I dont like the way this thread has gone.
Heroes alright for the most part. We all have good reasons for choosing our own.
But some of the guys put down as villians are nonsense. Just beacuse a guy played well against your county dosnt make him a villain. Smmacks of poor sportsman ship. I mean what was villainous about ja fallon or paraic joyce or lar corbett or even Joe Sheridan(sure that was Sludden's fault). There are plenty of dubious characters throughout the game that deserve the villain tag more and were involved in their fair share of off the ball incidents.

Heroes: DJ Carey, Brian Whelehan, Nicky English, Brian Corcoran
Villains: Ciaran 'not that type of player' Whelan, Redser Grady, Graham Geraghty
Local: Cant name them cos I know most of them - dont need any bigger heads

Indeed, someone chose Bernard Brogan, Kildare poster I think, must be to do with that free in '11, maybe he should have named the ref of the guy who fouled him :D

JP you make some excellent points , but then ruin it all by saying Graham geraghty is a villain. I've talked to many a player who has played with him and marked him and not one of them has said a bad word about gg, yeah he'd hit you hard in the tackle and give 110% in every game, I had the pleasure of working with him at my club a few years ago and tbh he is a very shy reserved man who has a love and knowledge of Gaelic football that is unmatched by anyone I know apart from sean boylan. Gg is perhaps the greatest all round footballer of the modern era,

Ah sure he's not the worst royaldunne, had my 1st pint after the '11 AI Final with him, he told me he was delighted Dublin had won, no wonder he went into politics :D

Heroes , so many. Graham geraghty, Trevor Giles, Darren fay, john mcMcDermott, Robbie o malley , Gerry mcentee , and on and on. But the 2 stand out players jack Quinn and player of the millennium the great unequalled martin O'Connell.

Villains , Pauric Joyce, Larry Tompkins, Jimmy keaveney ,

My own county heroes . I'll leave this at just one the greatest manager that there has ever been or ever will be, the undisputed god of football. Sean Boylan. It could be no one else.

Ha ha, the only thing not right with that is you didn't put Meath lads in as the villains. Cause you put Meath lads in for everything else!
No heros from outside Meath then?

For me:
Heros - Tomás OSé, John Egan, Paudie, Jacko, Colm Cooper, Maurice Fitz, MF Russell, The Pony, Colm O'Rourke, Matt Connor, Martin O'Connell, Geraghty (player) Sean Cavanagh, PTG, Stevie from Killeavy, Ronan Clarke, Geeser (as a player), Mugsy, Paul Galvin (as a player), Noelie O'Leary, Canty, John Galvin, Eamonn O'Hara (player), Tommy Freeman, Declan Browne, Mattie Forde, Vinny Claffey, Stephan Whyte, Ger Heavin, Gary Connaughton, John Doyle, Dermot Earleys Snr & Jnr, Joe Kernan, Frank McGuigan, Eugene McKenna, Plunkett Donaghy, Padraic Joyce, Ja Fallon, Michael Donnellan, Cíaran McDonald, Willie Joe Padden, Michael Murphy, Tony Boyle, Henry Downey, Joe Brolly, Nudie Hughes, Kevin O'Brien, Seamus Clancy (Clare), Mickey Quinn, Barry Owens, Mickey Linden, Wee James McCartan, Greg Blaney, Niall Cahalane, Conor Counihan.

Villains: Conor Gormley, Kieran Donaghy, Tadgh Kennelly, Greg McCartan and the other Down lad who dive-bombed in front of the Hill at the end of the 1994 final (we will get revenge for that lads, it's not yet forgotten!), Dinny Allen, Andy Moran, Ollie Murphy, Kevin Foley, Seamus Aldridge, and whoever was the ref in the 1985 final.

Local Heros:
Too many. Apart from the very obvious, Mick Holden, Mick Kennedy, Eamonn Heery, Paddy Moran, Dermot Deasy, Jack Sheedy, Vinnie, Whelo, Collie Moran, Paddy Christie, Coman Goggins, David Henry, Shane Ryan, and if I had to pick one obvious player from the modern era it would be Al Brogan.

To be honest, how anyone can claim that padraig joyce is a villain is beyond me. A genuinely great footballer who gave everything he had for his county for as long as he could. If that makes him a villain then Id rather be a villain any day.

Capatilist,

You must have been a defender by the look of that list you have drawn up!

Hero's: Ciaran Carey, DJ Carey, (can I say Nuala Carey to keep the name going?), Jamesie O'Connor, John Power, Henry Shefflin, Brian Corcoran, The Dooley's, Brian Whelehan, and the load of hurlers who hurled their lives for unfashionable counties, e.g. Nicky Horan of Meath.
Villains: Davy Fitz, Ger Loughnane, Martin Sludden....how has he not got a mention? I would have to say Eamon Morrissey and DJ also as both broke my heart in 1991 and 1993.
Own County: Liam Dunne, Martin Quigley, Adrian Fenlon, Willie Murphy.
