galway mayo will be in castlebar next time they meet, no question, given the home and away arrangement in place.

Galway haven't beaten sligo in years in the championship and I don't see us wining away to them.

London have gotton weaker this year so expect we will get over them by 6 points.

Ah yes, the old passive aggressive, false praise bit... Mayo 'need to be beating the rossies' by 1 point, that is the only thing they need to do in this game.

we will 100% beat mayo on the 8th will take a good team to beat us this year .

You want two things from this thread young fella 1) For people to agree with you and say Roscommon will win and that will make you feel all warm and fussy inside or 2) People to disagree with you and have a good aul shouting match.

That is sort of the way most threads work yewtree.

answering the question in hand, I see a banana skin on the pitch for mayo. I think there is much less pressure on ros and they will play with some flare. Mayo could look into the darkness earlier than they usually do this year. On paper they should trash roscommon, but they might not be as good as some posters are leading us to believe.

I watched Roscommon in the div 3 league final. The first 15 minutes they were awful. Cavan were pulling away easily from them, but the rest is history. If they start like that against Mayo it'll be over by half time. However, this Mayo team has regressed considerably since last year based on the league. No spirit, no fight against Derry in the semi-final, even with an extra man for most of the game. The game will be considerably closer than last year. I actually believe Roscommon have better forwards than Mayo, but Mayo have an advantage in midfield. Will Roscommon give any of the u21's a start does anyone reckon?

Mayo haven't regressed as much as you think, this time last year they had crashed out against Dublin after scoring only 6 points in the league and it still didn't stop them getting to the final. Even The Sunday Game's panellists bought into the talk of Mayo losing to Galway and we all know how that one ended up. So despite Jason Gibbons's injury Mayo will have close to a full squad to choose from meaning Roscommon will have a tough job going up against a team who mixed it up with the big boys in Division. I agree that it will be closer than last year and the Rossies are definitely looking sharp but you mentioned no spirit or fight against Derry, what do you think will happen if the spirit and fight does come back?

mayo v galway final and the hyde are real contenders to get the connacht final this year.

I don't know where you got that idea Niamh but if it is a Mayo v Galway Final it will be in Castlebar as Mayo and Galway have a home/away agreement for every second time they play each other. Would get a much bigger crowd in MacHale Park too.

Thats what i heard when i was the roscommon v leitrim match. Roscommon and the hyde are trying to bring it back to the hyde and are real contenders to get the final,. I have nothing against mayo facilities and it does bomb when it comes to the final and greater facilities . and does well for business but roscommon should get back after thy did so well in 2 years n row . but i dont knw, where would it be if it was roscommon v sligo/london/galway or mayo v sligo/london/galway.

but do u think roscommon shoundt host the connaCHT FINAL

but i wonder will there be a minor game before mayo v roscommon

but i hope roscommon put up a decent performance

Mayo are the Second best team in the country by a distance.I believe they are the only team in the country currently on a level footing with Dublin and well capable of beating them on their day.

On paper their is only one winner,I remember when we ambushed the great Galway team in Tuam in 2001,It had such a profound effect on them that they went out and won the All Ireland through the backdoor!!

What age are you? I never said that. All I am saying if it is a Mayo v Galway Connacht final it will 100% be in Castlebar. Roscommon can lobby all they want. Anyway thats enough of that for now.

Mayo will win the game. As far as Connacht C'ships go last year was the only cakewalk as far as I recall.

Yee tree no one in Roscommon is lobbying to hold the connacht final. I think niamhy misunderstood people who were probably talking about the work that is going to be carried out on the hyde next year so that it can hold finals in the future. Mayo are the second best team in Ireland and don't know why some posters on here love kicking them so much, although there seems to be some ulster posters on here who love nothing better then kicking Connacht football. The newbus is not a Roscommon person but probably a Mayo troll so would not past much heed on them.

This is baffling. How on earth can you come to that conclusion after our league performance this year was better?! We finished comfortably ahead of relegation. Not so last year. There has been no regression in Mayo!

If's and but's man. There's no question Mayo are a better team than Roscommon, and should take care of them in this game, indeed I have them tipped to win it, however, if I were a Mayo fan I'd be concerned at the way they threw in the towel in the league semi-final. It shouldn't be too hard to lift it of course for a game against your deadliest rivals, and so for that reason I think Mayo will win it. But in terms of reaching the levels of the previous two years i.e. making the AI final, no, I'd have Cork ahead of them, perhaps Derry and Tyrone on par with them, and Dublin comfortably ahead. Mayo haven't replenished their side like Dublin have in the last few years, contrast Dublin's 2011 side with today's team. You need at least 3 new players a season to keep the thing fresh. That has also been Donegal's demise. Same could be said for Kerry in a way. Unfortunately, we all don't have the riches the Dubs do in terms of manpower at this moment in time.

But Roscommon will topple yous in Connacht soon, super young talent on the way.

I was contrasting this years league with last years championship. I should have made that clearer.

Again, with respect, I don't think that's a clear reflection. I'll never forget Mayo's flat display against Dublin in the league semi final alst year, folowed two weeks later by an absolute blitz in Salthill. It's apples and oranges really. Mayo in the championship will be a very different prospect to Mayo in the league.

Mayo team named last night:

Robbie Hennelly (Breaffy)
Tom Cunniffe (Castlebar Mitchels)
Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites)
Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis)
Lee Keegan (Westport)
Colm Boyle (Davitts)
Donal Vaughan (Ballinrobe)
Aidan O'Shea (Breaffy)
Seamus O'Shea (Breaffy)
Diarmuid O'Connor (Ballintubber)
Conor O'Shea (Breaffy)
Jason Doherty (Burrishoole)
Kevin McLoughlin (Knockmore)
Alan Freeman (Aghamore)
Cillian O'Connor (Ballintubber)

Interesting team. No real surprises in the backs, (as excepted keith is restored to his rightful position) and with Jason Gibbons injured and Barry Moran just back, its over to the two O'Se's. Now its the half forward line that will jump out at many. Apparently Conor O Se has been going really well in training so there you go and Diarmuid O'Connor who showed well in NY (ok we can't really judge on that game but all the same he was only minor last year). Doherty starting can be a bit hit and miss. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kevin Mc drop back to the half forward line and Doherty move up or else Andy Moran start in his place.

Great to see Freeman starting. People have been giving out that Horan starts with the same few forwards, so you can't deny he is mixing it up a bit with that selection. Plenty of experience on the bench too should we need it, which includes Richie Feeney, Barry Moran, Chris Barrett, Kevin Keane, Brendan Harrison, Enda Varley, Darren Coen and Mikey Sweeney (who I think is unlucky not to be getting a start).

Looking forward to Sunday now. Up Mayo!

I was in Tuam Stadium in 2001 when The Rossies were given less chance than they're given next Sunday.

Was in Hyde Park at the Connacht Final the same year. NEVER write off The Rossies !

GreenandRed - I don't think everybody is. Talking to a few GAA men in the county yesterday and they think it will be tighter than most think. Mayo never liked playing Roscommon in Hyde Park. That said if we bring our A game we should have too much. I think a few in Roscommon are disappointed none of the u-21's are starting especially Murtagh and their half back line is apparently make shift. We will see but as Jim Gavin said yesterday there are no certainties in sport.

I am sure the Ros fans will be respectful as ever on Sunday to their visitors.
