Meath v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Double hop. Well maybe I should clarify. I was mainly referring to the likes of galway underage success that just doesn't seem to be getting through. I'm also aware which others might not be from outside Meath that we only had one u21 success in 90s now OK lots of that team geraghty Giles etc went on to prove they could do it at senior level. But it's the old cliche of underage doesn't mean senior will follow.
Richieq one other who's gone is Chris O'Connor and wasn't ford a sub that day in 12 ??
Anyway both counties have changed plenty since that day. What I was mainly referring to is when people say kildare have measure of Meath upto that day, very few of the team would be playing from those previous encounters and those that will, off top of my head g Reilly k Reilly keoghan Meade Menton Burke all were on the 12 victory, I guess what I was pointing out is that there will be no monkeys on the back scenarios as some were pointing out.
I see it as very evenly matched with Kildare slight fav due to Louth game. However I would caution to say that Meath were not overly impressive against Carlow and there is room for improvements in many a sector, IF that happens I can see Meath winning by a couple, but that's all.

Yep I agree royaldunne, with everything except the last bit, since I've started my pessimistic streak after the Armagh match we haven't lost a competitive game so to keep with form my prediction is Kildare by 6 pulling up in the last 10 mins ;-)

Ah in fairness it is a tight game on paper, both sets of supporters will feel reasonably confident so it should make for an exciting game, the only real difference will simply be who performs better on the day and unfortunately I'm not clairvoyant so I haven't a clue who that's going to be.

.....but Kildare to win handy enough of course.

Ye it should be an interesting game, it'd be also interesting to see does either Meath or Kildare have the credentials to push their way into the chasing pack because let's face it there aren't too many overly impressive teams in Ireland other than Dublin.

Donegal and Monaghan are the only other teams to really impress so far in the championship and they came from Div2, Mayo have been steady while Cork, Kerry, Tyrone and Derry have all disappointed so far (especially Derry). So the winners of Kildare and Meath shouldn't view themselves as too far behind the chasing pack and a good win for either will do them no harm at all before the Leinster final.

Ah Richie get off your soap box will you, the sly digs you throw all the time about the Dubs or their supporters is nauseating at this stage. You never let an opportunity go by you to have a smart comment about us.

There will be plenty of Dubs in to watch that game at some stage in the proceedings.

I think a lot will shout for Kildare but some will definitely not want the Lillies to win.

I actually think that micko has yet to arrive on the big stage. It has been stop and start for his tenure so far. This is his chance to say he has arrived. If we don't win in tight game and go onto have good campaign then all will remain happy, however a big defeat followed by early exit then he will face questions and rightly so.
Buti think we will win and with a bit to spare.

I think you're right, MOD has steadied the ship after the disastrous Banty era so it would be nice if we could push on from that this year, promotion was missed which was disappointing but a good championship would make up for that. I hope you're right in saying that we'll get past Kildare but even losing to them wouldn't be the end of the world provided we make the last 8, anything short of that will be disappointing though.

Still regardless of what happens this year I'd give MOD another year or 2 because we've had no stability since Boylan retired in 2005 and it's gotten us nowhere.

Spot on Htaem.

MOD has definitely steadied your ship and it would be madness to change coach even if Meath don't do too well this season.

Another Leinster Final appearance would be a bonus though.

Ye will get promoted next year imo and some of your U21's will be drafted in to improve ye even further.

It is a far cry from the wreckage a few years ago with the constant changes and bickering in house.

Oh grow up and take a joke will you, if your that thin skinned maybe you should find a new forum to trot about, I have plenty of Dubs who are friends and know when tongue is firmly planted in cheek and vice versa, I'm not having a dig at all and personally couldn't care less what way the Dubs shout just as the Dubs won't give a curse how Meath or Kildare supporters shout in their match

I think winning Leinster should be our next target Fionn, a hige task given Dublin's current talent but we're starting to get used to Leinster finals again making 3 of the last 4, which is nice considering between 01-10 we made none, infact between 04-10 we couldn't even make a Leinster semi which was very depressing!

There's no question we should stick with MOD though certainly for another year and probably 2 more, we could review things after that.

I think ye will.

I also reckon there will be a big crowd for this double header.
