All-Ireland club hurling championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Carlow reps Mount Leinster Rangers are good value to beat Castletown Geog this weekend. A much more experienced side than their Westmeath counterparts who just claimed their first county title in nine years. MLR won the all ireland intermediate in 2011 and competed at this level last year, knocked out at the quarter-final stages by eventual all ireland champions Kilcormac-Killoughey 1-11 to 0-9.

Any opinions?

Well done to my old teacher Mick Purcell on leading Clara to the Kilkenny championship. This after a few Carlow titles with Mount Leinster Rangers. Great to see him doing well. Good man Mick!!

I would fancy them yes. apparently an excellent team by all standards excellent hurlers & able to compete with the best. i beleive if they could win sunday they have a home semi final BUT a trip to mullingar is never easy and westmeath hurling isnt that bad with the great clonkill team up there the last few years always challeging. For me though Mount Leinster Rangers are a dark horse.

Be no surprise to me if Mount Leinster won the Leinster. An all Ireland might be a big ask though

6/5 for MLR is bet of the year. They will easily win that game on Sunday, and as said above do fancy a good crack at winning Leinster this year. Very good side and ran last years AI finalists very close last year.

I read Clara won the Kilkenny Intermediate championship just last year! So did Mt. Leinster Rangers beat them in Leinster championship???

By the way fair play to Slaughneils from Derry on there showing in the Ulster club final. I thought they had it won. They would have given most teams in Ireland a go judging by that performance.

Best wishes to them for the future

Can Celbridge win Leinster this year? Up against Kilkenny's Rower Inistioge, any information on them? Meath champions Kilmessan meet Buffers Alley in the other semi final.

Can't see Portumna doing it this year. Too many lads the wrong side of 30 and 3 the wrong side of 35. My money on a Leinster or Munster winner.

They probably can but they have basically underachieved in leinster until now.

True Gallimh but they are a very experienced team and probably the most experienced team left in it (Loughgiel the only others that have "been there done that" afaik). I fancied the Tipp champs this year and they are already knocked out! Munster looks quite open and whatever team comes through will be hard beaten. I havent been overly impressed by Portumna this year and in the couple of games I've seen Joe play (including the county final) I thought he was ordinary enough by his standards but if he reaches the heights that he can they will be very hard to stop as well.

Castletown Geoghegan have some very good hurlers.
Should be more than capable of beating Carlow champs.

Very True
Very Little has been said about Castletown Geoghegan in fairness. They have some excellent young players the likes of O`Brien, Clarkes, Glennon, the two Fennells and Varley etc. They could be waiting in the long grass as it were to ambush MLR. I have tipped Mount Leinster Rangers for provincial glory but they have to negotiate this hurdle first, and if Castletown do take their scalp whos to say Castletown wont have a shot of Provincial glory either. The Leinster Championship is very tight, very little between any of the teams in it.

Some of ye are writing Kilcormac off too quickly, they were unlucky to lose the final this year, they will come out of Leinster and have as good a chance as anyone after that.

I think everyone is writing Oulart off and it is probably a blessing in disguise. Having said that, a vomiting bug up there this week wont help them.
