TheMater Actually, the above proves what I have been saying. Mayo spending 33% more over 5 months than cavan spent over 3 months,
Quite a difficult concept this comparing like with like but let's give it a go shall we???
Cavan played 7 games in this year's Championship compared to Mayo's 6. Mayo did have to travel to Dublin on 3 occasions compared to Cavan's 2 but Mayo's only other journey was to Galway while Cavan travelled to Fermanagh, Derry and Monaghan as well as 2 trips to Dublin.
In the league Mayo played one home game more than Cavan, with two trips to Dublin, one to Cork and one to Down. Cavan had away games in Antrim, Meath, Sligo and Wicklow.
Then the divergence starts as the €650k Mayo spend was on the Senior men's team only while Cavan's €500k spend was on all inter-county teams including U14 development squad, U16 Manning Cup & Gerry O'Reilly tournament, Ulster Minor League and Championship, Ulster U21 Championship with an All-Ireland semi-final trip to Tullamore and the Ladies Intermediate championship win with two trips to Croke Park.
So I can't see where you get 33% more - I'd expect Mayo's spend is at least 80% more than Cavan's spend on the Senior men's team.
The only facts and figures for 2013 that matter are :
Dublin Number 1.
Clare Number 1.
Congratulations to both and their supporters.
Talking about cash spent for senior teams, home advantages for more league matches are avoiding real issues.
For me Mayo need a few more and better quality players but more importantly they need to look and learn from Dublin, Kerry and Tyrone over the last 10 years on how to close out the biggest games.
Money, home advantage, a great strength and conditioning program won't give them that but the negative energy of a few more rounds of coulda, woulda, shoulda will definitely not help.

I absolutely agree 100% with this stance.
Well said
Couldn't give a fig what Mayo spends... but there's some who love to play the poor mouth while ignoring their own massive advantages.
No time for such loud mouth hypocrites but thankfully they are easily exposed for all to see.
jimbodub - You keep rising to Masters bait. Ignore him if you think what he say's is rubbish and save yourself all the agro. Yet again another thread turned into a slagging post.
On the issue itself, I don't care that we have more money to spend than other counties and that other counties have more money to spend than us. Smaller counties/teams/clubs will also have a smalling playing population. Sport is not always fair, it has always been that way and always will.
Would Michael Duignan not be better approaching the Mayo County Board for financial help for Ballinamere/Durrow instead of the Offally clubs? With all their millions could they not help out this Junior Hurling club trying to make the long and arduous trip to far away London?
