Mayo V Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Gary Mc - Tyrone have had other players come through since 08 and they haven't been anywhere near the previous standard. Yes, some new players look decent after their championship debuts this season but really they're still quite far away from the rest of the contenders. As McStay pointed out last night, Tyrone have shipped a lot of heavy defeats since they last won the title and looking at Tyrone this year, Harte has gone for a containment system. This made them look better than they really were, as Mayo showed yesterday and against Donegal, if you push players up on these defensive systems you'll reap the rewards. When the game was there for the taking, Tyrone had nothing to offer up front. They've very few goal scorers or for that matter create many goal opportunities.

Really gutted this morning while we had a good go we just seemed to lose our way in the second half maybe it was the Penalty award that took the wind out of sails I just felt we couldn't afford to lose both Harte and SO'N we came up short again but! theres plenty to come in the next 48 months as I think this team will learn a lot and it will be great to get Morgan back Packie has been great for Tyrone but we need a younger net minder who can spray the ball about with accuracy . Had a few beers after the game with some genuine Mayo folk and Goodluck to them in the final I hope its your year hope you get a Ticket Yew tree Good luck lads! for my sins I have decided to make the trek back down next Sunday to give the Minors a shout Tir eoghain abú

Congrats Mayo, better team on the day. From a Tyrone perspective there is cause for optimism. A few ref calls and injuries to key players cost us, and our kick-outs were terrible. A semi-final this year not bad, not many teams ahead of us, and I think we can win it in the next few years. Hope Mayo go on to win now.

Good win for Mayo yesterday. We got a bit of luck but we were the better team over the 70 mins. Tyrone changed my mind about one thing - they are not a cynical team. They tackle hard but fair and overall the game was played in a good spirit. Looking forward to the final now.

Mayo were the better team and deserved to win, however what needs to be addressed here is Aidan O'Shea, his hand/fist contact on Colm Cavanagh's neck was both dangerous and reckless. This deserved more than a yellow card and should have had more analysis on. To hit someone striaght on - on the neck is rarely seen ( the other is round the neck),the way Martin Carney explained this situation was embarrassing,

If paul Galvin of Kerry had have done the same - people would have been shouting for his head!!!!

1468082 This constant carping about referees is becoming tiresome.
All any referee can do is call it as he sees it on the spot with the help of his officials. He doesn't have the help of numerous slow motion replays from camera in different positions & so the armchair refs should either give it a ret or do the refs course themselves & see how easy it is.
_______________

I have no issue with errors of judgement - If he though the penalty was inside the 13 yard line from a bad position - No issue.
What I have an issue with is a different application of the rules.

Donal Vaughan pulls down McGinley with a goal chance developing - Ref correctly calls the foul and no card
Colm Cavanagh does the same thing further out the field and he gets booked.

If Sean Cavanagh had done what Vaughan did - we would have had 20 minutes of debate on the Sunday game.
If Sean Cavanagh had performed the Martial arts moves that Aidan O Shea was practicing he would have been sent off.

- My issue is not poor judgement - My issue is application of different standards

Colm Cavanagh's made the most of it i taught he was shot ,,,what about Sean Cavanagh's tackle in the middle of Field 1st after the whistle went for a Tyrone free not even a yellow ???

Agree with previous poster that Aidan O'Shea standing ovation was a joke. We've won nothing yet.

The impact of the media and in particular RTE on this season has been a disgrace. It was clear yesterday that there were different rules being enforced for the two teams.

Mayo 1-6 from placed balls. Tyrone 3.

I highlighted in advance of the match that Mayo were short odds at the bookies to score from a penalty. And sure enough they did score from a penalty for a tackle outside the penalty area.

Mayo got 1-2 in the first few minutes of the second half to turn the game. The first point included a double bounce which should have made it a Tyrone Free out. The goal was from a penalty for a challenge outside the penalty area. The next point was for a free given against Sean Cavanagh when he had performed a legal tackle and got the ball.

Aidan O Shea hits Colm Cavanagh full force into the neck and gets a yellow card. If that had been a Tyrone player there is no doubt it would have been a red or else we'd be hearing CCCC all week. Compare for example to the Conor Gormley incident from last match which CCCC did investigate.

But the incident which RTE choose to highlight most was "Mayo's disallowed goal". The "goal" in question was scored when Tyrone had stopped defending because the referee had blown the whistle to give Mayo another free in front of the posts.

I thought the standard of the referee decisions yesterday were poor for an all ireland semi final,he got the Derry /cavan game i knew from his performance that day it would be controversy for some team, stonewall penalty against eoin bradley more of a pen than yesterdays for mayo,i could list a load of incidents from both games but their should be better officiating than this at that level, its frustrating for all teams who train hard all year.

Mayo were deserved winners, Tyrone did themselves proud.

ref made some awful decisions in the first half to keep mayo in touch. Has to be said, Deegan does this regularly.
However, there was only one team on the pitch in the second half, and they are worthy favorites to win sam now.

Congratulations Mayo, best team on the day and good luck in the final. Reason they won was they scored more, simple, doesn't matter how they went about it, its just a matter of getting over the line (as Tyrone know against monaghan). What goes around comes around, days decisions go for you and days they go against you.

Well done to Mayo I will certainly be backing them to win a historic all-ireland. As for Tyrone this was maybe a through back to the 1980/1990's when trips to Croke Park to play Dublin, Monaghan,Kerry, Derry and Meath showed Tyrone how far they had to go. Dublin, Mayo and Donegal last year have set the standard that must be achieved.

Aidan O Sheas deserved more than a yellow? Lads get a grip, it was a half arsed hand out that resulted in a yellow, right decision.

Mayo got 1-2 in the first few minutes of the second half to turn the game.

Add in their first two points which as "pundit" Martin Carney judged as soft frees (read unjustified frees)adds up to 1-4 in dubious scores. So Mayo experts were conceding last night that Mayo were gifted 7 points from the ref, about 40% of their scores. When in a game at this level one or two scores can have a major impact but 40% of your scores? Terrible referring. I am sure Joe Brolly will be feeling smug with himself now after stirring such a hate campaign against Tyrone which was always going to affect referee decisions.

Mayo may have still won the game but they certainly do not have the quality to win the All Ireland unless they get similar decisions from the ref in the final.

It was an incredible miss!
