Good climax to a otherwise dire game .Moran stood up when Mayo needed him but Roscommon literlly kicked the game back to Mayo .They just lacked the bit of cuteness to finish them off .

O'Connor's free taking won the game for Mayo (Some were questionably awarded to say the least

Which ones?

We were in for 2 goal chances had the ref not called guys for what were fair tackles so I don't think Roscommon can be complaining on that front.

I dont think mayo are 2nd favourite clondalkindub based on the league semi and yesterday.
I think cork maybe tyrone/kerry/donegal would be a better bet at this stage
Horan threw on 2 debutants and it didnt work at all. They just didnt perform.
Where were these lads in the league ? Why wasnt sweeney or coen who have some experience
given a chance. I felt the occasion was too big for the the 2 new lads.
I wasnt at the match but supposedly the moonsoon like shower before hand had a bad affect on handling
but even given that fact mayo seemed clueless how to break down roscommon.
Mayo's tackling was top class and they were very good defensively overall but only for Cillian o connor
and supersub andy moran they were gone and that would probably have been the end of horans tenure.
But the showed great character to pull through but i dont think anyone really knows where mayo are at
Remind me a bit of donegal last year, not really at the races this year and although i think they
will beat sligo/galway i think they will be very vulnerable against a decent side in croke park

Hard to know where we are after that. Ros set themselves up to have a blanket defense and they had an extra back and a sweeper in front of the FB line. Also conditions didn't help us. Heavy showers and longish grass meant the pitch was slippy and as we're a running team this didn't really suit us.
Having said that we should have been about 5 points up in first half except for poor shooting. If we had then it would have been a different game as it would have forced Ros to abandon the defense and come out to play. Plus the team showed character in coming from 3 points down to win the match although Ros handed us several frees in second half to keep us in it.
Overall we looked a good bit away from where we were this time last year. Make for yourself whether this is a good thing or is it an indication of the team being physically wrecked after 3 years near the top.

Two Frees in the second half even your fellow Mayo man McStay was bemused by the refs decision to award them.

Mayo will improve but they looked a long way from the side that murdered us last year.

Bluewave, there were a lot of frees in the 2nd half. I ask again, what ones?

The sunday game lads were saying Roscommon threw it away by handing mayo obvious frees, so both of you cant be right.

Sam1996 have to agree with you on this one. He was in front of me during the first half and I have never seen such a lacklusture performance from him he was very poor. He did improve slightly in the second and kicked 2 or 3 good frees but how he got MOTM is beyond me.

V similiar to 2012 Connacht final in some ways, except a Ros Comáin team superior (and with a lot more potential) than that Sligeach team caused an even tighter escape

A top class free taker is priceless especially on a day like yesterday. We dont have one and it cost us.

Anyone see the people walking around Roscommon town dressed in military gear? They even had kids dressed up and the scarves for covering their faces, shades, the whole lot. What was that all about?

Dont think it did ye only missed one free in match from scorable position and that was on 45 against wind in 1st half, Both sides got some handy free but some bad calls the ref nearly(or may have booked)niall daly for diving in first half and it was a free in althought he made most of it sane thing happened mayo man in 2nd half and they got free in which they scored.

Have to agree about Cillian O'Connor have never understood all the talk about him he does very little from play even last year most his goals wer slapped into net after someone else did all the work.Few years ago he got young player of year and he didnt score from play outside of connacht that year

Cillian O'C was very effective yesterday. Took his frees well and was excellent at tackling Ros defenders when Mayo didn't have possession. His work rate is excellent and he caused a number of Ros turnovers aswell as setting up a few of Mayo scores. Would agree that he didn't deserve man of match but he did put in another solid display. Tom Cunniffe, Andy Moran or Cregg would've been my choices

i thought the ref was very hard on roscommon
there was some clear frees they didnt get
when the game was near the end he gave some very soft frees to mayo
id be worried about mayo after all the years there playing togheter
they were so many occasions when they took wrong option
when a passs to team mate was the right option
you think at this stage teaamwork passing etc
not be an issue lot players going for their own glory
roscommon also kicked it away they had mayo for the taking
the dominance of mayo is slowly coming to an end
i think they have goneback the way really
and galway and roscommon are coming with lot of underage talent
im hoping galway can come through sligo
and our forwards do the buissness v mayo

I would disagree with those who say that Cillian just got a few tap in goals against Donegal and London last year. He was the main man against Galway and set up the 4 goals we scored that day. He was not great from play yesterday but none of the forwards were, very poor conditions. I'm hopeful he'll have a good connaught final.
