I mean in terms that Dublin and Kerry were both in the second divison at that time. Kerry have dropped but they have done well in CR and hopefully get promoted next year. They beat Dublin a few times in league over the years.

they beat Dublin more often then not over the years when they played. Difference is after Dublin won in 2006 they went up to Div 1 a few years before that Kerry won Div 2 and didnt get to go up, so playing Div 2 held Kerry back as they had a strong enoug team in the early 2000's

These days, the likes of Kerry, Carlow, Down, Roscommon, Mayo, Donegal, Derry, Armagh, Wicklow & Kildare can only go so far as they haven't enough adult clubs operating at a high standard. Until that changes from U8s up it's nigh impossible to make the step up to be consistently competitive at provincial or Liam McCarthy level.

That sums it all up really. We have about 15 clubs at home. Double that over 25 years and see how we'd be.

15 adult hurling clubs in Kerry? Really??? That's more than in Westmeath & twice what's in Carlow!

I'm of the belief every GAA player should have the option to play football and hurling. There's a few areas in Kerry without a hurling team e.g. West Kerry. There is a strong history of divisional clubs in Kerry. At the very least there should be a strategy to have a regional team to represent areas where there's no hurling team. We need to give all youngsters across the county the outlet to play the game. This would require investment. Some raised the point of where Dublin are now compared to Kerry. Dublin hurling has had investment. With Kerry consistently doing well at all grades when it comes to B level competition, there should be investment from GAA HQ to get regional teams in place.

I'd agree with you, Legend. In some counties that are primarily known for football (Kerry, Armagh, Donegal, Mayo, Kildare etc) there have been strides made in hurling too. This doesn't have to be to the detriment of football as some would have you believe. All counties should have the foresight & will to see where they are & recognise where they could be in both codes & put plans in place to achieve those goals.

Moomoo, Kerry beating Dublin was always rare enough to be considered to be a surprise!

How many adult hurling clubs are there in Kerry?

Maybe 15 was an exaggeration- I can count 12 adult clubs, including Na Crócaigh and Dubháth, who are more recently competing at adult level; An Neidín (Kenmare) and Cill Gharbháin mightn't be separate anymore?

I defer to anyone with superior knowledge, but I get:
Naomh Breandán, Ard Fhearta
Cill Mhaoile
An Baile Dubh
Mainistir Uí dTorna (Abbeydorney)
An Tóchar (Causeway)
Leic Snámha
Crotta Uí Néill
Na Crócaigh
Dubháth
An Neidín
Cill Gharbháin
Naomh Pádraig (East Kerry; I think they're still going at intermediate/junior level)
