The Gate Keeper
People forget how magical a player Joseph was http://youtu.be/MoAdjKvP4Po?t=1m21s
Yes Anthony Tohill was a formidable presence. I would paint Joseph in the same light as Mr Mulligan, a character that every county needs but was an inferior football when compared to someone like Peter Canavan.

Try hitting the mute button then when he speaks!
No good, Brolly is that bloody dull and boring that the mute button doesn't even work when he's speaking!

I think posters are losing the run of themselves here with all the PC and Anti Sexism stuff... Some are taking it way too seriously imo. Time to chill. I am sure Joe meant no offence to anyone. Just Joe being Joe for the publicity, and by God is he getting plenty of publicity..
RTE are gonna be left in the half-penny place anyway when the Sky coverage gets going... GAA coverage needs freshening up and I think SKY could be a breath of fresh air.

This Sky thing was always going to be a controversial issue from the word go, and this thing about what Joe said is being blown up out of all proportions. All he was doing was making a comparision, as in, - -
The beach babe, he was referring to was possibly Pamela Anderson, although there were others, was a life guard on some beach or other in a TV series. Ms Wyse is a sports presenter for sky TV that will be televising and reporting on some gaa games.
So technically speaking he got it wrong as they both do totally different jobs, albeit on tv. Talking about Political correctness/incorrectness it's gone mad.
A Wyse man said to me one time, he would prefer to be "correct/incorrect" than be "Politically/Incorrect.
- - - Carry on Joe, regardless.

Thats the statement right there that gives carte blanche to the likes of Brolly to be able to continue generally winding up and throwing personal insults under the guise of "just a bit of craic"! Whether he meant it or not, he put it out there on a social media forum used by millions, the inference was clear as far as I was concerned, this girl has simply got the gig as a result of her looks. If he wanted to attack Sky then attack Sky, if he wanted to attack Sean Cavanagh the footballer then do so and not attack Sean Cavanagh the man. He crosses the line time and time again and people just waive it away with a shrug and a "sure thats just Joe" and "sure didn't he apologise afterwards", too late afterwards, its like I said, already out there, be it on Twitter or Youtube, and once its there it cannot be retracted.

1591739 As a father of daughters. I find his comments not only distasteful but disgusting. In my opinion Rachel is ten times the pundit that he is, women have to put up with this **** in every aspect of their work. Now brolly obviously suffers from SMALL man syndrome, and really is only desperately trying to keep his job, that hopefully rte will limit from now on. If anything it proves that the gaa were right to sign up with sky, with guys like this on our great free (€160) to air gaa station.
----- Ah for the love of God. It's time that the Charlie Churches and Ivana Baciks gave it a rest. All he was saying is that Sky were trying to make their coverage sexy. Look that's a compliment to Wyse and in the context of her show, and profile, you couldn't buy this kind of publicity. You can't open your mouth these days without somebody crying racism, sexism or sectarianism. Brolly called it as he saw it and I'm sure as most people see it but are afraid to say so. He has apologised, probably unnecessarily, so people need to move on.

Nicely put, Tearintom. No one had a problem with Peter Canavan, Paul Early, Jamsie O'Connor or Nicky English as analysts it was just the whole "Ryanair" feel to the coverage & presentation.

Outside of the rights or wrongs of what Brolly said, people are missing out on the bigger picture. That is to bring Baywatch back to the minds of Irish lads everywhere. Baywatch, what a show!!

Totally agree.
I work with women in sport and this bull**** is what they put up with all the time. It's disgusting and he should lose the RTE gig over it. It's hard enough encouraging young women to take an interest in sport and participate, without a v high profile sports pundit objectifying them like this. It's the same state of mind that lost Andy Gray his job.

Intelligent man like Brolly should know there is other ways to attract the attention he craves than acting like a 12 year old.

1591795 "no one does expensive wrapping paper like sky"
Isn't that one of the main reasons why the EPL is so annoyingly popular here? Could that also work for Gaelic games? We all agree that the GAA is almost devoid of any marketing nous, then half of us object when they try something different or progressive!
Youve missed the point completely , raised originally by Hill , its TV3 but in a fancy dress , now before the dress went on the PRODUCT was deemed weak , but the wrapping paper or dress suddenly makes it quality , might work for some not myself .
Ah but Damo maybe it was the Manager that was deemed weak, who knows the players might get a new lease of life with more freedom under a new manager who knows ;)
manager .

Reading some of the stuff around here you'd think Sky was popular, or even good its not (MO). It has SUBSCRIBERS willing to pay through the nose for dross, it doesn't need to be popular, just needs the shillings. Poor Joe, very right to question her credentials, but the wrong way to do it.

Is RTE really better than Sky? Given how sports broadcasting has been moving I think it's more a case of RTE being left behind. In general their commentary is dreadful for most sports and the production values are nothing in comparison to sky. Sky has more money and has got decent analysts and an actual presenter to present the coverage, the fact that its not Michael Lyster should have nothing to do with it. Sky had itself myred in a sexism controversy however I've seen very few women involved in any of Rtes coverage. Then sky put forward a female presenter and leave it to Joe to make a daft sexist comment nothing being said about having a rugby league player as a presenter too.

Athcliath thanks Haha But being honest they basically stated that the other day as they said he's well used to using the equipment already as he uses them presenting rugby league for sky and they didn't want a situation where the analyst was focusing too much on equipment and not giving his opinion
