Huge Credit to Mayo fans

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

hill16no1man - so each Mayo player got 25 tickets? I presume the Dublin players got the same allocation then too?

I'm not saying only true supporters buy season tickets but it is one way of guaranteeing you a ticket at least, (and also saves you money on ticket prices).

Look, Mayo brought huge support, more so than Kerry would have in 2011 so the effect of this was bound to filter in to the hill.

Anyway, every year there's people giving out that true supporters who were at cup games in January couldn't source a ticket for the final and sure isn't it a disgrace that GAA abandon the true fans once it comes to the final blah blah. Demand outweighs supply for a final and people are bound to slip through the cracks unfortunately. Also, AI final day is truly for all GAA fans not just the participating counties hence so many neutrals attend thus making tickets scarcer for the fans of the 2 teams.

Relax, enjoy the day and the week. Ye're deserving champions & no matter what you think the rest of the country isn't out to get you. Don't confuse a lot, if not most neutral's desire to see Mayo finally win with an anti Dublin agenda.

Troll on you crazy diamond!

Did the Dubs really not parade in front of the Hill just because a lot of Mayo fans had tickets for there??

Serious amount of arrogance by them if so. All fans should have access to the Hill despite the Dubs feeling they have some God given right to it. Particularly when it is the cheapest section of the stadium.

But that wasn't the point of it was it? They were not remotely interested in cheap tickets. Somehow the Mayo fans thought if they occupied the Hill they would somehow upset the Dubs. They didn't have the slightest effect, because ultimately the better team wins and somehow for a lot of people thats unacceptable especially if its Dublin. But tonight I go to Merrion Square and we are having a big party and the rest of the begrudgrs can go suck eggs.

The Mayo cars were bumper to bumper going through Longford yesterday morning at 8.45am.I was buying the Sunday paper and had to wait at least five minutes to get served as the fans topped up with food and snacks. I think they are great fans but the one think I will ask is what about the recession all these people were driving good cars and tickets cost 70/80 euro where do they get the money?

It was great to see Mayo fans on the Hill yesterday in big numbers. A fantastic step forward & long may it continue.

Absolutely...

Stand where you like

It obviously doesn't have any impact on our players

Maybe not Jimbo but it seemed to have spooked more than a few of your fellow Dubs supporters on here.

Who cares. I say all are welcome... looks like you'll be having plenty of opportunity to stand beside the Dubs on AI final days...

It might be the closet you get to us Dubs on the big day... ;)

Andy Moran taunting the Hill which was half Mayo... says it all

Now I would be a Hill 16 die hard and of course would always prefer an all blue Hill but by no means do I think we have a god given right to be the only county supporters on there. I had no problem at all with it, it was just very very strange. It was like that scene in Anchorman when Veronica Corningstone reads the news for the first time and the rest of the guys are staring at her and say "You're not Ron". Thats what it was like. I was just looking at these green and red jerseys with their odd accents thinking "You're not from Dublin...." It was odd.

In saying that I always stand in the same spot and am always surrounded by the same faces. Don't know them from adam other then the knowing nod whenever they appear. They were noticeably absent yesterday and there were a lot of Dub faces I'd never seen before and I heard a lot of comments that gave away they would not be at all regulars to Croker/The Hill. Disappointing that.

In fairness Jimbo, for an opposition team there is nothing like silencing the hill. I'd cut Moran a bit of slack.

Great to see a lot of Mayo fans in there yesterday and great to see both sets of fans mixing without an ounce of trouble.

One thing though about yesterday is that on TV at least the atmosphere seemed muted. I can only imagine that winning your second All-Ireland in three years after a 16 year gap, the second time around might not be as sweet but it just seemed very muted. Maybe it was different inside the stadium.

Yeah well... that little cookie will soon be gone with all the culchies are standing up there! ;)

There's a reason why "Silencing the Hill" is so important...

It's because Dublin supporters have made it into that thing. We have made that terrace into what it is... it's more than concrete and railings.

The tradition, the history, the contempt, the praise, the begrudery, the plaudits, the infamous, the famous....

Say what you will... but we've crafted it into everything that it is and we'll continue to do so...

I think the last thing Mayo supporters need is sympathy or patronising posts. I know full well that jimbodub means well and so do I when I say that my heart bleeds for them. However winning Sam is the only thing that will salve all the hurt. They have a great panel, they won the minor All Ireland, most Counties will look with envy at the resources Mayo have at their disposal. Its time now to forget about football for a few months but then its dusting down the green & red flags again and getting behind the team. I can see nothing in Connaught to touch them, so it should be quarterfinal time again and just 3 matches to win, I hope to God they do not end up playing Cork in next year's final.

The Mayo lads were fantastic. You brought huge support and were great craic, you were passionate but fair throughout and accepted defeat very fairly. Hopefully your day will come because those lads and the fans deserve an AI champ.

In the minor match it was 60/40 towards Mayo on the HILL and the place was rocking. when main match started id say it was 65 to 35 for the Dubs and the Dubs sang their heads off, the second half was all Dublin singing, Mayo fans were very subdued , bar when Andy Moran started taunting his own fans:}

Jimbo, I was scratching my head at that one. What was he at there? I seen no point to it. As regards the hill, I think it was a great thing. Someone said that mayo fairweather fans were in there and thus took his friends places. Im sure there were some dublin fairweather fans in there also. Maybe they took your friends places?

Also, arock. You say it makes no difference. I read an article last week that had worked out the exact effects of taking frees into the hill. When shooting into the hill, dublin's free takers success rate improved. Everyone else decreases. So yes, it does make a difference.
