Huge gulf in class between division 1 and 2, we have seen it this year with westmeath

This is another game ,Donegal v Meath that I would like to see out of the way. We could win by ten points but one will do me. Meath could play out of their skins come Sunday and make it difficult for us. On all known form We should win but ,on the four games this weekend there could be a shock but I hope it's not us. I don't like to see this stuff about Donegal winning by at least 10 points. ME:::: I just wish we had the next two games over so we should have a better idea where we are going. I really fancied Donegal from the outset ,still do but we want to win Sunday to put us in good stead for the trip to the Mournes. I still think there's a few twists left in this leauge yet and with Galwat on zero and Louth on one that leaves very little between the other teams. One defeat can set you back a good bit in this Div.

Garymc82 do you give Kildare no chance of even making it to the Leinster Final seing as if both Meath and Kildare win their earlier matches they will meet in the Leinster Semi-Final?

Htaem,

you must have stopped reading prior to the last two paragraphs of my post, because your response, devilishly sarcastic and nerve-jangling though it may be, is rendered rather redundant by them. Your eyes (or brain) may have skipped the opening sentence too.

I think that has more to do with Westmeath than anything else. Donegal for one would be competitive in Div 1 this year.

No use trying to defend the indefensible, I read the entire post (not even sure why that was questioned) and oh sure you can sprinkle sugar over crap but it's still crap.

For example:

can I just challenge any other neutrals to read this thread from the start and not get a great kick out of Ard Mhacha's victory in Páirc Tailteann. When I saw the result, it was with great glee I came into work today, and when the opportunity arose, started reading some of the predictions in the days leading up to the match.

I mean that's quite sad to be honest, I have nothing against Kerry, infact I admire the Kingdom and always have but what true Kerryman would go into work "with great glee" only a day after his own county suffered a third straight defeat? You sir have got your priorities all over the place.

Oh ok, listen I apologise for supporting and having faith in my county, I won't do it again. Also I'm pleased that you're getting a kick out of our demise because there ain't a whole lot to smile about in the Kingdom at the minute.

Absolutely agree. It seems some would like us to wear sack cloth and ashes. I recall similar statements been made regarding Meath previously two years ago to be precise. But we went on to spank Kildare and come within a kick of a ball from beating dubs after concession of two soft goals
Forever r now is the time for calm heads and getting totally behind management. At years end we can better judge where mod is at . We don't need another heave situation.

What about Derry playing in Div 1 Are they not competitive or should they not be in Div 1???? I think Down,Donegal and Monaghan could be very competitive in Div 1.

I think we should lay off the Meath lads ,after all their getting a tough time as supporters I suspect a good few of them will head to Donegal on Sunday and it is proper to still come out to support your county, especially when the team are not going too well What we all must realise here is we must take the good times with the bad times. As the saying goes --- it is darkest before dawn.
I hope all Meath supportes get a good welcome in Donegal and have a good time. But don't be thinking about taking any points away with ye.

Well that's it royaldunne, I can't understand how someone would take such pleasure out of another county in a different division losing when their own county is on 0 points out of a possible 6, it's laughable.

Indeed htaem . Its laughable and says a lot more about themthan anything else. I can tell you today iI was not concerned one bit about Kerry, Kildare's or dubs loses. The only one that concerned me was meaths. I just can't understand some people. And definitely not reflective of vast majority of Kerry gaa people.

but Westmeath ARE a division 1 side. Are you saying that div 2 is stronger than Div 1 ?

I'm looking forward to heading to ballybofey wife and kids coming with me. We will spend the sat there then head to match. And I said all along that Meath could get a result in Donegal. And I'll stick by that. Sam you like a little bet. The best win I had over past few years was Meath v Kildare, we weren't given a hope. I was one of very few Meath posters who said we'd win and was belittled and told I knew nothing, a fair few lillys didn't appear for a long time :). So I'm stickingto my guns mMeath to rise like a Phoenix and win by a point .
but sure we'll have a good weekend regardless

Royaldunne you did indeed get the Kildare prediction right. However, for the last three years you have predicted a Meath win in every game they played. You were bound to get a couple right.
In Kildare v Meath games alone not counting this January , you have a success rate in predictions of about 16% ! Impressive.

Apologies Htaem you are right my phraseology was very coarse. I got the 'great kick' and experienced 'great glee' from the reading of some of the wildly inaccurate predictions preceding Saturday night. So the result was the indirect cause of that. But I wouldn't have cared if ye'd won by a million goals, had it not been the hubris, the delicious hubris!

I've nothing against your county's fortunes; I experienced identical feelings last April when a succession of Dubs and Lilywhites got carried away during the Leinster U-21 championship. Some of them were still arguing, about a fortnight after the AI final, that neither of them reached, that they were the two best counties at the level by some distance.

To prove I'm a masochist as well as a sadist, I felt a similiar emotion when reading back the thread on our Castlebar game on the CLG Chiarraí website. Posters 'expecting' a victory- away to the twice AI finalists, with no major injury issues, and tons more experience. It's the lack of respect for the opposition that irritates me- not so much the inflated self-opinion, though it is inherent in that. There are as many in my county but the local forum soaks them up to a great degree.

Having said that I'd like to amend my phrases to 'a bit of a kick' and 'a little glee'. Yes it is childish, I admit, but can you not agree, reading the thread back, that a handful of unfortunately unrealistic expectations emanated from your county, and bearing in mind the disproportion compared to similiarly ambitious claims from the other 7, and in the light of the downturn in results since Round 1, that it might be conceivable one might derive a little bit of black humour from it?

(And I know reading through the things it was a lot of posts from a small number of posters)

Please forgive my causing offence- your posts have always been balanced and agenda-free over the years. Anyway, I promise to give ye unqualified support next Sunday in Bealach Féich as penance!

PS You can't sting me by having a go at our fortunes I'm afraid I think our number's up! Hope I'm wrong but sure it's football, nobody dies...

My predictions for the outcome of division 2

Louth, Meath and Galway to have a relegation dogfight.

Galway have the players to stay up but are lacking desire? I watched them a few weeks ago and no doubt can do it if they click.
Louth I have not seen yet, but are surely going to struggle. Having said that I would not write them off yet on the back of 1 game. Should have beaten Armagh, so they have a team for sure.
Meath are going to struggle judging by their inability to get with the times. they should be doing a whole lot better, but they should thank themselves fortunate that they dont get promoted, as top flight football would dump them back into the second division pointless at the moment.

Armagh are improving rapidly and will stay up comfortably. they are gearing towords the championship and I would see them trying a few new players along the way.

Monaghan could get promoted, but they are going to be in a hell of a struggle to do it. Armagh could take the points against them judging on their performance in letterkenny at the weekend, as could a resurgant laois.

Laois are going to avoid the drop, and could be dark dark horses in leinster this year. Some turnaround in a few weeks. they were all over the place on day 1, but they have shown to have a team and a system.

Donegal will get promoted, but there are some interesting games in prospect. We should beat Meath at the weekend, but I dont think that there will be much between Armagh and ourselves in Armagh. I fancy down to take the points in newry, and to finish the campaign on top of the table.

Down, should get promoted, and win this competition. The reason? They are in the toughest side of the draw in ulster, having to go from the preliminary round v tyrone away and then will have to potentially play monaghan, cavan/armagh and possibly donegal or derry in the final. If they win ulster it will be the hardest road any team has ever had to go down to win it. That is why I fancy them to win division 2 as they will want to win at least something. We will see.
