Hill, forget about Killarney. It is a non runner.2 big hurling games played there in 50 years id say.A silly proposition. As for Waterford people having to travel through Thurles to get to Limerick, you obviously dont have a good grasp of geography in Munster.Waterford fans would,i imagine, travel through Clonmel,Cahir,Tipperary Town or maybe Cashel,to get to Limerick.Certainly not Thurles. If i was a Waterford man,id rather play Tipp in a neutral Limerick, than in Tipps back yard.Home advantage will not win the game for Tipp, but it is still an advantage. You are still waffling on about home advantage not being a real concept. In any sport.I think your in a tiny minority on that one. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 29/06/2015 19:27:53 1745007 Link 0 |
Thurles was the only viable option from a logistics point of view. There are parts of Waterford that are a shorter drive to Thurles than Portroe, Lorrha etc. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 29/06/2015 19:37:13 1745016 Link 0 |
Lads Thurles is more like a home ground to Waterford, they play in Thurles every year Waterford V Cork or Limerick or Clare all played in Thurles. At best Tipp get to play in Thurles maybe every second year and only for Cork being closed we would not get to play there this year. Ask anyone if you can't hurl in Thurles there is something wrong. Waterford are delighted with this game in Thurles as when was the last time they played in Limerick. therealtmo (Tipperary) - Posts: 1292 - 29/06/2015 19:48:00 1745022 Link 0 |
Killarney,Tipps players are brought up playing in Semple.Club games, intercounty etc.I know Tipp train in Thurles in Dr Morris Park, right beside Semple Stadium.Im sure Tipp will be training in Semple leading up to the game.Nobody knows every dimension of that ground as well as Tipp.It is undoubtedly a help. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 29/06/2015 19:52:57 1745025 Link 0 |
I know Cuede, I'm just having some fun with this thread just like everyone else seems to be. Waterford have two training session scheduled for Semple stadium ahead of the match, the Tipp county board very quickly agreed to the request. Naysayers comparison might make sense if they only let 2,000 Waterford fans in and give them the worst area of the ground as they do in places like Glasgow. There are numerous studies on home field advantage, and the most notable aspect of it bar distance is the supporters. The issue is predominately psychological with the home team benefiting from a lift from the crowd, officials favouring the home side and local field knowledge. Off field biases are also cited such as home songs, biased encouragement etc etc etc. While one may suggest Tipp know Semple better i'd imagine Waterford will bring a huge crowd to this game. seany16 (Dublin) - Posts: 1663 - 29/06/2015 20:08:37 1745037 Link 0 |
Can the Waterford fans give us some recommendations for where is good to go for a pre or post match drink in Thurles ;) Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 29/06/2015 20:11:40 1745040 Link 0 |
Tipp is a bigger county also.A population of 158k,compared to Waterfords 118k.I would expect Tipp to have 60%-65% of the support. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 29/06/2015 20:13:41 1745042 Link 0 |

Slayer you are spot on and furthermore if Waterford lose they will be back in Thurles in late July for the all-Ireland q/f. More familiarity. If I was from the Deise I would be delighted. Tipp in fairness often play as well outside Thurles and in terms of the venue favourable to their supporters am sure Waterford will have a big ticket allocation. All in all far more sense than bringing the event to Limerick. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1993 - 30/06/2015 09:11:54 1745154 Link 0 |

No hill, you said Waterford would have to travel THROUGH THURLES and then an extra hour to get Limerick. How was anyone to know you didnt actually mean Thurles when you said it?The fact is Waterford fans wudnt have to travel within 35-40 Km of Thurles if game was in Limerick.Clonmel-Cahir-Tipperary Town--Limerick Junction-Limerick. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 30/06/2015 10:59:02 1745224 Link 0 |
