I was wondering who is the most experienced player playing club football. Big J J Reilly Cavan Gaels would have held the recpord for a long time.

Seamus Donohoe is still playing for Lavey, came on in all 4 games this season. I think he's 39-40. Was on the Cavan U-21 team in 1988. Undoubtedly Lavey's greatest ever player.

Jody Clarke, he's come on as a sub for Shercock against both Killinkere and Knockbride this year so far. He would be tipping on 40.

Philip Caldwell for Killinkere. Don't know his age but he's definitly in his 40's, and was playing senior in the early 80's so he's well into his 40's

All these so called experienced players should pack it in and give the young lads a game. I cant understand these playing on at senior level for so long. They are only stopping some young lad from playing and this is one of the reasons why there is a drop out of players

Paddy Gaffney played for Denn well into his 50 s.

Played intermediate final @ 45 played full back.Played Division 1 all those years aswell. He could never be matched nor replaced. He use to do the full training right up to his untimely departure. He d put the young lads to shame. But for the incouragement he gave to all.
So to that person who wrote in those players should quit.Well you obviously did nt know paddy!

CountryTOOL....speaks for itself. If the young lads are good enough they'll get their game anyway.

Well said Denn Man, Paddy Gaffney was a ledgend among men. A huge loss to the Denn club and to everyone who knew him.

yea Paddy Gaffney was something else, too have played so well in an intermediate final at his age was a credit to him. I think countrytool's point is rubbish, 'taking the place of a young lad'. Everybody is complaining about the young footballers (minor u21 college) are playing too much football and being burned out. I'd say the average age of football teams has been dropping over the last 20 years. If a young player is good enough then he would take the place of the older guy. The majority of clubs have senior and reserve teams so everybody gets a game.
Gaelic football is competitive and alot of work is put in by players and management, thats why the best players available are picked.

I feel that Paddy gaffney would hold the record for the oldest player, and a true gentleman with it.

I remember Tom Traynor playing for Knockbride juniors when he must have been mid-forties. Can any of the Knockbride boys confirm what age he was when he retired?

Philip colwell is only 35 He played with killenkere in 1989 at the earliest. Martin Quinn is 36 ish. Brian doyle is 41 as is Seamus Donahoe but the daddy of them all is probably Val Yore who is 42. I think he played his first adult matches for the munchies in 1982 or 83 and played his first championship in 1985 - His brother Enda is still playing also he's 38. the munchies were always good for the oldies. John Dwyer played a championship game in 1993 aged 45. His brother gabriel is still playing B football aged 46. and Ollie stanley and Seamus Kiernan were 39 & 38 when they won the championship in 1994. I think Seamus kiernan played on until he was about 45 too. So to answer the question about the oldest person currently playing first team football - it's probably Val Yore.
