It just shows that football being played the right way is a huge draw in this country. Imagine if every team aspired to play that way, the game would be hugely popular, probably overseas also.

Out of interest, how do people feel this game measured up against the dublin v kerry matches of old? Would they rank it as the best ever?

Was not born when them so called classics of the 70/80's but have say games on TG4. The current teams would steamroll them as teams now are fitter and stronger and the game is gone up several notches in speed. That said it is unfair to compare era's that far apart.

Of course it got those figures!

Is there ever a match-up more exciting in the world of sport than the Navy & Blue V the Green & Gold??!!

Say what you like, but Dublin V Kerry 'is' Gaelic football!

1.2m viewers expected a great game and 1.2m viewers got exactly that!....and sure why wouldnt they, just like 2011, its Dublin V Kerry!

Don't remember the 70's but this was an epic!!! Up there with Mayo/Dublin 2006 and Armagh/Tyrone trilogy of 2005. More of the same for the final please!

Great to see that the whole country was willing Dublin on to win.

The games from the 70s were turgid compared to the great spectacle we had yesterday. Teams were more concerned about kicking the ball forward to focus on any kind of technique or accuracy.

We were shown precision, pace and skill in abundance yesterday.

Out of curiosity, how do they come by these figures? I mean, is it an exact art or what is the definition of a viewer? If they can determine what households are watching the game does this then equate to one viewer I.e. a household or do they then factor in number of occupants in the house? Or is it all just pie in the sky and to borrow a phrase, did they just pick the number from their.....

why? The figures outside Ireland wouldn't be high at all.

Nielsen ratings which uses Viewer diaries where target audiences record their viewing habits
No they don't pick numbers out of the air. there is precise enough market research methods used to calculate figures.

No idea what kind of figures there are but I know in Edinburgh, where I am, there were 5 packed irish bars full of people watching as well as the people who watch online (illegally or otherwise). Any time I have been in another country during championship I see people watching. Would love to get an estimate as to global figures. I reckon the states have a good few thousand watching

Yes there would have been a number of irish bars and others where decent numbers would have been watching but not that large a number would have been watching.
No way of getting any kind of estimate and what would the point be?
