What's more endearing to the hardcore G A A fans who follow the teams up and down the country a half full new stadium after the initial honeymoon period is over or a packed to the rafters parnell with the fans feet away from the players and action? The atmosphere at those games from both players and supporters is special and memorable and in my opinion what the G A A is beginning to loose. We're talking about scale here Richie. Are you seriously suggesting that Dublin could partner with a club or college to build a 30000 seater stadium because that's what would be required? There are only a handful of grounds across all sports in this country that could handle that capacity so not an option. Regarding Dublin's league matches, are not some counties switching their games to CP to play Dublin under the lights in the league given the opportunity? Again not the DCB's fault. Dublin have no alternative but to play in CP at the moment given capacity requirements. There is no sensible alternative at present. I'm going to have my final say on this, it is the fault of the Dublin County Board in my view that they have no decent sized ground of their own and I believe they are quite happy not to have as they have the use of Croke Park as they see fit. I didn't mention a 30'000 capacity stadium and I certainly didn't mention all seater, Dublin's league attendances have not been stellar except for the specialised 125 celebrations and the floodlight turn on, I fail to see the sense, logic or reasoning for playing "home" league games in a stadium with an 83'000 capacity, why did Dublin never develop a ground of any sort, prior to redevelopment Parnell Park was nowhere near being the third cousin of a county ground so it can't be claimed that it was ever suitable. If other counties are applying to play Dublin in Croke Park it's the first I've heard of it and I would see that as detremental, I have already spoke about the financial implications of such moves, there is a lot of tradition and pride that goes with county grounds, despite its poor condition I love Pairc Tailteann and would be sick to my gut if we ever moved anywhere else, same for Cork in their Pairc and Kerry in Killarney, the Cats wax lyrical about Nowlan Park as do Offaly with O'Connor Park etc perhaps the Dub football supporter doesnt have a full understanding of that as Parnell Park has never really continuously been the home of the Dublin football team. Dublin have no alternative, well in all fairness whos fault is that?? In the near 130 year existence of the GAA there hasn't been a suitable home for Dublin GAA, their footballers anyway, I'd love to know how the hurlers feel about all this, that their Trojan efforts don't get the same support and that the Spring Series doesn't really concern them sure its all about the footballers really, the Neller will do the great unwashed with sticks in their hands just fine, what's being done to promote crowds at their games this year?? The footballers might have Jedward, Brush Shields or Damien Dempsey rocking at half time in Croker, the hurlers might have Declan Nerney with a squeeze box at the dressing room door, they prefer it in Parnell Park I believe and I don't blame them there's more a scent of honesty and dedication about it, I mightn't be that excessively old but I'm old school in my thinking that's the way I am it won't change and I tend to say it as I see it, the Dubs should have a fit for purpose home of their own to enjoy and make a fortress and they should have had it long before now, it's their supported loss that they don't superbluedub (Dublin) - Posts: 2843 - 11/12/2013 21:48:03 1522832 Link 0 |
So what you are saying is Dublin should build a new stadium to cater for league matches and possibly Leinster 1st round championship matches? Ignore the fact that there is an 82,000 capacity stadium that belongs to the GAA right on our doorstep and go ahead and spend millions on a stadium that might get one championship game all year? Doesn't make any financial sense whatsoever. bubba83 (Dublin) - Posts: 333 - 12/12/2013 08:50:59 1522841 Link 0 |

Also, it says it all when a meath poster makes such an issue of this and about a perceived advantage to Dublin playing so many games there. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3748 - 12/12/2013 15:10:08 1523068 Link 0 |
Well I dont know if you have difficulty in reading or understanding or whatever, but you are the only meath poster still going on about it and choosing to ignore other posts directed to you... Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4279 - 12/12/2013 16:26:25 1523108 Link 0 |
