Counties that seem to be allies/get on well

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just wondered does anyone ever notice the way some counties have good relations more than most or are soft to each other to a certain degree. Being a meath man I always noticed that Armagh and Down were always good relations with meath espically down playing a few challenges every year and the like. I think it goes back to peter McDermott training them in the 1960s when they won all Irelands, meath seem to play cavan as well a lot and most meath fans wouldn't mind cavan but I don't think they feel the same!
I definitely noticed that cavan and Dublin seem to get on very well , i think its down to all the cavan people in Dublin and the fact meath are big rivals with dubs also noticed this with louth and Dublin. meath and Kerry seem to get on a lot better than meath and cork! the same with galway and meath, I think this is down to the large ex galway/Connemara population in meath, we have to thank them for sending up, the lyons, mattie Kerrigan, harnans, mick mellet, nigel nestor and countless others who played with meath down the years! what other counties have good relations in your parts?

Dublin & Kerry definitely have a mutual respect for eachother being the two most successfull counties.

The Kilkenny footballers get on with most teams, they love a few pints and a bit of craic, sometimes even after the game is over :D

Donegal & Down get on well together.

It's all that superior breeding & class that is so lacking in other Ulster counties!!!!

Superior breeding in Donegal...!

Mayo and Galway generally get on well together from supporter experiences anyway.

No problem with meath at all. They are a natural footballing team. It wasnt their fault that mcaneaney done his job poorly. Mayo always respect teams who can play football.

Antrim footballers get on great with all counties, and that's why we let them have 2 points everytime we play them ;)

We always seem to get on well with Kerry alright, Fans get on well, the players all seem to be pally aswell off the pitch down the years.
You rarely get a genuine kerryman having a go at the Dubs the way other counties on HS do.
As for being mates with Cavan..cant say i ever noticed either way, but Breffni is on a one man crusade to take that down from the inside :)

Counties who's fans seem to really not like Dublin are Mayo, Laois, Cork and Tyrone. Dunno why, never get the friendly banter with them the way we do with other for some reason.

Ourselves and Meath are actually ok contrary to public belief!

westmeath love offaly over the years..the lovely people of westmeath were so fond of their succesful neighbours that they usta put flags out supporting the opposition as the offaly people went up to croker for games!

Ah jimbo, but what a woman she is!! It was always more about quality than quantity in Donegal. Dublin traditionally favoured the "stack em high & sell em cheap" approach, but that would never have found favour in Tir Conaill!!

Cavan people do a serious amount of plawmausing Dublin footballers, iv noticed this a lot. I think its a one way st though with dubs not really paying any heed. I think cavan people look to Dublin not Belfast for employment education etc they seem very leinster in their outlook for an ulster county.actually noticed a lot of leinster rugby jerseys around that county espically towards the meath/ Westmeath/ Longford borders. Have to sat Down people seem very classy, very well spoken almost a BBC northern accent, has anyone heard james mccarten?? the women seem very hot as well.!

Ah yes Meath and Dublin, we're like a couple who've been married for 60 odd years, there's nothing but bad vibes but in truth we'd be lost without each other :-)

I like the other Ulster counties, like Tyrone and Derry especially We all have good games against one another , you know the score, you dominate for a while and then they come back and give you a good hammering But I'm of the Viewpoint :::: what happens in Ulster stays in Ulster. So when a Ulster county gets to CROKE park and Donegal not there I support that county. Also like Mayo ,have great fans and still have the BELIEF after all those defeats Hope they win Sam soon
