1599040 Check all my previous posts Decky, I am just a realist, we are not in Mayo's class at present, we have very good forward divison but our defence and midfield aren't good enough for the top level, Seanie Mac the only proper defender we have in my opinion.

I'm a realist myself. Mayo are a step or two ahead of us at present, I don't think there's a sane person in the country that would dispute that. I know your posts, they run the team into the ground at times. Maybe you're just utterly pessimistic all of the time, which probably saves you heartache when it comes to following Roscommon. But if that is the case, chin up, a bit of belief never killed anyone.

Geography not your strong point? You have the wrong county. IMO Mayo wont win anyting until they believe in themselves on the big day.

No my geography is fine actually. So are my observational skills by the way. For instance, you talk at length about the intricacies of the club scene in Dublin over on the county page, yet cant name the starting 6 forwards for Roscommon on this thread - smith and one of the murtaghs aren't playing man...

When you say 'senan', you are aware that is Kilbride, and not Connell, right?

Afraid I am a pessimist by nature always expect the worst anything above that I see as a bonus. As with most posters I think it will be a year or two before we are ready to challenge the big teams.

no I Said the Roscommon best 6 forwards above would make the Mayo team. I know Murtagh and Smith aren't starting Sunday. I maintain our forwards are better than Mayo athletes. Where did I talk about Dublin scene???

Rosineri1, you wouldn't know either. We are favourites and for good reason. But even if we do win, Roscommon have the armoury to do damage to a lot of teams and personally I think they could do that this year, not next. A good scalp this year would aid their development no end for the coming years also. I know our beating cork in 11 made the team sit up and take notice. It was a bit of a lightbulb moment where they realised they could genuinely mix it with the big boys, and they have stated as much themselves. They started growing from that moment and I think Roscommon are in a similar position, albeit maybe not quite as high up as regards who they could beat. I think they could beat the likes of Kildare or meath for example. Galway, Down, Armagh, these teams are no beter than Roscommon. If we look at meath for example, who a lot of people have backed to do well this year, they have keoghan but Roscommon have McDermott. Do meath have defenders of the ability or carty and daly? Meath are stronger in midfield alright, but up front, Roscommon are well ahead of them for my money anyway. They are man for man every bit as good as these teams.

Handy.....and most importantly, of course, the late, great Dermot Earley, seed, breed and generation, from Castlebar Co Mayo.

The O'Sheas are Kerrymen? News to me. I must have gone to school down in the Southwest, and not Castlebar like I thought. Andy Moran and Regan play for Mayo and have done for their entire careers, it's about time you and lot of other Rossies got over it.

Evan Regan is a Mayo man his only Roscommon connection is his Roscommon dad however he could play for us he wanted too. While the late great Dermot Earley was born in Castlebar his family moved to Roscommon at early age Dermot grew up and was educated here and to really define where someone is from IMO it's where you kick your first football which in Dermot's case was Roscommon.

In regards to Andy Moran and without opening another can of worms. He comes from a Roscommon town where their club plays in Mayo which is the only county team he's allowed to play for. Andy doesn't have the same passion for Roscommon as Dermot Earley had however he also grew up,educated and kicked his first football in Roscommon.

Surprised at how some Maigh Eo posters are dismissing the loss to Doire as akin to last year's league semi loss. Having watched both games I felt there was a world of difference. Last year ye kept with them despite conceding 2 early goals. Cillian O Connor was in incredible form for me that day, he just wanted every ball (this was after the 2 sidelines in Páirc Uí Chaoimh).

This year v a county with much more limited resources every break was in your favour. 2 points up, a man up and a manager who repeatedly commented on how he wanted to win the league. And then the most gutless of capitulations that I have seen from Maigh Eo in a while, certainly not in Horan's tenure. I'd be a lot more concerned (but I still think you'll win on Sunday!)

And before anyone interprets this in the wrong way, mother from Clár Clainne Mhuiris; I would give my eye tooth for ye to win the bloody thing, hope I'll prove never to have been more incorrect!

You make a fair point, which is equally applicable to the O'Sheas and Donal Vaughan, as they lived in Mayo from a very early age.

As regards Ballaghadereen, I always found an ambivalent attitude there regarding county allegiances. Whenever my club played away to Ballagh at underage, some of the locals seemed to make a point of turning up in Roscommon jerseys. Yet whenever you drive through the place en route to Croker, you'd always see a lot of Mayo flags and bunting in the Market Square. Someone told me once that there was an attempt made to set up a team in Ballagh playing in the Roscommon league and championship- anyone know more? I think the club was called St. John's, though I could be wrong.

Next time Roscommon are in an AI final there won't be much Mayo bunting up

Yes in the early 90s a second club was to be set up in Ballagh to be called St John's anyone that played for that club would have the opportunity to play for Roscommon. It had to be voted in by the Connacht GAA the deciding vote was Leitrim go voted against it the fact John O'Mahony was Leitrim manager at the time apparently influenced the vote however Leitrim would hardly ever side with us on anything.

With the weather thats expected the toss and who plays into the cemetery end in the all important 2nd half will have a say for me on who wins.
If roscommon get these important aids it will be a lot closer than people think.
