I believe the capacity is surely greater the 34,000. However I think the Munster Council needs to reflect on the numerous warnings issued to the FA prior to the Hillsborough disaster. There have been enough of close calls down there between the Cork v Tipp game in 2005 and 2008 as well as the concert there last year. Should be Cork's call and they should be allowed to play it in Cork if they want. The capacity of their venue is irrelevant. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1145 - 17/06/2014 21:21:47 1605322 Link 0 |
Fair play The Bull, that's exactly the situation. I haven't enjoyed my last 3 visits to PUC even though we won on each occasion. At least the new stadium will be something to look forward to when built. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 17/06/2014 21:58:13 1605335 Link 0 |
My view on this is that 100% the game should be played in cork, its our turn to travel to them and that should be honoured and in fairness to Limk if the match doesn't go ahead in cork it will have nothing to do with limk. From what i'm reading cork officials are saying 40.500 capacity i couldn' be sure but reckon there has been a few recent mun finals with between 30-40k so whats the big deal.I'm a gaa man and i will get tickets,i always do. someday (Limerick) - Posts: 1104 - 18/06/2014 11:02:18 1605420 Link 0 |
Or ye could come to Limerick and we will owe ye two games. Hoover78 (Limerick) - Posts: 865 - 18/06/2014 11:14:29 1605429 Link 0 |
Personally i wish the game was on in Cork as i would like to win a Munster beating Tipp in Thurles and Cork in PUC, that is how to win a Munster, Limerick might get some respect then. Hoover78 (Limerick) - Posts: 865 - 18/06/2014 11:15:35 1605430 Link 0 |

I think I may have my years mixed up here but I seem to remember back in 2001 when the Gaelic grounds was being done up we changed the Limerick Cork game to the pairc? Now granted we got it back a few years later but isn't that what would be happening again? If we get that game in Limerick played in front of 50,000 then Cork will be owed a game by Limerick? Again as I say my dates may be mixed but certain it did happen so time for Cork to return the favour. no? johno87 (Limerick) - Posts: 39 - 18/06/2014 15:38:09 1605619 Link 0 |
Johno when we played Cork in the early 00s while the Gaelic Grounds was being redeveloped the matches were in Thurles. The health and safety officer was in Pairc Ui Chaoimh today and the match will be played in Cork with the capacity being 35-40,000 depending on his report mike03 (Limerick) - Posts: 2000 - 18/06/2014 16:00:00 1605632 Link 0 |
Thurles is Corks second home so there is no reason not to play this game in Thurles. I agree people need to be accomadated and where better than Thurles, such a fine stadium. jamican (Carlow) - Posts: 7 - 18/06/2014 16:35:55 1605647 Link 0 |
I heard that the cork health and safety officer Michael Slatter, was at Páirc Uí Chaoimh today and that the capitiacy might be increased for the final if strict conditions are met, but I was also told it could be limited to 30,000. freetaker1 (Limerick) - Posts: 758 - 18/06/2014 16:54:56 1605660 Link 0 |
Cork played Limerick in Thurles in 2000 I think and then in Cork in 2001. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 18/06/2014 17:22:32 1605667 Link 0 |
Well the fact that the health and safety officer had to check it out says it all in the first place, from my own personal view Thurles is the more difficult journey , Cork would actually be easier for me travel wise. freetaker1 (Limerick) - Posts: 758 - 18/06/2014 17:31:01 1605675 Link 0 |
The only people who will miss out with the match being in Cork is those who usually buy their tickets in Centra. Club members will get a ticket no problem mike03 (Limerick) - Posts: 2000 - 18/06/2014 17:56:20 1605690 Link 0 |
Mike 03, I can tell you for sure that not all club members will get tickets. Clubs will not get enough especially young players who need to get a stand ticket. Its the Juvenile's who want tickets to the stands that will not get to see the game and that's a shame. Will Na Piarsaigh get enough tickets to allow parents to bring their children to see their hero's Dowling and Downes? The stadium is not fit to hold a game like this especially when other venue options are available. Politics V common sense. Clubgaa (Limerick) - Posts: 879 - 19/06/2014 09:21:53 1605834 Link 0 |
To think no decision has been made on the venue for the munster final at this stage is a joke. It is simple either Pairc Ui Chaoimh is capable and suitable or not to stage the game. Its not like no member of the munster council has not visited the ground. The_Bull (Cork) - Posts: 248 - 19/06/2014 11:12:57 1605909 Link 0 |
They've pretty much made the decision, it will be in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. RebelCork (Cork) - Posts: 789 - 19/06/2014 11:49:29 1605938 Link 0 |
Either Thurles and we owe ye a game or Limerick and we owe ye two. Hoover78 (Limerick) - Posts: 865 - 19/06/2014 11:49:50 1605939 Link 0 |
There is no need to develop a huge stadium in cork. munster is well catered for by thurles and limerick. lowballplease (Galway) - Posts: 935 - 19/06/2014 13:42:43 1606009 Link 0 |
