redhanddefender I was fairly pleased to see how Coney performed last night. At 24 yrs old I don't think its fair to be writing him off like that.If he hadn't scored last night you might get away with that but he got 0-05 man.Give the lad a chance I say.I would agree that he took a few hit and hope pops when it might have been better to hold it up or pass to another player but that comes with more match experience.

Kyle Coney was impressive last night; and, as one of the
lads says if he gets game time he will impress.
When Kyle Coney arrives on the big stage (and he will
arrive), people within and without the county will take
notice. There has been too much negativity directed at him
from certain quarters!
Good performance by Tyrone last night, onward and upward!
Total faith,
Tir Eoghain abu.

Hes isn't up to it and doesn't have the required commitment in my opinion. I think a year for his club to prove himself would make him or break him. You get injured alot more if you don't look after yourself.

With Kyle Coney, Darren McCurry, R O'Neill and other new forwards all impressing in big games lately and putting on excellent displays, could Stephen O'Neill find himself sitting on the bench a lot more?

By the way regards kyle coney, its a case of here we go again. He scored 5 points in a mc kenna cup final and people jumping up and down saying whats going to come from him. He has shown nothing yet to make me change my opinion. I was at the game and fair enough he is only back from injury "again" but he couldn't make runs in the second half. As I said a year with his club make him show a bit of bite and fight for his place back in.

You can add Connor McAliskey and Mattie Donnelly to that list.

I look at Stevie O'Neill the same way that I look at Justin McMahon. Both are brilliant footballers, but both have been cursed with injuries throughout their career. I wouldn't be counting on either of them to be fit and available this summer, and would put neither of them under any pressure to do full training with the squad. Let them do what works for themselves and, if they are in decent shape come July/August, then they'd been seen as a great bonus. But as for counting on them or eagerly awaiting a return, well, history would say suggest that is being too optimistic.

What the McKenna Cup and the league have shown so far is if there has to be a choice between the younger player and the older player give youth it's chance. McAliskey, Donnelly, McCurry, O'Neill, Coney etc will improve with games. It is also good to know that Tyrone could have a bench with the likes of Stevie O'Neill, the McMahon's, Gormley etc to bring on later in the game. As the experts say it's vital to have a strong bench with experience.
