game.on.now.ger - good information - I wonder when that rule was put in place did they not consider the All Ireland series and if so does that mean there simply is no rule that applies?

So if there is a clear rule or precedence then what were the grounds of appeal? Surely by the very fact that the CCCC granted an appeal hearing the grounds for appeal was met so in that case what were they? Or is that not the way appeal hearing happen in the GAA and if you appeal do you get a hearing regardless of what the grounds are?

square_ball_69 - good precedent example with parallels - did this player play or does that even matter?

Going on what Game OnNow Ger came up with i'd be backing the Antrim club to get the decision in their favour.

The rule is not clear cut anyway.

Ballysaggart should be ashamed of themselves. Their complaint boils down to ' Creggan fielded a player who was TOO YOUNG' ! For an adult competition? Where is your pride Ballysaggart? Ye were part of a memorable final ( by all accounts) , ye lost, show a bit of pride in yourselves and have a bit if respect for your opponents , the game, the Association and your county and withdraw your meanspirited unsporting appeal .

The reason a player u16 is not allowed play senior even if good enough is 1) most players u16 would not have the physicality to play Senior or Junior. Also I think it is to stop u16's playing with what could be 8 different teams if they played both hurling and football in both codes from u16 to senior resulting in burnout.

Creggan you got the cup you won the match you got the memories nothing else realy counts .If they order a replay put out your over 40's and we'll sponsor them in aid of a good charity then you'll go down in history .

To be "Over" an age shall mean that the player shall have celebrated the Lower Limit birthday (e.g. 16th. to participate in Senior/Under 21 Grades) prior to the 1st. January of the Championship Year.
Adult shall include Senior, Intermediate and Junior Grades.

Taken from the official rule book, so the only question that has to be answered is do the 2 lads in question turn 17 some time this year, and if they do they have broken no rules as this was the 2014 junior championship, if they don't then the punishment is forfeit of the game no replay.

Did a bit of looking at the official guide there and it seems that Objections and subsequent Appeals only need to adhere to the time limit and include the Rule broken then a hearing is set. Thought it would make sense for the CCCC to review the Objection first and then if there is a Rule broken organise the hearing but it seems they don't.

I think its a continuation of 2013 championship therefore it looks like rules were broken. Technically Ballysaggart are intermediate in 2014 therefore its must be a 2013 championship. Thats my reading on it anyway.

After your mans moaning it stinks of sour grapes ok. But rules are rules and they are there to be adhered to.

People are missing the point here. Ballysaggart had underage players in the same position and didn't play them so feel hard done by. Of course they should have done what Bredagh apparently did last year and clarified the rule, they only have themselves to blame really but it's not as petty an objection as it seems on the face of it.

There was a similar episode in limerick where last years u21 final saw a team who reached the final thrown out for playing an under 16 in the semi final ... On appeal not sure on what grounds they got back in to play final without the player in question and won it ..... In this case the Waterford crowd had 2 chances to beat the Antrim team and couldn't ... Should leave it at this stage

If I were a ballysaggert I would have neither the stomach nor the heart to play another replay. I'd actually refuse to play and if the GAA insisted on a replay I would have the losing semi finalists play instead.

The 2014 all ireland JFC final IS a different competition than their 2013 county and provincial championships. If the players turned 17 then no rules were broken . Full stop.

The players were 16 in 2013, they are 17 in 2014 - they are eigible ( may be 16 now but 17 later in the year)- this thing about new competitions etc is really sour grapes, clutching at straws, Ballysaggart and Waterford should hang their heads in shame. It is the Waterford county Board who objected on behalf of their club.

If they lost to a Kilkenny, Wexford etc would they have objected. Ballysaggart were favourites to win, they didn't. The first game ended in a draw, extra time and them a replay.........

Sportmanship and honour are lost down in the south-east!!!
