Armagh v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Has either of these teams a realistic chance of winning Ulster? How do you see this one going? Armagh will be hurting from the beating we gave them last year, add in their relegation from division 2 and they will have a point to prove.

I see a Cavan win her Ned. Then again this being the Ulster championship Armagh could put their league form aside just like Louth did and put it up to Cavan.

Could go either way. It's hard to tell from an Armagh perspective with the amount of injuries we are carrying what our team will be. Realistically though I don't think either team will challenge for Ulster this year. Though Cavan's time will be probably come in the next few years if they keep up their rate of development.

I taught a few weeks back that Cavan could be the dark horses for Ulster, now I'm not to sure, when you see player's of the class of Brady and Flannagan heading to the states for the summer, for me it shows a lack of commitment from the squad, plus I'm led to believe that your keeper is not doing much training with the panel due to work commitments.
So for me it's Armagh by 2

Predicted Armagh to win from the draw was made and won't change my mind. Don't look good boys going away before the team even plays a game. Would have thought they would have stayed if they thought they had any chance to win Ulster. Armagh for me and PP betting ::::Armagh Favs. But in saying all that whoever wins could still make the Ulster final. Both teams are well capable of beating Monaghan or even Tyrone but the chances are small. But don't forget the upcoming game between Ty vMn will take a lot out of both teams and Tyrone will have played at least 3 games by Semi final time. Tough side of the draw.

Cavan looked good earlier this year, I wouldnt worry too much about players leaving the panel, it happened us and key men too. So Cavan will win this if Dunne finds his form from last year.

Armagh sliding downhill for sometime now and it will take some major surgery to turn them into contenders , Cavan going in the opposite direction , on paper Cavan for me . Martin Dunne one of the best forwards around at the moment .

Damo with that analysis you could get a job on the Sunday Game. Armagh have went backwards since 2008 but despite relegation the corner is in sight. If they get any kind of run it will help for a year or two down the line. Have suffered major injuries this year but will have 3 or 4 back for the championship. The game will probably be close with either team putting it up to Monaghan or Tyrone in the semi final. I do not even think Cavan people thing Dunne is one of the best forwards in the country. He cannot play Armagh every week! He is a good player though.

I feel for Cavan to win they need to get a hold of midfield and get quick ball to Dunne and Keating who will not get it all there own way this time. Armagh need big games from Rafferty and Dyas in particular.

I think we can dominate midfield because we have big Gearoid back who missed this fixture last year and we lost out at midfield big time. He's worth a few points from midfield too. Clarke is a big loss, but we have strength in depth to deal with it. A lot will come down to how Armagh handle Mackey.

I was summarising , keep the big analysis for the big games , on Dunne I think he's a smashing player that would fit into any of the top sides , as for the corner in sight well lets wait and see I wouldnt have you in the top four teams in Ulster , thats been a mighty fall , but hey if you turn that corner and Id expect you to know more than me well best of luck to you,s .

I really think that Cavan now need to start showing up at senior level, they have dominated the U21 grade in Ulster for the past 4/5 years lets see if that can translate into senior success, starting with the Armagh game. I think they'll beat Armagh handy enough but how they deal with Monaghan/Tyrone will answer a few more questions. Cavan by 4.

I would like to see Cavan progress but this is very dangerous territory for them,Armagh have serious motivation after losing to Cavan last year,Their at home and are being completely written off by everyone.Nothing expected from Armagh All the pressure is on Cavan.

Cavan might not win an Ulster senior football championship in the next 5-10 years. Sure they have had huge Ulster success at U21, but failed to kick on and win an All Ireland on those attempts.
Part of the problem has been the lack of talented older players, and the lack of quality attacking players. Cavan are excellent in defensively, and have a strong running game. Senior success is better bult upon layers of underage teams.

Look at Donegal's age profile ( Ulster most successful team in the last 3 or 4 years ), they have essentially 4 groups of players.
18-21 - Paddy McBrearty, Darrach O'Connor, Ryan McHugh, Hugh McFadden, Martin O'Reilly.
22-25 - Michael Murphy, Leo McLoone, Brick Molloy, Mark McHugh, Martin McElhinney, Paddy McGrath, Declan Walsh, Luke Keaney.
26-29 - Karl Lacey, Frank McGlynn, Christy Toye, Anthony Thompson, Neil McGee, Neil Gallagher.
30-32 - Rory Kavanagh, Colm McFadden, Eamon McGee.

McGuinness puts a strong emphasis on Introducing young players gradually over time, which leads to a seamless trasition. Mickey Harte failed to do that after 2008, and this has caused problems for Tyrone since then. Only last season did he start the process, and it takes time.

Cavan are favourites to beat Armagh, but I have a feeling Armagh might sneak this one. I attended a couple of Armagh games this season, and I they have players who can score plenty and are not a bad side overall. They were in a very strong Division 2, and that will stand to them.

He was injured recently, but I believe he made an appearance in the all stars game the other night.

Quiet build-up to this game, very little hype in the county, which might be no harm. Hopefully we get through this game, then Tyrone and Monaghan knock forty shades of you-know-what out of each other and we take down the winner!
