You should start supporting Carlow. Cheaper tickets, can sit on the half way line or the 21. Little queues for shops, toilets etc.

02/06/2014 09:33:04 hurlinortoggin I went to Semple Stadium yesterday to support Tipperary. I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately I left the stadium with a sour taste in my mouth and I won't be returning in a hurry. Firstly the tickets, 30 euro is a bit steep in my opinion,I bought two tickets for the covered stand, At most large sporting events or even the cinema you can now choose exactly which seats you wish to buy at the ticket office or online, with the Gaa of course it is a total lottery. So our seats were rubbish, in the covered stand practically sitting in line with the end line. I have never felt so cramped or claustrophobic. Knees in my back for the full 70 mins. There was also a lot of confusion over the unclear seat row markings which nearly led to a punch up near us. Half time rolls around and its painfully slow getting out to the shop. There is no queuing system at the shop so its a free for all with everyone pushing and shoving. The PA speaker system at the stadium also needs to be upgraded. I couldn't understand a word that was being said and anyone sitting around me had the same complaint. The sound quality/ clarity is laughable. All in all it was an uncomfortable visit and I couldn't wait to get out of the place.Don't think €30 for a Munster championship game is steep at all. Its championship game and big game. In older stadiums yes there still is open seating but that isn't a real issue. Its an old stadium so seats will be much more cramped than newer stadiums but unless money goes in it wont change. About queues to shops at halftime. Don't queue at halftime. Leave a few minutes(2/3) before halftime and you will have much smaller queues. Queueing system isn't great but unless stadium management put in a system(barriers or leave a steward to maintain lines/queues) then nothing will change. PA system will cost money and perhaps the money is going to pitch matters and to teams and games instead of pa??? 02/06/2014 10:27:29 GreenandRed There is no queuing system at the shop so its a free for all with everyone pushing and shoving. Is this a windup, seriously ? It!s a GAA match. If you're not fast your last. Get out of your seat a couple of minutes before halftime while still keeping an eye on play. Make sure your at the stand exit, still watching the play, when the ref blows the halftime whistle, then you're first out to the jacks, the shop, the bar, for a smoke or whatever. Asking for a queuing system at a match is like asking for a queuing system in the pub. It won't happen and besides the banter queuing for stuff at the match is mighty. It is a GAA match but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a properly managed queue at the stadium shop which is the exact same as any other shop in the world.

02/06/2014 11:23:43 valley84 GreenandRed - if you were ever at a decent stadium around the world, they all having queuing system for food/beer/shop etc +1. 02/06/2014 15:27:50 Soma I like the idea that ticket prices should be reduced and stadiums should be upgraded - politicians might be able to make such promises but anyone who lives in the real world knows that such a situation is unlikely. Anyone who gets served 70 minutes of entertainment like that yesterday for €30 and decides they wont be going again because, among other things, there was no proper queing system for the Taytos, well I just don't know what to say really. How does that make sense? reduce ticket prices(significant income source for GAA) and then expect the GAA to get the cash to upgrade stadiums. visitor experience at games is big part of people deciding to go to a venue again and if queues are bad for food etc then it may turn people off.

02/06/2014 16:18:28 RoyalBadger Irish people refuse to demand a decent stadium infrastructure. In fact EVERY new stadium that is proposed is instantly written off as a white elephant and a waste of money. I even remember some people opposed to Lansdowne being redeveloped. Until we start demanding better stadiums we will continue to have to suffer this nonsense. Personally I'm sick of getting soaked in uncovered terraces, getting a sore hole from wooden seats and a sore back from backless concrete benches. With awful toilets and no traffic management plan. 'Ah but shure the ol ground is grand as it tis' +1 02/06/2014 17:11:58 JayP Lack of infrastructure in all regional grounds. Portlaoise has poor access and little parking. Thurles is very similar. The calls for Dublin out of Croke Park are valid. But no ground outside Croke Park could cater for the Dublin bandwagon. The initial poster has a point, if you are paying top dollar for tickets, a decent seat and decent infrastructure should be a minimum standard. Portlaoise has better access than Thurles and better parking from any experience I have of game. Any ground in another city bar Pairc ui chaoimh(location) could comfortably cater for dubs.. Ensuring people used public transport all make things easier....
02/06/2014 17:17:46 hill16no1man It was 15 euro into limerick v Tripp in the football the night before ,yet it was 30 euro into the hurling equivalent the next day, seems very expensive considering you have a double header of Leinster SFC games in croker this Sunday and its 25 euro into stand and 15 euro the hill. 5 euro cheaper despite the big difference in the quality of seats
02/06/2014 17:25:27 hurlinortoggin MARLON_JD my first time seated in Semple ya. Spent my youth drinking and smoking in the terrace but this time I wanted to have a good view of the game and I couldn't face the terrace sober having to listen to the same 3 Tipp songs being sang over and over so I said I'd chance the stand. Hopefully SKY will end up pumping a lot of money into the sport and standards will improve.

Jay P with all due respect that argument doesn't hold up at all. First of all we're talking about the Dublin bandwagon for a Leinster first round not an all ireland quarter final. Dublin v Westmeath and Kildare v Offaly had 33k at it last year. That's not exactly a massive bandwagon at that stage of the championship. For a first round match down in portlaoise it would be even less. Anyway Portlaoise could hold 25k max no matter what the bandwagon is so lets say that's the number.
Thurles a smaller town than portlaoise and with no better transport links held a match with 25k at the weekend. It has often held matches close o 50k. Clones has regularly held matches between 20-38k over the years and yes it's not great traffic wise but it still goes ahead and life goes on.

If you hang out in Tuam Stadium for a nice wet afternoon you will change yer minds about Thurles real fast. Also boycott nasty and expensive snacks, I always bring a banana and a packet of silvermints.

JayP, towns like Clones and Thurles can host matches between 38-50k. So I don't buy this Portlaoise can't take 25k. Dubs waiting an hour in traffic after is not a valid reason. Over the years I often had to wait longer getting out of Dublin after a big match.

its not dublin people saying his its the gaa and leinster council have stated this also the fact that only two delegates at this years leinster council meeting voted for dublin to play championship outside croke park would prove the facts must have been clear

This can't be for real, what right thinking Tipp man goes to a match and doesn't bring the ham sandwiches wrapped in the bacofoil and a bottle of finches to wash it down?

Poor access? It's about a halfmile from the motorway that serves the east of the country and all counties down the M7 & M8 ffs. Parking is troublesome but most county grounds have that anyway. Parnell Park aint exactly the shining light of county grounds....small, no parking and difficult to access.

yeah seems like they are gauging the demand and setting the prices accordingly. cant blame them for that in fairness, but semple is a disgrace for the so called home of hurling.
should have had a portlaoise style makeover years ago, strange that it didn't - don't forget all the dosh they made in the 90's running the fèiles. I wonder "where" that went???
