness often play as well outside Thurles and in terms of the venue favourable to their supporters am sure Waterford will have a big ticket allocation. All in all far more sense than bringing the event to Limerick.

No hill, you said Waterford would have to travel THROUGH THURLES and then an extra hour to get Limerick. How was anyone to know you didnt actually mean Thurles when you said it?The fact is Waterford fans wudnt have to travel within 35-40 Km of Thurles if game was in Limerick.Clonmel-Cahir-Tipperary Town--Limerick Junction-Limerick.
