Was it Saturdays replay? Some spectacle but was it the best ever?

It was one of the most exciting ever but some of Corks first touch & catching were poor.
Still think Tipp v KK in 2009 & 2010 were better in terms of intensity & standard of Hurling.

I'm not one for ranking games as better or worse but that game on Saturday is defo up there with the best that I have seen.

Other great games for me were, in no particular order; Waterford v Cork Munster Final 2004, Galway v Kilkenny Semi-Final 2005, Galway v Kilkenny Semi-Final 2001, Wexford v Kilkenny Leinster Semi 2004, Kilkenny v Tipp All-Ireland Final 2009, Cork v Wexford Semi-final 2003, Clare v Cork Semi-Final 2006.

Its certainly up there amonst the best for excitement anyway. As someone alluded to up above Cork struggles to lift and catch the ball at time. Clare looked much sharper in that department.

The atmosphere was electric though. Although I didn't notice at the time, I thought the ref gave Cronin a few handy frees during the game. Its an exciting Clare team and hopefully they'll be around for years to come.

Hurling is on the up no doubt. In reality theres 5 in Munster and three in Leinster who could come out on top over the next few years. I'd love to see Offaly and Wexford get back to where they were in the 80s/90s - the more the merrier.

Further deveopment into the counties like Antrim, Down, Derry and Laois along with throwing a few quid into Kildare, Kerry, Westmeath and we could potentially be looking at a 17/18 team championship. Utopia I know but no harm in striving to achieve something like that.

Amazing game, i agree about 2009 and 2010 being gteat too,but i enjoyed this one more.maybe the drawn game was better, more exciting at the end, it looked as if cork could have won it more than saturdays game. I womder will people start slating it for "poor defending" like the Dublin-Kerry match. These matches just have to be enjoyed as they are without nitpicking

For me, this was and still is the greatest All-Ireland ever. It was thrilling stuff on Saturday but the standard of defending I thought on Saturday was dreadful for many of the goals. I guarantee you Donnellan wouldnt have been let solo run the length of the field if he was meeting Hogan, Delaney, Walsh and Tyrrell in their prime.

So in terms of excitement that was great, but standard of hurling and defending in particular I think not. But hey, it wont matter a hoot to Clare and rightly so!

Thought the first game was better in terms of overall quality. Cork never looked like winning the replay.

Hopefully Mickey Harte can step in and pour cold water on any such talk....

I mean some of the defending was very poor at times

The "art of defending" went out the window... but hey yeah it was a good game

Great spectacle and wonderful ad especially if it was used to promote abroad!

First and foremost we should be promoting in Ireland.

It was a cracking game but agree there were some basic errors and acres of space given at times. So for me no its not its behind the Kilkenny v Tipp games of 09 and 10

In my opinion it is one of the greatest ever, it's up there with Offaly and limerick in 94 and Offaly and Antrim semi in 89.

Best final I was ever at was Cats/Tipp in 2009. Most enjoyable finals I've ever seen - not at them unfortunatley - were the drawn game and replay.

Some people questioning the defending on show. Both teams were packing the midfield which left acres of space inside where it was often 2 backs V 2 forwards. If a forward wins the ball in this scenario it's VERY difficult to defend against.

Oh yes it was...you cant blame the defences against the constant relentless attacking play and true pace speed and skill.

+1. super game. people are too quick to say the greatest ever about everything these days. well the final on saturday, as good as it was, didnt have me on the edge of my seat like that cork v wexford game in 2003

Fair enough, Cork's defence was poor enough at times. I thought Stephen McDonnell was outstanding, however. Shane O Neill may have conceded 4-3 from his direct opponent on paper and he certainly made some mistakes that he would not have made but I would not say he played terrible on Saturday. I thought our backs were actually excellent for the third quarter of the game and it was Clare's backs that looked in trouble. However, as the last poster mentioned, there was relentless forward play from both sides, there was tremendous defensive work going on by the forwards (particularly Clare) and it is only inevitable that mistakes were going to be made (they were forced in reality). We got 40 scores (similar to other years), some of them immense. I can understand why people might choose the 2009 final over this one. I really enjoyed those matches as well. I am not sure if one can objectively say that the standard of hurling was better. They were both great games. To use a well-worn cliche (ugh!!) - hurling was the winner.
