Before anyone country lad comes on and says: "Croker was there before the residents"....you are wrong!!
'Most' of the houses and cottages around Croker have been there long before Croker was even a dream!

Completely agree

The GAA is meant to be about community and this is how they are treating the one on their door step

5 nights is too much... simple as that.

Trust me there is no GAA Community around Croke Park!

Locals looking for handouts as usual.

If you buy a house beside a stadium then be prepared for the consequences.

Actually, most people around there didn't even buy heir Houses, they were given them by the government!!

Kinda got a foot in both camps here in that I'm a GAA member but also born and bred in the area.

I live within 5 mins walk from Croker but lucky not live on the approach routes to the stadium, and on the other side where less people congregate on big match/concert days.

I get that the argument that Croke Park has been there for 100 years etc but the residents do have a lot of legitimate concerns. Damage to property is a big issue on match days, from windows, cars, public urination in gardens in front of homes etc, vomiting, waste being thrown in gardens and general disturbances it is not a pretty view a lot of the time on big match days/concerts. People begin drinking very early in the morning and on long journeys to Dublin by bus/train and the results of that can certainly be seen in and around Croke Park.

I think a lot of the residents complaints wouldn't come to much if people were a little bit more considerate of the fact that people do live around Croke Park.

It saddens me to read the stereotypical view by one Dublin poster above regarding those who live in the vicinity.

Would I be lying if I said that a large amount of the locals were given their Houses by the Government/Social Welfare or are in receipt of large amounts of Rent Allowance, jobs seekers etc.??

Wonder will he start his set with "We Bury The Hatchet":

Hey, all the neighbors lights
Came on last night
Just like they do every time
We have a little fight
It's gettin' to the point
We can't get along
We're always fighting about things
That should be dead and gone

Don't think I'd fancy having to listen to 5 nights of Garth never mind the disruption element.

Its a difficult situation. I accept that some of the cottages were constructed before Croker but at the same time i seriously doubt if any of those people are alive who lived then. Regarding people who move into the area, well you know an 80,000 seater stadium is on your doorstep so you have to be reasonable in your criticism as you knew what you were moving into.

However, i do think 5 concerts in a row is an exceptional circumstance, and i'd expect exceptional criteria to be enforced regarding minimizing the impact on the daily lives of the residents. I'd expect to see huge amounts of stewards protecting property as what happens in festivals and i'd also envisage a cordon of staff ushering people away from residential areas once the gig finishes. I'd also expect a reasonable curfew in terms of when the gigs end.
