1572139 I fancy Donegal too. But the experience in Croker is a great for our lads. I also want to commend Monaghan on moving from Div 3 to Div 1 in 2 years. Very impressive for a county with only 30 clubs
Getting a run out in Croke Park early in the season will do both sides good, as it is a sign that those long winter evening's heavy training, and early gym mornings are paying off. It's good for team morale. I don't think the final result will matter too much as long as both teams get a good competitive run out. Like I doubt the losing teams season will be over by any means, This game is about preparing for Championship really.
Monaghan's success last year was refreshing, and I was delighted to see them win Ulster. This year they will attempt to retain their Ulster title, and push on past the AI QF stage. Winning All Ireland's is no easy feat, as you have to beat 3 top sides in the All Ireland series, and chances are all will have varying styles which will ensure you be tested to the max. Monaghan have a talented team at present, which at full strength can put it to most teams. This year will bring fresh challenges, and the element of suprise is no longer available to Monaghan as reigning Ulster champions. While many have pointed out their physical style, It is worth noting that they are actually a very skillful side and their passing and shooting demonstrates this.
Donegal have previously won a Division 2 title, 2 x Ulster titles, 1 x All Ireland title. Even their youngest players have plenty of experience in Croke Park, which is valuable. They look more fluent than last season, and look to have more pace for some reason. While they have conceded a few goals most from opposition running direct at them, they have had the luxury of detecting this Issue early and their defense is shaping up nicely. Kick outs is something they will be working on, as that has been a problem area recently. Hungover and badly wounded last year, they will be keen to make amends this season.
Shh hardcore, don't be letting people know about Malachy's masterplan!
Messing aside, it was a good way to end the league and we can look forward to defending Ulster with confidence now. Donegal will be much improved when it comes to the Derry match I'm sure. Maybe we'll meet again down the line.
I wonder where is that galway eejit who said we'd get beaten easily?
