Say for example if Donegal and Monaghan are in the Div 2 final, is it definitely fixed for Croke Park?

It'd make way more sense to play it in Breffni or Brewster under lights. Get a good wee crowd at it and build it up properly.

Good suggestion Lockjaw, but far too sensible I fear.

Dublin's economy would collapse with sagebrush rolling down Drumcondra Rd if the likes of you, me & the Monaghan folk weren't brought miles out of our way.

Get your own back & bring sandwiches & flasks of tae.

Why is everyone assuming that Monaghan will win their last game?

Because we are the best team in the Division, and we haven't put our strongest 15 out yet!

Only just spotted this gem. Brightened up my evening to no end.

cuchulainn sorry the tuam experience did not do it for you. the irony is that the 3rd county ground in galway is I.e ballinasloe is likely to have floodlights before pearse stadium or tuam given it has received a council grant and has the pp. pearse obviously needs floodlights but objections by residents has put paid to that for now. balinasloe is no better than tuam and smaller although the pitch is very good. in fairness the pitch in tuam was pretty ok but the facilities are the issue. I also you are slightly exaggerating with the support breakdown. as expected armagh brought good support but 3 to 1 is stretching it. I was in the stand. for the 1st half and there was plenty of orange but when I went to the terrace across at half time very little armagh support there.

Ballinasloe is miles better than Tuam and it even has a SuperMacs across the street

A lot of people on here seem confused or annoyed with the rules . It's very simple . Naturally if two teams finish level head to head should be used . eg If Laois and Galway finished level , it would only make sense that Galway be relegated , as we beat them by fifteen points . But if three teams finished level , eg Laois Galway and Armagh , well Laois beat Galway , Galway beat Armagh , and Armagh beat Laois , so there is no head to head . Therefore score difference . Simple .

By the sounds of 1 of the Armagh posters on here it looks like a few of the Galway players are frequenting Supermacs a little too much.

To my friends from Galway - Tuam didn't do it for me...

Now Galway , as i stated earlier were the better team, should have scored at least another goal in the first half, and Armagh can count themselves very lucky to have both Mallon and Toner staying on the field. Toner did strike. James Kavanagh was also involved in an incident with Grugan he continued and then collapsed, but Galway were superior, no complaints here....
But with all the talk of SKY tv etc, we talk abou the fans, and how we promote the game etc,, if an alien had landed in Tuam on Sunday and we said to him it was a stadium, he would look twice at us.....

I have nothing against the town or people of Tuam - and those i met were very friendly, but it is 2014 and i would say that Tuam is 50-60 yrs outdated. Now i only have to visit the once famoue venue once in a blue moon, but if i was Mr or Mrs Murphy from Galway city with a passing interest in the GAA would i ventue back.... we have to have a good product on the field, but equally we need to entice and keep people ...

I would love a revamped Tuam, which would serve all Gaels both inside and outside the county

I like Tuam town. The people are friendly and the hotel serves up brilliant grub.

But the pitch itself was like going back into the 1930's. I was surprised I wasn't seeing it in black and white. In the end I was grateful I wasn't any taller because there is a serious lack of leg space.

I would also like to wish Down, from everyone in Galway and Armagh, all the very best against Loais.

Right so I imagine Monaghan are more or less certain to go up, they really should win at home to Galway so we'll put that in the sorted category. But would I be right in saying that Donegal will have to get something out of a tricky little away game to Armagh because if Down get a win against Laois (which I think they will) and Donegal lose to Armagh then it's another season in Division 2 for Donegal thanks to the head to head rule.

My money still says Monaghan (for sure) and Donegal (most probably) to go up, but hey guess what the Royal are still in with a chance aswell!! If we beat Louth by 19 points and Armagh beat Donegal by 19 points then we'd beat Donegal to promotion by a superior score difference of 1 whole point, haha if only.

Hatem...Donegal will also be promoted almost certainly just by Meath beating Louth. Unless you make up the score deferential then Donegal, Meath and Down all will be level with Donegal having the best scoring average

Pressure is off our lads now in Louth so we have nothing further to lose against Meath. Might even result in our first win of the season.

Ok but if Armagh beat yourselves, Louth gets a result and Down win then it's just Donegal and Down 9 points and would Down go up on the head to head rule?

Ps, I'm really only speaking hypothetically here because I fully expect Donegal to go up, Down have a decent outside chance while Meath have no chance.

The funny thing is that up until relatively recently I lived near Drumcondra so the more games we played in Croker the better it was for me!

A wee jaunt back to the capital might be a bit of craic. The publicans of McGraths, Quinns, The Big Tree and Phil Ryan's will most likey have the red carpet out for my return.

What I saw in Letterkenny sounded more like a team grinding it's gears rather than ticking over.

MuckrossHead, I'm not getting into a debate over who's better, but everyone knows that was a far cry from a proper Monaghan team in the Donegal game. If we both make it past the last round, a league final meeting would provide a better indicator. But in reality, the main league objective would be achieved by that stage, summertime is when it matters.

Monaghan are certainly a team on the up and two straight promotions would be some going. Based on our last championship meeting Monaghan are better - but you couldn't say that the Donegal team that played in the Ulster final was firing on all cylinders either?!
Also when Donegal won Ulster in 2011 and 2012 we won our QF and progressed further whereas Monaghan lost tamely enough to Tyrone last year. A wee bit less cockiness from Monaghan posters maybe - come back and brag once you've landed the big one.

Patk,

I'm only having a bit of fun. I know well that Monaghan weren't at full strength, but then Donegal were in the same boat last summer.
You're right though, promotion is the main thing & neither of us have achieved that yet.

Promotion is a forgone conclusion for both teams now. The league final will be like a championship game imo. Monaghan did not show their full hand in letterkenny, thats for sure. I still think we are good enough to beat them, at full strength and playing as well as we can.
