Pre-match brawl

In my opinion Paul Grimley comes out of this with a huge amount of credit. When the row eventually ended both teams were still trying to line up behind the same flag. Grimley physically moved his players away from the situation into the other line.
The Cavan players looked very pleased with themselves especially the number 4 more or less taunting the Armagh players as they backed away.
Having seen this I'm delighted for Grimley. He displayed a calm head in a difficult situation.

heh I aint throwing all the blame on Armagh - cavan were involved in it too but my point is that some posters were saying this was much ado about nothing. It cant be nothing if players are getting hurt before a ball is even thrown in.
And of course cavan were affected Cavan may have got off to a better start but games are 70 mins...Cavan obviously missed Dunne for the 70 mins!

As for not a word about this if it was between Cork/Kerry or Dublin. Time to get a grip there has been plenty of furore about Paul galvin/Kerry in the past etc
I openly admit if this was kerry involved in crap like this they would get pillored within kerry and rightly so

I agree. I criticised him massively last year but he conducted himself very well yesterday and emerged with great credit.

Haha this is unbelievable! And people complain about the standard of refereeing these days!! Your man nearly decapitated after the throw in and not even a hint of a free!! Then Joe Dillon takes an elbow in the ribs, then one in the face and then takes a slap in the face.. What is his reward... A free against him for overcarrying of course!!

What is the commentator saying when the ball is being thrown up?? After he says 'to throw in the ball" and before he says "Joe Dillon goes up"?? Played it a few times now and still sounds like a pure gibberish!!

Grimley is a class act when it comes to such situations, his post match response after losing to Gaillimh last year was a demonstration in how to face defeat with dignity

Armagh given a fine and Brendan Donaghy, Kieran Toner and Andy Mallon suspended for the next match. IMO a shocking decision only one I can see a case for being suspended is Andy Mallon. I'm really struggling to see where Kieran Toner got his suspension. He had a lad in a headlock but so did Ciaran McKeever and others so how did they come off scott free?

I would imagine Murray, Shields and Harold will fill the gap for the next game. Donaghy is a huge loss and I just can't see us getting past Tyrone or Monaghan now.

Cavan given the same fine with two players suspended despite them being the initial aggressors. Armagh have came out of this very harshly. On appeal Toner and Donaghy should be allowed to play, they did nothing worse then the other players and have been unfairly targeted.

Even for Andy Mallon. Look at the above footage. The Cavan GK brings him to the ground yet he gets off. What was Andy Mallon supposed to do? not defend himself?

No idea how certain players got off for kicking Jamie Clarke on the ground which was the worse incident to take place.

It really annoys me how unfair this is on Armagh. Cavan were clearly the instigators as shown in the footage above. You can also see the Armagh flag carrier right beside the Cavan one ready to swap positions.

Yet Cavan have less men suspended who get to serve this against Westmeath (no disrespect to Westmeath) while we are missing three Senior players for our biggest game in 3 years in a Ulster semi-final against Monaghan or Tyrone.

Paul Grimley is a gentleman and with his time with Monaghan he showed it many times...how the hell does dunne only get a one match ban? will he not be injured anyway!

Personally I think its a disgrace that they have got so little suspensions, county teams always get away lightly when such things happen!
Club teams always get screwed over, always get big suspensions and fines. The eyes of the country are on inter-county games, players go-out and behave they way they did and get away with it. Armagh have already said they will be appealing the decision and I am nearly 100% sure they will get off!
GAA is all about inter-county football!

I see Martin Dunne is down for suspension.

So much for him being "targetted".

No problem whatsoever with Martin Dunnes proposed ban....he punched and got caught. But why is McKeever not banned? His headlock on Cavans 7 was dangerous.

oh jaysus there will be men crying in cavan tonight after hearing they got fined 5000euro!!seen 2 of them trying to argue over the price the ulster council was charging for the game at the turnstile even though they had bought their ticket! id say they would be have been happier to get 5 men banned than have to pay this money! as i seen on another forum they will probly have to dip into their communion money to pay this

One match bans and the majority involved getting away scott free after something like this are an absolute joke. It makes it worthwhile to have a go and risk such minimal punishment if any.

How do you say when one headlock becomes more dangerous than another??? Surely a headlock is headlock and all headlocks are equal of the same suspension.
Thats like saying that one player should get off lighter than the other if he can't punch as hard as him

With headlocks they can also be a way to restrain though so don't think headlocks should be punished. The fan that swung at the Cavan player should get a ban, should have kept his arse on his seat and hands to himself.
