Croke Park Residents - Brooks Concerts

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The status of the residents property or their social class should have absolutely nothing to do with the argument.

The issue of people moving into an area where a stadium resides is a different matter however...

Dessie, believe it or not it is possible to be hardworking AND live in social rented accomodation, seems that you are looking at things in a very black and white hue, life is not like that my friend.

But again I come back to the point that if you buy or rent a house beside a stadium you have to expect these disturbances.
_______

The GAA has broken the agreement that was in place Dessie...

Hence the reason why they didn't want to consult with the residents

They knew the back lash they would have... so pressed ahead regardless

I really hope that a number of these concerts are cancelled

They GAA have really been exposed here

The association is meant to be about community... yet they treat the one on their door step with absolute disdain

5 concerts in a row is way over the top... the sound checks, the construction... etc etc etc

Also jimbo, The Distillery Apartments, who is urinating in their gardens exactly? Bar the noise, the vast majority of the people in the areas you have named will only have to deal with a bit of congestion when getting to and from places because most houses are not actually on the main paths to the stadium at all. Now Im not trying to undermine the people who do have a genuine issue, because there is a certain number of them. But you are clearly trying to pretend that more people are being badly affected than is actually the case. Just stick to the facts, if they have a case there should be no need to exaggerate.

What you on about now... urinating in their gardens... I don't remember saying anything about that

It doesn't take much of a mind to realize the massive disturbances of 5 concerts in a row would have on these residents

Again that's just one small example of the many hundreds of privately owned residences who will be affected...

The hook and line acceptance that you bestowed upon Dessie's point of view just shows your complete lack of local knowledge of the surrounding areas of Croke Park

Absolutely...

What about the GAA breaking agreements that were already in place?

That's exactly what they've done without even consulting the residents.

Have to say my family are very interested in the outcome of this as some of them live beside Casement park and are expecting the same treatment as residents around Croke (to be treated with utmost contempt ).

I was always under the impression that the residents were fairly well-off, especially the ones doing the whining (surprise). It's only five nights in dunno how many years, get over it and man up

I don't dissagree with what you are saying Jim. But how binding is this agreement? Is it a contract or just an agreement of understanding?

I must say that i do have sincere sympathy for the residents but Croker is like an airplane for the want of a better metaphor. It doesn't make money whilst empty in the same way a plane makes no money on the ground. The GAA could hardly refuse such an offer, and unless im mistaken, unless the Dublin City Council objects to it, there is nothing to prevent them legally from hosting concerts on the scale they are this summer. What they can do is enter a meaningful engagement upon how to mimimize the disruption, something that doesn't happen at the moment.

Still time to move away if they're not able for it.

What Master did there jimbo was take a point I, and others, made about those living on the approach routes having their gardens urinated in and try and try and apply it to one of the places you named (only one of the places though!) in the misguided attempt to make a point.

It is almost as if the Master doesn't really know what he's on about............

Any update on how you know for a fact the split between private and social housing in the area Master?

Flack I completely agree... even at 3 gigs

But unfortunately the GAA have broken agreements that were in place

5 concerts in a row was never part of what was agreed and to not even consult the residents... come on...

You cant treat people like that and they are well within their rights to complain about it and I honestly hope a number of these concerts are cancelled with full refunds.

I lived in that area myself and not once would I even considere to whinge

I loved living beside the place... you could see the back of Hill 16 from our bedroom window and could look at the big screen

But the GAA are taking the **** here...

Your dead right master, 'badly affected' is a bit strong jimbo, 'badly affected' is(eg) the people who got flooded out there recently, their houses destroyed. It's not some hick in a Stetson moping around outside your door, yet these are the ones doing all the whining

listening to Garth Brooks for five nights is just not on, I'm sure there's some human rights violation being carried out here like the US troops blasting loud music into the cells in Guantanamo bay.

The local residents should be offered alternative accommodation in a hotel down the country for the duration of this ear bleeding dirge that'd melt any sane persons brain.

Altogether now;

"I've got friends in low places"

Ad nauseam

I mentioned urinating in gardens because I live on Clonliffe road and have had that happen on more than one occasion.

bobby_shane I am sure that has happened on occasion and I have experienced similar issues with various rag weeks etc in my time. My point is jimbo went off listing out several different places. The reality is 95% of the people in those places have never faced this issue, and several other issues being listed, because most are not living on the main drag to croke park, in fact the people in the apartments he listed dont even have gardens, hence my example. My issue is with him exaggerating the point. He is in fact undermining it by trying to make it seem worse than it is. Why not just stick to the truth? I am sure there are some bad experiences - like there are with any big public event, but to hear him tell it, every person in the areas he named have people making their lives a misery with invasions and destruction of property, people fearing for their safety etc. I just wanted to point out that for most of them, they have issues with noise and congestion on the main roads if they happened to need to use them at that time, and that is about it. Are you saying that isnt accurate?

mesamis, I dont need to know the exact split of public/private housing for the point I am making. Why would I? However, that must mean that you have the exact figures to hand, otherwise you obviously couldnt be making a point on the topic either, right? Either that or it is one rule for me and another for you, and I know you wouldnt dream of applying that logic...

I wouldn't dream of making a statement such as yours were you stated that "most" Croke Park residents were living in accomadation "free of charge". I am merely asking you to back up your claim.

You make a claim, I ask you to back that up. You either back it up or you don't.

It's not one rule for me and one for you at all. I don't have exact figures but I never made a claim like you did (probably for the very reason that I don't have figures). I merely asked you for clarification of your claim. The burden of proof lies with you unless you believe that you don't have to back up your claims?

You can't just go round making claims, then refusing to back them up and instead insisting that someone else proves you wrong. You cannot make a claim and not have evidence to back it up.

You may think that "most" residents around Croke Park got their accomadation for free but that is not the same as it being a fact.

I geneuinely don't understand how you don't think that you have to back up any of your claims.

Just on that last point by MesAmis...

That's a classic TheMaster argument. Look, hes an "anybody but Dublin" supporter, but when he talks about an issue that he is clearly misinformed on, people have to call him out on it.

Now just so everybody is clear here, nobody around Croke Park lives there for free. They all pay rent of some description, whether they live in social housing, renting from private landlords etc. Then there are homeowners in the area, who bought houses, so people stop claiming that people are living there for FREE. They are not. Its simply not true, and its an elitist and antisocial comment to make about people who were offered.

Look, an agreement between the residents and Croke Park said no more than three gigs outside the normal GAA calendar would occur in Croke Park.

The GAA broke that agreement. Urination on footpaths....rubbish on the streets....noise pollution etc are things that the residents have a right to be upset about.

TheMaster needs to stop this argumentative rant; he clearly lacks knowledge about the area and his statements are generally without any foundation. And when he is asked to back up what hes saying his usual "prove me wrong" mantra starts.

The treatment of the residents is DESPICABLE......END OF!

Ironic then, that the chair of the residents committee, is from the North!
