Can Mayo win the All Ireland in 2014?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Honest answer, I think they have a good a chance as any of the serious contenders.
If they are`to get over the line they need a few new quality fowards are`they in Mayo I'm not sure. Kevin O Loughlin is a class player didnt have a great AI Keith Higgins a brilliant player not a foward has to go back to defence.Alan Dillon gone past it would be a good sub to bring on.Cillian O Connor should not have started wasnt ready Alan Freeman not good enough Andy Moran good sub to bring on.
Like to hear from the Mayo posters Would Richie Feeney be a good fit at center foward
who would be best suited to the full foward position any emerging talent in the Castlebar Mitchells

Yes.

People talk about lacking forwards, but history shows that to be inaccurate. How many forwards did donegal have? How many forwards did tyrone have? We should know by now that there is more than 1 way to do things.

Yes Mayo could win it, so could Dublin, Kerry, Cork, Tyrone, Donegal and maybe even one or two others :D

Any team that can't score a point from play in 40 minutes is not going to win an All Ireland.

How many forwards did donegal have?

I would say that Donegal had 2 marquee forwards that Mayo just didn't have in Murphy and McFadden. There was very little between the sides except the aforementioned players and they got the scores on the day that proved decisive. Similarly, last September, Bernard Brogan stepped up as the marquee player on the day. I just feel Mayo are missing that.

SAM is in the bag already for Dublin lads.

To be honest, I think that this year was a golden opportunity missed. Kerry will have Tommy Walsh back, which will provide another dimension to their attack. The Dubs, of course, are All-Ireland champions and have the strongest squad in the championship, while Donegal and Tyrone will be back with avengeance after last year's defeats to Mayo.

There are already noises from the Mayo camp that this was a particularly tough defeat to take. As regards Castlebar Mitchels, they have some good young players coming though in the forwards such as Tom King, Neil Douglas et al, but I don't think they have any top-quality inter-county forwards yet. Much as I'd love to see my old club win the Andy Merrigan Cup, I think that any of the other provincial winners will start as favourites against them.

Agree with you about Richie Feeney though, can never understand why he doesn't start more games for Mayo than he does, particularly given his versatility.

Of course they can.

They have the players just need to be a bit more savy on the line and better able to adapt when things go against them imo.

Defo good enough. Don't buy it really that they need better or marque forwards. The lads they have are good enough imo.

They have a great chance to be fair.

Gonna be difficult for the Dubs to retain it, Cork will struggle with their exodus of players, so that leaves Kerry, Donegal and Tyrone as their other main contenders.

But it will be very tough for Mayo after the past 2 seasons defeats.

No one will begrudge them if it hapens though and they finally claim Sam.

If they can tighten up their defense, then, yes, Mayo can win the All-Ireland.

I'd be delighted to see it happen.

I have a feeling this thread will descend into a slagging match between the usual few posters.

Can we win it? Yes. Will we win it? Doubtful. We should be knocking around All Ireland quarter final weekend and after that I don't know. Funny enough I think we should go out to win the League. Get a bit of national silverwear under your belt can do wonders for team and supporter morale, especially after the disappointment of the past two years.

I have always gone along with the fact that you need a class forward or two and and kick from play but we had no problem from scoring all over the field last year knocking up big scores. Maybe a more battle hardened route would suit us better next year. It's possible.

Of Course Mayo can but I doubt it somehow. Lacking something, be it marquee forwards/bottle/belief, I'm not sure but still lacking.

Sure there's a curse on them poor fellas. The next Connacht winner to win Sam will be Galway again after all the bottling Mayo has done. History often repeats itself.

Yes, bad as it losing an all Ireland by a point, it's way more encouraging than the hammerings they were prone to getting
