1521971 It's always good to hear counties are in surplus instead of the other was around.

Well done to Mayo.

Very true.

It does raise serious questions though in fairness. With these types of sums available to Mayo football will the rest of us be able to compete?

How long will it take for Mayo turn this advantage into a massive decades long domination leaving the rest of us fighting over scraps.......;)

Dare I say it..........is it time to split Mayo?

It would make quite a swing in two years:

Doesn't make sense does it?

The money spent by the likes of Dublin,Mayo is something the smaller counties like ourselves could only dream of and its no surprise when Dublin,Mayo weren't spending big they weren't as successful.

I think people are over reacting to a misreading of the article. The closing balance of €13 million is simply the figure at the end of the balance sheet which comprises of assets and liabilities. As in the value of property owned by the Co. Board as well as the total figure of debt they owe. Included in the balance sheet is the profit for the year which is an asset or if the they are in debt then that figure is a liability. Therefore the Mayo County Board do not have €13 million to spend as they wish.

Of course they don't have 13 mill in the bank

Mayo are up to their necks in debt...

It's the spending 650,000 on one team that's the real story

Massive spend compared to others in Connacht and almost everyone else in Ireland

Right up there with the big boys...

Maybe Dublin / Cork being the only counties to perhaps pay more?

Yet you never say a word about Cork, hardly because you have an issue with Mayo. Or say you might say yourself Speaks volumes about the true intentions of certain posters and their own hypocritical and disingenuous points of view

1521937 i read there team holiday to Florida cost 150,000. If you bring say 30 people that's 5 grand each, some holiday.

Don't forget all the singers and their backing bands who wrote all them songs about winning Sam , they were probably on the junket.

Moomoo(?) Your post is off topic. The thread is about Mayo, not Dublin or Cork. The Master is the one banging on about unfair advantages etc. week in, week out and now the shoe is on the other foot. How can the other counties in the province compete with that kind of spending power. It's a credit to the likes of Roscommon, Sligo or Leitrim that there able to motivate their young men to even bother put on a county jersey when there up against that kind of clout. 21.5k per man. Definitely time to look at splitting Mayo in two.(at least)

Imagine the Dubs getting 21.5 k per man. 150k team holiday The master and moomoo would be salvating reading it.
now whats their reaction because its MAYO,
the Master wants to see all other county boards finances and Moomoo surprise surprise has a go at the Dubs.
Well moomoo what do you think of the inequalities in Connaught, if you think leinster is bad surely Mayo have a huge advantage in Connaught
no doubt you wont answer the question, because unless its the Dubs you don't have an opinion.

Jimbo has raised some salient points there that certain posters should take the time to address, or to phrase it another way, either put up or shut up.

1521871 I would say that it could be the balance sheet total, which should include all assets and liabilities. This would include land, buildings etc. It might even just be the total of their assets as I am pretty sure they would have a lot of loans on the books also. I would be amazed if they had cash reserves anywhere near this.

_____

I doubt that is the case. I know this as fact for clubs, and think it is the same for counties, that the treasurer does not prepare a balance sheet. The treasurer only prepares a list of income and expenditure and a bank reconciliation. This would suggest that this is the balancxe sitting in the bank account!

Ha, please...
You know, the indignation doesnt really work when A) your own county spent even more, and B) you point blank refuse to state what they spent...
At least the mayo lads are honest enough to state what they spent and what they have in the bank. Let everyone else be as honest, then they can criticise...

Just for again jimbo and co...

Master, your side-stepping the issue. One simple question. Is your obvious financial clout fair on the other provincial counties?

Brend I dont believe he has. Every point he makes is about mayo in terms of connacht, and specifically leitrim. How about mayo in terms of the rest of the country? Surely that is the correct mode for comparison, and not this false scale that he is forcing onto mayo and nobody else. It is akin to the multi-millionaire on your street telling people that you with a steady middle of the road job are really well off because you have more money than the poorest soul in the village... In other words, garbage. The reality is he is trying to paint mayo as the exception, when in fact mayo are smack bang in with everyone else, and it is dublin adn leitrim who are the exceptions at either end. Why would a county right in the middle be tasked with sorting out a county right at the bottom, when there is a county so far out in front that they could bring leitrim up to average levels 10 times over and still lead the way themselves? I didnt think you could be fooled so easily.

Very much enjoying Master's new take on all things financial. We have to look at everyone's accounts and expenditure's now before demanding they be split/give all their money away…………….

This wasn't necessary before though. All he needed was his opinion rather than actual figures he craves now for fair analysis….

The master

Dublin have more money as they need it to cater foe having more clubs and more people.
Mayo probably actually have more per person though considering they don't have the same playing numbers or amount of clubs to cater for.so if you feel Dublin should spread money would that not mean mayo should too.
Each county are part of provincial councils that's why mayo and Leitrim are being mentioned as they are both Connaughtcouncil ccounty's so stop ignoring something this time last week you were trying to advocate but now when its your own county you say the opposite.
For the record I don't think mayo should hand over any money if a county runs its ship correctly they should not be punished for it just like dublin
