Meath v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

And that is most certainly that.. 5 of the anticipated team now out of the clash.
2 defenders
1 midfielder
2 key forwards

Very hard for anyone to say that those injuries will not have an impact.

Kildare to win and to give the Leinster final a right rattle. Have fancied Kildare to get to the Leinster final all year. Forget about what happened in the league

Very hard to see victory now. Newman is probably one of the best free takers in ccountry if not the best.
Who will take frees, bray? Carroll? Tormey?
6 of starting 15 out, it will test how strong the panel is.
It just will have to be a old style Meath performance. Bray has to turn back clock, Reilly has to rip up through center , O'Rourke I'd now put in as ff with Menton or tormy dropping into midfield. Who will stand up? That's the thing now.

When people are saying that neither of the first two games would tell us anything I think they're wrong. Certainly Ryan won't have learned a lot looking at the Carlow game but if MOD looks at the Louth game I think he'll learn a bit. How Kildare bunched for kick-outs and burst to the wings to receive the ball was a tactic we hadn't really used before. It really flummoxed Louth but Meath will now be ready. Same as the late introduction of Fogarty for O'Connor. That's the kinda stuff Meath will have been able to keep in reserve but we weren't taking any chances against Louth.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well Donnellan did the last day alright. The general consensus seemed to be that if he earned the starting spot over Connolly then it was because of his kickouts, and he delivered on that, he doesn't seem to dwell on them as much as Connolly does which really helps for the short option.

Despite midfield being one of our problem areas for the last couple of years, a makeshift pairing of Moolick and O'Neill handled Paddy Keenan pretty well. The other danger man Lennon also didn't enjoy the freedom some thought he would even though he was being picked up by an out of form Mick Foley.

The opposition didn't prove to be as good as they were made out to be, but there was certainly a few positives for us to take from the win.

As far as injuries go, well Meath find themselves in a position we're all too familiar with, can't remember the last time we had our best 15 fit and available to play. It'll be the perfect chance for some of the under 21's to step up and show what they can do.

Not excuses just a facts.
Knowing Meath it will unite them.
We are missing over half the starting line up. That's a fact.
A lot will now come down to McMahon and tormy having huge games ( both are very talented) but its a big ask first time in Croke park. The old heads of bray O'Rourke ×2 Reilly ×2 will have to lead by example and help the young lads as much as possible . the fact we are missing such a fantastic free taker with no obvious replacement is a huge worry and will mean Kildare may be more inclined to foul Reilly and McMahon when they run with knowledge it mightn't be pointed also adds to worry.
But we can still win. And I'll go further and say this. WE WILL WIN
Hon the Royal.

RoyalDunne,

Would you consider Shane O'Rourke and old head or experienced player considering he only plays about twice a year anyway?

Clondalkin Dub,

Let him off. 90% of the MEath have this attitude before every game anyway. Still think they are a force and all that kinda nonsense.

Makes the feeling better when you bate them.

Kildare without ogrady, eoin doyle, paul cribbin, d mulhall, p kelly, against louth, 5 certain starters all of whom may still be out for this week end

We will win IMO. Not for any other reason than we just have the better attitude . the injuries are a blow yes but there is strength in the panel. Lenihane or mcdonagh are now going to get the chance to deliver. McMahon and in particular tormey are two great finds. Graham Reilly and Bray must up their game if they do then yes I see a win.
Also Shane O'Rourke has been around since mid last decadeor so. Yeah he had tterrible injuries and was told he wouldn't play football again. Reminds me of another player told same thing with knee , he fairly destroyed Kildare teams and Dublin ones too. Now who was that? Chip off the old block is Shane

North Kildare,

I wouldn't say that.

O'grady, Doyle and Kelly have been out for a while. I think, even if fit, they probably won't be started. With the exception of Kelly in for Foley of course.

Colm O'Rourke had done well before he was injured though. Shane O'Rourke would not have a great record against Kildare or Dublin before or after injury.

I didn't know hoganstand was a place where you couldn't say your county will win? I must have missed that.
Newman is shocking loss. But we get on with it like we have before and will do so in future.
I still see it as a evenly matched game. Meath now been underdogs will help them. They never play well when expected to win.
Anyway while I'm not as optimistic as RD I think we still may sneak a victory and what would that do going into final.
No wonder the jackeens don't want meath to win.

Its an attitude that Meath will always have and its hard to listen to sometimes but it also is also a part of what makes them win when they have a chance. The last time we were beaten by Meath it was a disaster waiting to happen, I hope the kildare camp is better prepared this year coz if they are not like any Meath team they only need a little encouragement to take advantage.
I will not be surprised if Kildare win and looking at the qualifier set up a defeat for either team is very bad news.
Kildare by 5.
