All Ireland Hurling Replay

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just 3 more sleeps left. Clare were super last day, their only vulnerability was when Cork ran at them. Davy will definitely be planning to counter that threat, can he do it without deploying the sweeper system. If he goes same as last day he will revert to sweeper if he gets a 5/6 pt lead. Its very important for Cork that they get a good start and put a few doubts in Clare's mind. It will also put Davy on the back foot re tactics. Harnedy would be a big loss if he doesn't make it, on the other hand the 3 extra weeks should be a big plus for Brian Murphy. I must admit I'm more hopeful than confident but at the start of this year if anyone told me that Cork would be in All Ireland Hurling Final, I'd have called for the men in white coats. However we are there and we have a decent chance. The weather forecast is good with just a 25% chance of any rain so just bring it on and when its all over lets hope we are talking about hurling and not any controversy.

Think harmedy will make it all right celt, echo said everybody fit and ready would really like to see brian murphy moved into the back line with Kenny coming in and starting on the half back line maybe McDonald making way to the bench as I felt he got a real roasting the last day but don't think jbm will change it that much, vibes seem to be strong that cian mcarthy will play not really overly happy about that but in jbm we trust

This selection by JBM shows how petrified Cork are of Clare' half-back line. They just want to try break ball from the Cork puck outs instead of Clare winning it clearly but they've sacrificed a lot of pace - McCarthy and Cronin are both relatively slow. I think this nullifies Cork's goal threat a small bit.

I don't think McCarthy is inter-county standard to be honest (and a lot of Corkonians agree with me on this) and I think Davy will be smiling to himself after hearing this news...

bannerboy, Use of the word petrified is silly. Cork will set out their team to nullify Clare's threats and maximise their own strengths, & Davy will do exactly the same. Is Davy "Petrified" of Cork running at the Clare backs? hardly, it's just business as usual for both camps.

I'm sure it was a tough call for JBM to make, but I do agree with it. Coughlan has just not done enough for me. His game is not a physical one and this is where McCarthy comes in. I know a lot of guys on here are worried about the inclusion of McCarthy, and while he doesn't set my pulse racing, I think it's only fair we give the guy a chance.
In JBM we trust, so lets be having you Banner boys!!!
PS: Just want to wish the Clare lads all the best for Saturday. A great bunch of fans and I'm looking forward to having the banter with ye lads again, regardless of the outcome...

banner_boy i still think cork carry plenty of goal threat, they scored 3 the last day.i dont know enough about this change so will have to go with the cork supporters opinion.for me,this game is still 50/50 and i cannot decide who will win it.
(meant to say also,i was glad you clarified your username recently, you are worth debating with and make good points on here!!)

Point taken, but I suppose we could say the same about Honan.

I think Honan has raw skill potential to be very effective but he needs to start delivering on it a bit more now. The same could also be said to varying degrees of his Clonlara teammates, Nicky O'Connell (currently warming up the bench) and John Conlon (maybe just starting to show more consistency this season). Anyway, for the full forward position there is a very good player coming through to challenge in young Shane O'Donnell. I'd like to see him get some good game time on Saturday. It will be interesting to see too if Conor McGrath can up his game a bit this time round. I also wonder if we will see young Morey, who is very versatile, get a decent taste of the action this time round. Clare certainly have options.

I agree with Banner-boy. I think Davy will be smiling now. Clare's backs are not physical (not overtly physical anyway-they would not have the same presence of KK). The last game was not an overtly physical battle either. We simply got cleaned out by Clares half backs in terms of aerial possession and they were a lot more tenacious than us as well. Now what JBM is doing is saying, let us have another go at the very same battle and this time see who wins. Fair enough maybe, but we could do that with Pa Cronin. I think Coughlan should be playing. I think we know that he can potentially deliver.

I just hope that JBM is seeing something in Cian Mc that has never been seen on the field of play- yet. I really really really really hope I am wrong on this. If I am, I will openly admit it too. JBM knows a lot more than I but I just think this is a mistake.

In fairness Pa cronin was at half-forward for must of the match and did next to nothing until he moved to full. I think he's a brilliant player but he's far to slow to play that far out. Probaly the slowest on the cork team.

It seems that tickets are a lot more difficult to get for the replay. Strange.

Clare seem to be more active in the media this time around.

Still very hard to call, Clare to win, just about.

I feel a bit like O'Grady reckons Daly does! Still be watching with a pang of regret over Dubs not making it.

Congrats to all who got tickets. Our club got one which the Cork lad got of course! Will be some occasion under lights. As with the first day I can't honestly call it. It will be a bit tighter perhaps and lower scoring but I think it could turn out to be one of the greatest games ever and a fitting conclusion to a brilliant year. Best of luck to all involved.
