Longford BEAT Derry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Amazing result, Absolutely amazing and to think Derry pulled it back, You would have felt Derry would then go on to win the game, But Longford showed incredible character near the end there.

Congratulations to all involved, The shock of the championship this year so far, Remember Derry where Division 1 runners up and Longford where relegated to division 4. For them to travel up to Derry and beat them there is immense.

Im delighted for them

Where did it all go wrong for Derry ? Their fans must be sick, But lets not take away from Longford. They deserve all the praise that will come their way over the next few days.

This shows that you have to take league performances with a pinch of salt I guess. The Dublin loss probably sucked a bit of life out of Derry though after such a good league campaign. Fair play to Longford.

Fair play to Longford.

Don't know if it is a huge shock. Derry were totally overrated coming into the championship, they have only one good forward.

Excellent result for Longford but I'm genuinely not very surprised because Derry over the last few years have been a solid Div1 league team and then consistently disappoint in the championship, it's a bit bizarre but that just seems to be their way.

Teams who lose a closely fought provincial encounter to a big rival are often vulnerable to a shock loss when they go into the qualifiers. Could Down or Cavan be similarly vulnerable next weekend?

Htaem is right as well. It is not surprising Derry have lost as they form for this kind of performance. I don't think anyone will ever figure them out. They show in the League that they are well able to mix it up with a lot of teams but lack the fight for the Ulster championship and when that race is run, they lose interest altogether.

Derry also lost a few players to the States. For a Division 1 team like Derry this shouldn't be happening. I can understand players leaving the Carlow or Leitrim panels to go abroad but not Derry. If players who were starters throughout the League started packing their bags come championship, I would be very disappointed that it was allowed to happen.

Well done to Longford, third time they have put Derry out since 2006. Teams like Longford can never be taken for granted, that's for sure.

Well done Longford must have been a huge effort. It sounded like some fantastic scores were taken. I hope ye can build on this, best of luck in the next
Looks like Dublins destruction of Derry has drained the life out of their resurgence.

Two Leinster vs Ulster games this evening and two Leinster wins. A Laois victory wasn't exactly unexpected and Fermanagh made them work for it out but Longford beating Derry is a shock. I don't want to open another debate on this subject but it is a reminder that even though Dublin have dominated the Leinster championship, they are some good sides there who are well able for a lot of teams. Pat Spillane should make note of this the next time he goes on about how easy Dublin have it, would they have it any more difficult elsewhere?

As a Longford man this performance & result makes me both proud & perplexed after losing to Wexford (AGAIN) & being relegated to Division 4. It probably has saved Sheedy too. Can we follow it up now with another win?

The word from inside the Derry camp was that a lot of the players wanted to get the county season over sooner rather than later so I'm not overly surprised by this result

Listen lads I said this back in the spring time. McIvor done the same thing with Donegal. They won the national league and the lost their first two championship games I think. McIvor focuses to much on the leagues the players are training harder earlier and then they peak too soon serious flaw and this is the second team he has done it with.

It is easy to look good in the league when the other teams arent taking it as serious or training as hard.

Hats off to Longford. They have the easier side of the draw and could mount a memorable run.
