All Ireland Hurling Replay

Less than a week away now from take two! Clare played some great stuff the last day but Cork's resilience was something else. For the replay Cork seem to have more room for improvement. Really looking forward to seeing what these two very young teams are going to dish up the next day.

Any thoughts?

Don't think Cork played badly the last day, they played as well as they were let.

Veronica, if Clare play like they have being playing for the last few games, and dont concede goals like they did the last day, then they have a great chance of pulling it off. How are the ticket sales going down there, is there plenty to go around.

Cork will never be as bad as the last day. So many of their players "under-performed" and will most definitely put that right the next day(we're told)

Clare couldn't possibly play with such intensity again (we're told)

It is especially incomprehensible that Clare could improve from the last day (we're told)

Clare have no goal threat and won't score 1 goal in the replay (we're told)

Clare bottled it the last day (we're told).

Clare have lost their chance (we're told).

Davy Fitz's media interviews will cost us the all-ireland (we're told)

The referee will be keen to get Cork back on his side after the Horgan red-card incident (we're told)

With so much going against us (we're told), it's a wonder the lads have plans to travel to Croker again at all!

As deluded and clueless as I must evidently be, I'm still very confident of a Clare victory.

Clare are a hell of a team and a real good side but its cork for me very even on the pitch but the man on the line is priceless in jbm we trust

With a better referee performance, Clare win hands down

That's would be the same ref who gave ye enough time to get a draw Lohans? Would it?
Ref got decisions wrong that cost both teams, he was not unfair, get over it for Gods sake!

Cork really can't play as badly as they did the last day (in the first half anyway) . Horgan playing like he did against Dublin would probaly give Cork the edge provided they sort their half forward line out. Would definelty start Mcarthy instead of coughlan.

I think jbm will start Moylan myself rebelcork instead of Coughlan thought he done well when he came on and would also not be surprised if Kenny started for macdonald, macdonald got rosted by Collins last day between him and Kelly scoring and winning frees cost cork 11 points stop them two you stop clare simple

A lot of people say that cork cant play as bad as before and Clare cant play as well, I think its worth mentioning that in the last few games Clare have played Galway "underperformed", Limerick "underperformed" and Cork "underperformed"........ I think its Clare forcing them to play poorly with serious intensity, most teams cannot live with Clare's skill level, pace and fitness, I just think Clare force teams into mistakes

I dont see any reason why Clare can not win the reply. They will play with the same intensity and the half back line is very dominant and will give them the platform to get the scores. Man for man they were winning most of the individuals battles and there is no reason why this can not be the case again.

Over the years replays have rarely mirrored original game. The later starting time, perhaps different weather could all influence the style of game. There is no doubt at all that if both sides reproduce their original displays then Clare will win. Here in Cork we were disappointed with our display and are hoping for better. Last time we were chasing the game from the off, if we get the early start next time, how will Clare react. I don't mind in the least that Clare people appear to be super confident, we are still in the Final and we just love being underdogs.

Good post. Agreed. It is the nature of most analysis unfortunately. The winning team (or in Clare v Cork, the better team) only win because the losing team underperforms (we're told- check with Banner-boy for the source).

Can't remember who said it now, but as poor as Coughlan was the last day, I would not have Cian McCarthy near that team. He is a good club hurler but I have never seen anything from him to suggest that he is good enough for senior intercounty hurling. He has had plenty of chances. Not really having a go at him. I admire his dedication, his committment etc and I am sure he is a top fella, I just think we have better players.

I think we will see Clare going back to their sweeper for the next day. Surely having conceded 3 goal the last day this is the obvious thing to do.
There is nothing between these 2 teams, whoever turns up and grabs the game by the scruff of the neck will win it. If I was a betting man, solely on the basis of better forwards in a head to head comparison, I would be giving Clare the nod...but Cork are the rebels and they surely wont fear Clare in any way.

A replay takes on a life of it's own, particularly after a 3 week break. Noone will have any momentum from the last day except maybe Clare who had the welcome distraction of winning the U21 All-Ireland in the mean time.
