1499633 Anyone who has watched Mayo this year will understand the absurdity of a Team of the Year with Tom Cunniffe and no Aidan O Shea. This thread has descended to farce. For the record- MDMA and the aforementioned O'Shea by a head from his brother. Cavanagh couldn't be described as having played midfield this year.

Ah sure just let roundy pick the team and be done with it so :)

Right.

1. Cluxton
2. C.Barrett
3.
4. C. Walshe
5. L. Keegan
6. C. Boyle
7. J. McCarthy
8.A. O'Shea
9 MD McAuley
10. P. Flynn
11. C. Cooper
12. S. Cavanagh
13. C. O'Connor
14. B. Brogan
15. J. O'Donoghue (just squeezes out your own Martin Reilly)

POTY- MDMA
YPOTY- P. Mannion

7 awards for Dublin, 5 for Mayo, 2 for Kerry, 1 each for Tyrone and Monaghan. I'll let ye pick a full back cos I'm being generous and don't think there's much between ROC, Caff, Wylie and R. Dunne.

Any complaints?

MDMC and Sean Cavanagh two men who know how to bring their teams over the line ,AND WILL GO TO WAR in the big games and when it matters.
A O S for the nice odd man of the match performance , but will goes M.I.A. in finals unfortunetly.

I meant to say Robbie Hennelly for I thought Cluxton was very poor vs Kerry,, Hennelly was good all year. Seamus O'Sea was brilliant this year so I'd put him in there instead of Aidan.. What ye think???

Sorry there (ROUNDBALL) I don't under stand why you would have Jack McCaffrey and O'Connor in the team of the YEAR and then say Paul Mannion was YOUNG PLYER OF THE (YEAR) Paul Mannion must be your coisin or something because i'm a mayo man and i can clearly see that Jack McCaffrey was young player of the year you mustn't understand What a Player of the year means. Or do yeah???

this is some fall from grace for AOS lads! the day before the AIF he was 4/5 to win POTY now he is not even getting in a team of the year!!

More an indication of what actually motivates these selections and how easily they can be swayed. The favourite for player of the year going into the final, having a quiet final while not really doing anything wrong (a bit like sean cavanagh in the semi final and mdmc in the meath game) is somehow removed from the running totally. If he had the exact same game and mayo had won, he would be nailed on in 90% of selections.

Aidan O Shea had a poor semi final and a very poor final. His brother was outstanding in both games. Not rocket science.

The final is the biggest game in the Gaa calendar you don't play well in that you don't deserve poty awards.

That's James McCarthy in the Team of the Year not McCaffrey. Very little between Mannion and McCaffrey in my view and their claim to YPOTY are stronger than O'Connor's on the grounds that it's their debut season versus his third. Permission granted to give it to McCaffrey if you so wish, most of the rest of it is non-negotiable I'm afraid.

Debatable. Seamus was very good in the final and semi. However to say Aidan was poor is unfair. He has an understanding of pivotal moments in games that is vital to Mayo. His fetch and assist for his brothers point from the kickout directly after Brogan's goal was the stuff that makes midfielders All Stars.

No Dublin forwards from a team averaging 3 goals a game in championship and league? You' ve got to be joking. Bernard and Flynner should be in there for starters with strong shouts for Connolly and Mannion surely.

Keith Higgins at no 12?? What next? Another term in office for FG??
People will eventually see that while Keith Higgins is an outstanding, consistent and versatile player, his best position is centre back. This is where he plays his club football and his best football. Since mayo have no proper centre back it is incredible that he is not the county regular no 6. As Mc Stay put it: if only we could photocopy Keith Higgins.
Mayo and Ireland's outstanding player

The problem with Keith Higgins and why he doesn't get the recognition he deserves is because he is always so consistently good. The last 6/7 years he has been one of the best players in the country. When players like Aiden O Shea have one good game they get more recognition. None of the players going for young player of the year performed when it mattered, but o Connor did end up as top scorer after playing only a handful of games so I give it to him. MDMC gets my vote for senior as he always puts in a great shift but I feel if mayo put someone like Vaughan on him in the final who would have has the pace and power to match him to win those well placed kick outs it could of been a different story.

This dublin team deserved there all Ireland and the players seem like a decent bunch, no show boating like certain players have done in the past. Sorry about Andy Moran's celebration after he scored the goal, embarrassing stuff. I believe Dublin will put back to back all Ireland's. Mayo need new forwards, just not good enough to be honest.
