Interesting view on that free awarded at the end.

I think Coldrick also boobed not issuing a Black card to the Down player earlier in the game.
Unusual for him to make 2 high profile error calls in the 1 game.
Still one of the best ref's around though.

You only have to listen to Colm O'Rourke's comments on Down before the match and at half time on Sunday to establish some form of idea of how much some Meath folk loathe Down. All he did was slabber about what poor a team we are rather than actually analysis our chances - 'The worst team I've seen in division 2'. At half-time is was 'game over'. Amateur and boring, never anything constructive to add to a debate.

A lot of people blaming the ref for different things, but look you have to remember, the more decisions he has to make the more he will get wrong. A guy not getting a black card when he should is no different to a guy not getting a yellow card when he should - something that happens often in games. Refs are going to get these wrong too, that appears to be something we are not considering.

So Colm O'Rourke bleats out a few not particularly flattering comments about Down and this is all the proof we need that any Meath referee is also 'out to get you'. Be sure and keep that tin foil hat fresh now won't you Mournearmy.

Don't believe in blaming the ref. He's only human. When the game is over it's over and Tyrone folk will probably jump on here and say I'm saying this because Conor Maginn got off getting a black card but sure down folk will argue back about Sean cavanagh's free so no matter what way you look at it blaming the ref is the most pointless thing to do. Never agreed with it, never will.

Thats the thing Master. Adding another rule for the refs to have to deal with is not a wise idea given the inconsistency we already see in the application of rules already in place. This isn't because I don't agree with the principle of the black card as it has it merits but its just the fact that like a lot of things its down to interpretation of the rule by the referee and this will inevitably lead to games being officiated different from day to day and week to week. As we have already seen different interpretations of the Black Card in its short existence it tells us one of two things. 1 - the rule isn't clear enough or 2 - some refs aren't up to scratch as they don't understand this rule (and perhaps others).

From a players or managers point, it shouldn't be the case that you have to look to see who the ref is in a game or see how they are applying the rules in the opening minutes of a game to see how you approach it but this is the case. Rather than everyone understanding a rule and it being applied by the book from game to game you end up playing the Ref as opposed to playing the Rule.

Always the voice of reason is MDF, unusual for Down folk I know. Hope you enjoyed your post match feed at Quinns MDF.

Personally I wasn't surprised about the outcome on Saturday although we probably should have had the game won with the amount of possession we had in the first half. Fair play to Down, they kept it tight at that stage and made it hard for us - and they were obviously helped by the referee when you look at the balance of decisions over the course of the game. In the second half they executed their game plan well and ran at us so fair play to them.
In 2012 Tyrone played 17 matches between McKenna Cup, League and Championship and won 14 of these losing just 3 - the three that they lost were all ref'ed by Coldrick. These were the only 3 that he officiated in involving Tyrone seniors that year. So our record was 14/14 with other Refs combined, 0/3 with Coldrick. I'm not saying we should have won all three but when the only 3 that we lost were all ref'ed by Coldrick it does stand out.
Fair enough he did officiate in a huge win for us last year in the qualifiers when we won by around 20points against Offaly - it would have been difficult for a ref to have any impact on the outcome of this one.
So all in all against Down and Coldrick at the weekend I'm happy enough with a draw. Any word on who's in charge on Saturday yet?

My gripe on the match last Sunday is that the tyrone goalie should have been red carded and as such should not allowed to play this saturday. Maginn should also have been black carded but that is all.
Looking foward to saturday night....I hope we can do it. Tyrone have won in Newry before in championship and league so they won't fear playing Down in the marshes.

Seanie boy I do believe Down will win.

Joe Brolly is very wise and he said on Sunday
"Down have the scent of blood in there nostrils
for the replay".

Its not all over yet but I think Down should be favourites
on Saturday.Newry will be like a cauldron.
