Kerry approach

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was surprise with some of the comments from Kerry this past week. First jack o Connor said he never watched the 2011 final again. One wonders in today's game how managers learn. I doubt mickey harte would take such an approach. I believe there is an arrogance in Kerry and refusal to learn. The game has moved on. This was again reflected in dara o ses piece about Mayo players and white boots. Time for Kerry to move on from tradition and try something new

Try something new? Ye have won more all Irelands than anyone. I think we should all do exactly like ye do. seems to work

Hard to see how Kerry would not adapt. They will try and win with football for sure, but they must have been watching Dublin and who is going to be picking up who. having said that, 2 years ago is a long time at this stage in the tactical life of football. Im sure there would have been many matches scrutinized, none more so than the league encounter in tralee.

donegal man theres this illusion about kerry that they are pure football.go back over the years and they always had a few silent assasins in their back line.they can play football but they can mix it as well.

All I can say is that if Mcmenamin is running through on goal tomorrow, by hook or by crook he will be eating grass before he gets a chance to score a goal.

As the witches in Macbeth said...."Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair"

The 5 best and most important players on that team are 29 or older. Its going to be a massive hole to fill in a few years time.

Kerrys approach is fine.
They have way more all Irelands than anyone, and people forget that since the 2003 semi final v Tyrone, when the style of the game arguably changed forever, Kerry have appeared in 7 finals out of 9, and won 4 of them, and I wouldn't bet against them winning it this year either.
Doesn't sound to me like a county who have fallen behind the rest.

What Kerry will probably do is:

a.target the Dublin Lockout
b. try to shackle MacCabe
c. try to turn the Dublin backline inside and out

What they need to watch out for is:

1. allowing Dublin to launch waves of attacks from deep
2. letting Dublin waltz through the middle
3. failing to respond to dangerous patterns, by either nit redeploying or using the bench

This is Dublin 's to lose... but Kerry need to get their performance right just to make a game of it. If they do that, it will be extremely interesting. If they don't, they will be hockeyed off the field.

I think if we score more than Dublin we should win the game :-)

The original comment was thought provoking.

you learn from mistakes.

That said, Kerry have lost a number of tight games in recent years, most notable the finals of 2011, 2008 & 2005. Kerry are absolutely brilliant when they blitz a team & get out of sight - finals of 2004, 2006, 2007 & 2009. Maybe there is something to be learned. Anyone involved in a team knows that the best coaches & managers never stop learning, it is how they apply what they have learned that makes them great.

Hard to know what could have been learned from 2011 though given the sides were level right up to the death and Dublin scored a good solid free kick to win it.

woops you guys really need to find the culprit , someone was supposed to put a bag over his head and keep him in an attic untill game was over , two big mistakes , you need to hire new henchmen .

Right lads. I've finally got around to posting a reply. First of all fair play to Dublin, the better team won on the day. But I am so disappointed that once again we failed to learn from our mistakes. 2011 - Allow McMenamin to run through and score, 2013 allow him to run even further and score a goal. On occasions when the game was there for us.
Again I go back to the management. What is it about us that we refuse to learn from our mistakes.I highlighted this before the game and unfortunately it proved to be right. I was concerned by Dara O'Se's feeling of confidence and refusal to face the reality. THE GAME HAS MOVED ON AND WE ARE LEFT BEHIND. The "KERRY WAY" was fine when football was poor and there was no real competition. Dublin are the real deal and they will dominate football for the next ten years giving the age profile of their team.
