Meath v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Let's be honest its the game both counties were thinking about since November.
No pointers as both had facile win in quarters.
Since the saga of games this rivalry has taken on a new dimension.
So bring them on.
Hon the Royal.

Looking forward to this game in croke park. Really should be the 2nd game on in croke park on the 29th as It is likely to be the most competitive game of the 2 semi's.

I was in early to catch the Kildare and Louth match have to say I was surprised how good Kildare were, I have been reading that Jason ryan had ordered certain players to drop a few KG in muscle as they were too big and not mobile enough for croke park.

If they get mulhall back I fancy Kildare to win this by 3 to 4 pts.

We've better players 1 to 15 and by far the better squad. Could count on one hand the amount of times they've been us at any level over the last decade. Even with McGeanny we beat them 7 times out of 8 and he didn't really know what he was doing. A good man now in charge so be surprised if Meath got within 6 points of us.

Kildare look a far superior outfit, be very surprised if they don't send the royal packing!

I'm going out to Marley Park for the Aracade Fire/Pixies concert straight after the game. This could be the greatest day ever if we win.

Kildare v Meath. Bring it on. I might venture up if im not too hungover from the Louth and Tyrone match. Kildare for me but you cant write off the Royals.

I can see this been very close. I think we may have the stronger bench and that might swing it for us in the end by a couple of points.

Bottom line is this, both teams are going into this fixture as if it's a first round game, both Louth & Carlow (Louth suprisingly) were very poor opposition and reading into the performances of both Kildare and Meath based on what they have played so far is pure folly. Kildare were relegated from Division 1, albeit they were probably unlucky not to get a few more points on the board, and Meath just missed out on promotion to Divsion 1 despite a couple of horror shows, both teams are very close from an ability and performance point of view and this game will be very hard to call, I am hoping however that the availability of Menton & Harrington will strengthen our hand and the experiences and progress of last year will stand to us so I take us to win by 2 or 3 but that comes with a considerable health warning, those are the facts......

Kildarw not in great shakes.. young team but nothing special about them

I cant see Meath winning with the loss of the likes of Gillespie, Wallace, Dalton and potentially others like Harrington, Menton and O Sullivan who lit up the league.

I will go with kildare on this one but if meath had 2-3 of the abent fellas above I would have expected a ding dong battle.

it is a game of who will be the bridesmaids of Leinster anyway

Every team has injuries.Cant do anything about it so forget about it and concentrate on who ye do have.I dont see any reason why Meath cant beat Kildare.

And to think a lot of people fancied Louth to reach the semi and not us.

Hardly surprising, I mean we had, and still have, some important players missing through injury, a team mostly made up of young players just out of under 21, a load of over-hyped gym monkeys (I think the term "talentless" should be in there too), no Johnny Doyle and a manager who's only in his first year in charge.

Meath are Meath.

Sure all they have to do is pretend it's the late 80's or late 90's all over again and act like Sean Boylan is back in charge.

Obviously they'll fancy their chances of beating Dublin this year and they know goals are the way to do it.

Donal Keogan, Young Player of the Year in 2012 apparently.

Graham Reilly, robbed of about three or four All Stars by now I believe.

The fact we've beaten them something like seven times out of the last eight; O'Byrne Cup, championship, league, qualifiers, home and away or whatever, doesn't matter a bit of course.

I think it'd be best if I book a trip away for two weekends time, may as well save myself the disappointment...

Kildare are favorites for sure in this one.

I see the bookies have both teams at evens so maybe we should all stop pretending one side or the other are clear favourites. Meath were much more impressive in the championship last year and beat us well the last time we met in serious competition. Kildare have more strength in-depth and a more impressive underage pedigree. Whatever happens it's going to be decided by some thin margins.

The hope in Kildare is that we've a bench who can push on and keep the pace up, similar to Dublin but of course in comparison to them, completely unproven. We were able to bring on O'Flaherty, O'Connor and Smith the last day which is great. You'd feel if we win it that'll be why.

It was interesting to watch Meath concentrate on goals yesterday, which is obviously a strategy they have developed to challenge Dublin in the Leinster final.

Kildare are a team in transition. Jason Ryan has done really well on strength and conditioning, in terms of less pumping weights and more speed and fitness, and he has introduced a coherent tactical element to our play, but, this game is beyond our capabilities at the moment.

Kildare to put up a reasonable challenge to the Royals, but Meath's goals to win out the day.

Meath by 5 points.
