National Hurling League - Predictions - Round 4

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Nothing to charity hurling spuds cos I was taken up on my bet. Nothing based on this match anyway. Offaly are v average side so really really sickening. I posted concerns about management in lk forum yesterday. We were lucky to beat a wexford who are only marginally better. Hope it's the kick in the A the management need but hard for me to believe that if I'm honest

Give you a 3 point gap so if limerick don't beat offaly by more than 3 points I will give 200 to a charity of your choice.

Do the decent thing DF. It's only fair.

Oldtourman, thanks for that and I think we have every chance now of taking Cork next Sunday, having said that I would be more confident if we were playing in Wexford Park, it is a tough thing to have both Cork and Limerick away.

Rebel u implied I was reneging. I don't appreciate that. I offered 200 to a charity of realtmos choice if he would give 50 to barnardos. He didnt take me up on it.

If offaly had won today I'd have given em a chance to make d qtrs. Laois r now there fair play to em. Tipp in dire trouble defensive issues to b sorted. Up front we can score nearly 20 points a game. All our totals wud nearly win you a game. Relegation on the cards and deservedly so. Pretty woeful.

DF you have nothing to pay up as I never took you up on your offer, fair play to you for offering to pay money to a charity. Wildpundit in regards Tipp we can also make a 1/4 final next week if Waterford and Galway are beaten and we beat Dublin we still have a chance of 1/4 final spot then. Our problem is only in the full back spot when Paudie Maher went back in the second half it tighten it up P Stapleton is not at the races after his injury. The other problem is Tipp traning is way to hard for the week of a game, it is hard heavy traning, it seems to me O Shea does'nt care about the league which is a pity as I expected us to give the league a right go this year.

no need for that little dig at Wexford there. I hope we meet you again with a full team take our chances next time.

Back to the hurling. What a day again. Fair play to Offaly and Antrim/laois shook ourselves and cork too. Really looking forward to next weekend. If Laois can throw up a big performance again and we could sneak in Cork(which isn't beyond our capabilities) we could surprise everybody. It has really bothered me that 1B has gotten no media coverage and when it has everybody chose to ignore that Wexford were on top. Do they want more counties hurling at the top level or not ??

Doyler u forget we were missing hannon hickey dowling Dempsey Tomas Ryan Cathal king and David Breen so enough of this full team business.

I am sorry I didn't mean to have a dig. We have a serious prob on the line they just don't make changes when they needed. If u were in g grounds last week u would have seen Downes turn the game when moved to h forward line. U would know fans were shouting for that change for 15 mins before it was made. I couldn't get to tullamore today but my brother was there n we never moved Downes to h forward line at all. So the change that beat wxford wasn't implemented. Just beggars belief. We started with 3 (THREE) outside chances in forwards1 who didn't even touch the ball even once before he was taken off. Management is a huge concern for me and a big plus for we ford I'd say.

Only a slim chance but we would have to beat Dublin by a cricket score.

Can someone explain what way the NHL works this year? What way do the Q finals work. Personally I think there's not enough teams in it to have quarter finals.

If the heads are right and the best players are playing in their best positions, Galway can beat anyone on their day. They let Tipp back into today's game towards the end giving away a lot of soft frees and a needless 21 after being around 10 points up at one stage so they have to tighten up at the back. However Tipp have been our bogey team over the last decade, so it was good to come out the right side of the result today. A huge game against the near neighbours Clare in Ennis next week and needless to say that will be much tougher than even today was. Hopefully with the Portumna contingent plus the likes of Donnellan still to come back that will strengthem the panel as we are still lacking strength in depth.

The top four teams in 1a AND the top four teams in 1b go into the quarter-finals. So as it stands, Laois, Wexford, Limerick and Cork have already booked their quarter-final places, where they'll probably be joined by Kilkenny, Clare, Galway, and Dublin (or maybe Waterford). So only the bottom 2 in each tier don't make the quarter-finals. Seems a bit daft to me, I thought it'd take the intensity out of the league games, but I guess we'll see how it goes. Under this system, I don't think relegation from 1a to 1b is that much of a big deal, 1b might actually be the better division to be in (which might be just as well for Tipp!).

I think you have a point 1b may not be as bad as some make out, on the limerick page there's despair from most of the locals but as i said other than a few big matches and of course the extra money from the bigger gates which is important in fairness there is some positives to be in 1b.anyway league is league and championship is championship. With regard to the next matches from what i saw of wexford i'd give them every chance of taking cork, thats if they play like they did against us.

bottom two teams in 1b play off then? And the loser of that gets another chance against 2a winners too?

With the right approach I feel ye have the potential to take Cork. We are about a similiar standard to ye and we played Cork with our top scoring forward put off with a 1/4 of an hour gone and we still drew with them. They have also only scored one goal in the last four games. The main plan should be concentrated on containing Horgan, Lehane and Pa Cronin without undue fouling

Fergie I think Carlow and Kerry got the wrost deal out of everybody.

Yeah I'd have been very confident but the injury list is getting longer and with kehoe, chin and shore all out we'll have a make shift half back line. .. . forwards are firing really well though so I'm full of hope going down there. Promotion is along shot for us now though.
