Ticketmaster just made 1.6 million for doing nothing. They'll refund the tickets but not the €4 handling fee.
That's some business acumen there

What a disaster. Have to say though, had tickets for the tues night and at this stage am quite happy to get my money back in all honestly. I'd say those that sat up all night for their tickets are pretty peeved though!

What a mess! Dublin has screwed up here!

NavynBlue, you talk about business acumen. The Irony in you statement is that TicketMaster now have more work to do that the concerts have been cancelled, not less.

oh oh oh hes got friends in lower places
if he can afford to throw away moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
to the tune of millionsssssss
what a baby he is or else the guy has more money then sense
whats his deal with five concerts or nothing sure originaly he was only supposed to have two concerts!!!
the other three nights were bonuses so he was actually getting to keep one of them bonus nights
and have 240 thousand tickets sales in his sky rocket,
and they call the gaa money grabbers
dont feel sorry for anybody who bought the tickets at all as none of the nights had been given the go ahead
when the tickets were on sale, people bought the tickets that the event was subject to licence
and the residents were always going to have big problems with this considering the trouble the gaa have been causing them
with other areas outside of concerts over the last few years.
delighted that for once in this country money didnt talk and the right and fair thing was done by the dublin city council
they put the rules and peoples needs ahead of money for buisnesses and economy.
maybe we do still have a democracy afterall

Croke Park should have been taken out to a green site outside the city when it was developed and the same with Limerick and Cork's min grounds

why so it can be used for non gaa events?
seriously no need for any of this
if aiken promotions, brookes and croke park done the right thing as soon as the original gigs sold out
and consulted the local residents and applied for licence for the concerts
there would be no problems here at all

Fair play to him for standing by what he said. He has turned down a lot of money on principle, anyone who does that deserves an amount of respect.

As for the residents, I read that there is a case pending about fraudulent complaints being submitted to the council about these concerts. Well at least one party maintained their principles...

The residents have messed up big time here. All the jobs and money that this and events like it that croke park have facilited and this is how the residents repay them.

I hope there is never another concert in Croke park and that they stop employing local people as they must be the most ungrateful people in the country.

Similarly, if the residents had done the right thing and allowed this to go ahead on the basis that it couldn't happen in future being put in writing, there wouldn't be a problem either. I don't see any innocent parties here, just two groups who couldn't act like adults and the result is the country suffers.

TheMaster,
Thats a very unfair comment, the only dishonesty in all of this has been displayed by the GAA. They gave their word and then broke it. Sympathy for people who have been left out of pocket, but there is but one dishonest party here.

rubbish and you know it!!!!
he was only supposed to have two nights
so by giving him 3 nights he was getting an extra night still
he just thaught he would bully the dublin city council to back down
and probably thaught the government would step in and get involved to get them to go ahead for money
but like anybody bluffing in poker he got his hand called and walks away empty handed

In fairness you can't really tar them all, I think a lot of residents were for the concerts, but I'd guessing that there are 1 or 2 prolific trouble makers in the area that oppose everything, unfortunately a lot of areas have these people. It's just unfortunate that these people can cost the country €50+ million and disappoint 400,000 fans, let's just hope they don't get their way too often.

Not solely the residents!! They are about 25% of the matter. What about Croke Park officials, Promoters etc etc, They are just more to blame.

its not the rest of the country that lives beside the stadium!
its not the rest of the country had the major trouble with croke park over the community centre
the problem is the guys rnning croke park dont care about the people around it as they can go back to cavan and monaghan and the likes after a days work,
there was already an agreement in place that 3 non gaa events ayear were to only take place
so the residents are at no fault here
the fact that 3 one direction gigs and an american football match had already been announced ment they were allowing
four events to go ahead as it was. now croke park pushed them too far by throwing five more events at them
come on if you cant see where they were annoyed and let down over theres something wrong here.
why does the rest of the country suffer anyway?
they get their money back for the tickets as it will be announced of how to do this tomorrow
