Clare v Cork

I thought ref was very good today, great win for Cork but feel Clare have more to come they looked like a team with more work to do with it being geared towards September. Cork were very good at stages, I think the all Ireland will come down to Cork Clare or KK two of them three will make final.

Yes the ref was picky on Clare but the best team won. Well done Cork, ye played well for 70 minutes this time.

Absolutely pathetic analysis lad. You are just waiting - win, lose or draw - to stick the boot into Cork. All of your posts about Cork are just side swipes. You can't be taken seriously if you are not capable of being impartial. Get a life lad- seriously!

There were some harsh calls on Clare. However, Cork could have got a few other frees that were not given as well. Just analysing want happened today (not what happened last year and not saying who is the better team), Cork were faster to the ball, we were a lot sharper and Clare fouled a lot. What summed up Clare for me today was Donal Touhy's foul on Alan Cadogan, regardless of what else happened, that was a stupid rush of blood to the head when he should have been driving the ball down the field rather than giving Patrick Horgan (a player who he had dispossesed seconds earlier and let him on the flat of his arse) the chance to tap the ball over from 15 yards. Clare gave Cork that score. When they look at the video next week, they will be looking at their own performance rather than the referee's.

I think Clare are a fantastic side. I think when we see the real Tony Kelly, Podge Collins etc we will have a different Clare. Their last competitive game was weeks ago and they were off the pace. That is all. They are still favourites for the All-Ireland in my mind. They are still the best team in the country. However, today Cork were the best the team and their win had nothing to do with the referee. Everyone from Clare, including Davy Fitz, have admitted as such. The only ones that see it differently are Dubs (well just one Dub) with a pre built bitterness.

Very good win for Cork, they will fancy their chances of giving the old Pairc a fond farewell against Limerick, as will the footballers presuming they reach the Munster Final, but Limerick will be full of confidence after the Tipp game, a fantastic battle awaits.....

Just back, analysis can be done later. Can anyone say what happened near the Clare bench at the start of the second half ? Someone banished to the stands ? It resulted in many standing up and blocking views in the old stand for a few minutes of the game.

Very disappointing game. I was really looking forward to this based on the games so far this year and the 2 great AI finals we saw between these two teams last year.

But I have to say the referee ruined this game for me.

In the first half there were so many very soft and costly (given the position they were awarded in) frees given to Cork which I simply couldn't believe. One of these led to a goal and from that point onwards the game was essentially over as a contest as Clare never got closer than 3 points after that.Up to that point the game was fairly close even though I thought that whenever Clare looked like getting ahead Cork were awarded the inevitable free to keep them on par.

It must be on page 756 of the GAA rule book that Cork will be awarded a Liam McCarthy every decade ... NO MATTER WHAT.

They got very favourable treatment last year vs Dubs and again in the 2 AI Finals ... and it seems we are off again this year.

Anyway, rant over, good luck to both teams for the rest of the year and I hope for a better balance in refereeing decisions for the coming year than we saw (especially in the first half) in this game.

Cork by far the better team. Clare were very disappointing. Cork did seem to get a lot of softish frees but at the same time Clare backs were doing a lot of stupid fouling. There was a terrible call against Bugler though in the second half where he stood his ground, the Cork lad barged into his chest, and the free went against Bugler! Clare weren't getting any of those calls.

Cork played great all over the field Walsh is a big addition great at winning ball.Clare will be a much better team after a few competitive matches but I'm very happy with the way cork are making progress in every match.

A couple of fellow Dubs on here very bitter about Corks perceived favouritism from referees.Cant say i agree. The only issue ive had with Cork has been the Nash penalty.Whether Nash was from Tipp,Kilkenny or Dublin itself my view wouldnt have wavered on that.Well deserved win today.Far better team.Horgans 2 goals, especially the penalty were bullets.Have to say i was disappointed in Clare. My new revised favourites for All Ireland are now Kilkenny ,Cork and then Clare.

Not bitter at all I actually like Cork but the ref today was completely one sided.

Don't think the ref had much bearing on that game, Clare where off the pace and couldn't get that passing game going at all. Cork sharper, always first to ball, hungry and well up for it, a soft penalty but Clare never looked like winning this.

Right of Clare at your peril, Davys from the old school of Loughnane and hes cute enough to know that Munster isnt the be all and end all, hell use this as great fuel to rise the boys "the whole countys laughin at ye" Cork are laughin at ye" "are ye plastic champions" Loughnane often talked about how he found it hard to rise his Clare team in the 90s if they had no "agenda" for want of a better word i.e Cork in the 90s i remember Anthony Daly saying that they found it hard to get up for Cork as they had no real gripe with them nor had they been beaten like they had by Tipp etc. This Clare team has been celebrated up and down the country all winter and there were question marks over hunger as there usually is after an all ireland win,and I think this has what Davy will not have been looking for but will certainly use this defeat as bait for his players. Davy was very animated early on but when the game was going away from them he remained very quiet, in a way knowing that it wasnt ther day and they would be back, Tony Kelly, Podge, Colin Ryan will be berated at the next training and probably until the next game, these guys will have serious fire in the belly by then. Davy said how last years defeat to Cork in Munster was the turning point and i see the same thing again this year, all throigh last year he talked about media writing them off and everyone against Clare type of thing exactly like Loughnane used to. Hell be telling the players how they will have to beat the ref aswell after so many soft frees yesterday. In all although i thought Cork were very good at stiffling Clares players an totally deserved the win by even more than the scoreline shows, alot of improvement to come from both teams will be interesting to see later in the year!!

Soft or hard fouls, both are fouls and lead to frees. Clare are not very physical but they do foul persistently and have done so under Davy. It's his tactic to protect the goal and refs would appear to be on to it, finally. I guess it goes with the territory. Davy can have no complaints as that's the way he has his team playing. Cork were physical yesterday and it's no harm to see real hurling winning out. Mind you we still had a few incidents if diving which went largely unnoticed due to Corks superiority. Hope the refs start dealing with diving in future games.

Very deserved win for Cork , felt like one winner all day , never saw the best of clare as an attacking threat , Cork very much up for it , very sharp , for me like last years all ireland this game will have little bearing if they meet later in year , both will be tough to beat next time out .

Cork were decent yesterday and deserved their win but there's something about this team that remains unconvincing.

I think they'll need to up it again for the next games as they won't meet a ref (or defence) as generous with the frees again this year.

Cork clearly benefited from their 2 games with Waterford while Clare were idle.It highlights a flaw in the championship ie teams don't start at the same time or play the same amount of games.I thought the ref was poor and Clare suffered more as a result than Cork. That said Cork were the better side on the day and deserved to win.Not a great day for Davy & his sideline team, they made a few strange decisions.
Where was Davy at the start of the 2nd half?
Walsh a great addition to Cork and Horgan is a superb striker of the sliothar makes you wonder why Cork bothered with Nash taking pens and 21 yard frees .

I agree that Davy didn't have a great day on the sideline.

Honan gave them a different option inside but he was on too late.

I for one believe there are 6/7 teams that are much of a muchness and I think we could have a surprise this year again. If we don't win it I would like to see Dublin or the Galway lads get one. Silly me I forgot we are just a stepping stone for Cork so we have no chance.

I was hoping for Cork yesterday but changed my mind at half time. Overall its no harm that Clare were beaten, but The ref was very unfair. You cant touch Cork players or its a free. They got so many soft frees. 2 12 scored not to mention all the other frees they got. Clare should have been awarded frees and I was surprised they were not awarded.

The refs were on Cork side last year aswell against Clare,Kilkenny, and Dublin.

All the best to Cork but I just hope if Galway meet Cork that this ref is not in charge.
