Joe Canning was very lucky to stay on after that wild pull. I wonder if anyone else did the same would it be a yellow card as well??

One law and all that. NaP were cat with the wind, tough playing a team who fell every time they came into contact.

Comming from a Galway person,I though the same about that pull from Joe Canning! Hes lucky! And the commentators on Galway Bay Fm thought it was a harsh yellow card?? And they felt that it should have been a free for joe not against him?! I dont know what they were lookijng at!

Delighted for MLR. No offence to Portumna but I think all of us neutrals will be shouting for the Carlow side now.

Maybe a certain Cork County Board delegate might be willing to admit that 'Jedward' have just given 'Pavorotti' an almighty lesson? When was the last time a Cork club played at this std?

Well done MLR - no complaints - they were the more physical and hungery side, and were always in front,

very silly of theLoughguille player to get sent off , just when they were awarded a free in, No 14 from MLR should have walked also,

another point, great crowd in Newry, unlike Thurles which looks empty....

so this weekend i've been to 2 games in desperate conditions, where do go tomorrow!!!!!!

Go to Clones: Monaghan v Meath!

what is it with Limk teams winning Munster and then getting beaten by Galway teams anyway no complaints better team on a terrible day won.Anyone who writes off MLR in the final needs their heads examined i think they've a great chance and might even go as far as i'd fancy them to win it out

Portumna will be favourites but I doubt that will bother MLR.

While i won't go as far as saying what Canning did was right, i don't think he was far wrong either. If you're going to be pulling and jumping on top of a man like NP player was then it's inevitable you're going to get a belt back. Give back what you get. Thought the NP backs were excellent for about the first 45 mins and then faded a bit. Portumna's backs were poor enough in the first half with their clearances and relied heavily on both the Canning's. Don't think MLR should have any huge worries, stop Joe and they'll win an All-Ireland.

The Joe Canning pull was a straight red offence

What game r u talking about rebel. The port backs were sticking hurls in Na P forwards especially at start of game. Should the Na P forwards have given back what they got ? Would they have stayed on the field? Doubt it.

Yes they probably should have. Don't turn this into a me vs NP case(actually wanted them to win), i'm commenting on an individual incident .There seems to be a real problem in hurling about refs not being consistent about pulling (e.g the Liam Rushe case). If they'e not going to protect players from pulling and dragging than i'eve no problem with the players protecting themselves, no matter what the sport you can't let yourself be walked over (especially if your a target like Canning is). People can say 'oh he only wants hurling to go back to the dark ages' but i don't know a single sport where you'd get away with the amount of sneaky fouling that goes on in hurling without A) getting some sort of free or B) getting a lot worse off a player than what Joe did.

Credit to all 4 teams for serving up two great games in dire conditions

Delighted for MLR savage display from them hope they go on and win it now though that's a big ask against Portumna. Who by the way should have been down to 14 men after Cannings pull

The 13 for Portumna had a fine game and the display of sideline cuts was terrific. Again just a shame that the players are expected to perform in those conditions

The Junior hurling final between creggan and ballysaggert was an amazing game, with skill levels well above junior level. Creggan were behind by eleven points at start of second half and looked dead and buried but got stuck in and forced extra time. they then went three up twice in this period only for saggert to score goals to level up, with the decisive second goal on the full time whistle. all still to play for but what an advertisement for hurling.

Creggan Kickhams 2-21 Ballysaggert 5-12

What Liam Rushe did? What about Shane O'Neill twice? Joe was a lucky man today. Being a target is no excuse. He really ought to take a leaf out of Shefflin's book - even a bigger target for a lot longer than Joe. Joe is very lucky to be heading to Croke Park. If only Galway could replicate the club success at county level.

Frankbhoy tks for the mini report. Well done Cregan. It v exciting for real hurling ppl to see strides clubs like MLR and Cregan are making and I think half Cregan team are U 21. Really makes one feel there is hope for the old game yet. Best of luck the next day

My point rebel is if NA p forwards retaliated in a similar manner they would receive a straight red. This is not about what u have no problem with. You don't get to make up the rules of hurling. The rules state that striking with a hurl is an offence punishable by red.

If the Joe Canning incident was a red, then so was the nasty chop down by the Limerick defender when Ollie Canning was going through late in the second half. Na Piarsaigh got a lot of soft frees in the first half to keep them in it and apart from a needless penalty conceded and some poor wides, Port dominated the second half and should have won by more than the 4 points at the end.

I might not be able to make the rules but i'm aloud to make my own opinion. Haven't said for a second he shouldn't have seen red, as pointed out above there was a much more dangerous pull on Ollie Canning. The rules also state that if someone is purposely fouling you then the whistle should be blown .That didn't (and doesn't) happen, wonder would it if it had been a NP player? Do we expect players just to stand there and take it while the ref doesn't do anything? I certainly don't.

Soft frees tommy is another joke Hayes got a free cos he laid down after a shoulder ( that experience for ya) from d Breen early in second half. It was an appaling night n for anyone to say the other team got softe frees shows a serious bias.

Ollie is a cute fox. He was always clever playing corner back and when the pressure came on he would hold onto the opponent. He always made it look like he was been fouled when in fact he was the one fouling. Looking at the game yesterday he has brought this cuteness up to the forward division. Hayes is a class act at it too. Gets the ball, runs straight at the opponent and falls down. It takes years and more luck to then if they get away with it.

On the Joe foul - it was completely OFF the ball - a nasty pull across the player - no questions, no excuses - he should have walked. Anybody who says otherwise is just in denial. With regards to Joe's performance - any county team will be pleased to see him roam around out the field. I wonder has he lost his confidence as he doesn't appear to want to take on full backs anymore. Perhaps his loss of bulk is hindering him. Anthony Cunningham was condemned for playing him out field. Yet here is his very own club allowing him to do the very same. The only conclusion is that Joe himself wants to be out roaming around.
