I've worked out Ulstermans weakness, he hates good news stories or good things being said about his county ,he runs a mile. Two threads ongoing about his beloved county and huge goodwill being extended to Antrim , yet he is no where near these threads. now bad referreing decisions against an ulster team(not even his own county)and hes on here like a shot. Come on Ulsterman take a peek at the other pages it might put a smile on your face :)

It wasn't Tyrone's day today, but we aren't that far away. We have looked to be on decline the last two seasons, but this year we certainly have improved our level. With a more attacking approach it could be our year in a year or two. There has certainly been a lack of order since 2009, so we could come back and fill the gap again!

Tell Ulsterman that you think the £60 million been given towards the redevelopment of Casement Park would be better spent in more central location like Omagh or Dungannon, and you should get a swift response.

1st off congrats to Mayo - finish the job now in the final!! To those saying Mayo were poor in 1st half, I believe a large part of this was due to the intensity and gameplan Mickey Harte and the team brought to the table (James Horan alluded to this on the radio after the match). Tyrone were always going to struggle to maintain this and needed the subs to come in with around 20/25 mins to go to give them a boost - unfortunately with the injuries they used subs earlier - this coupled with a lack of real depth on the bench meant this game was a step too far this year!!). To be honest not too disappointed with the year - national league final and AI semi final appearances for this team is a good achievement, hopefully now build for the future (starting next week with the minors :-) ). Well done lads, you did us proud.

AthClaith,
Who are you kidding? A lot of the stuff being said about the Antrim U -21's is patronising guff. Let's not kid ourselves that the minute an Antrim hurling team gets anywhere near challenging the big guns the usual suspects will turn on them with their anti-Ulster bile.Offaly apart, sure didn't we get a taste of it in 1989 from the established hurling 'elite' when we got to the final? Read Sambo McNaughton's book. I know my county very well AthCliath and the set up in it. The performance from our lads deserves all the praise going and the management set up is now focusing on instilling belief and confidence to go with the skill many of them have. I have been a regular fan at Antrim county games and wish our U - 21'S all the best in the final against an exceptionally good Clare team.

Mayo were the better team over 70 mins.
But as an observation they were playing to a different set of rules than tyrone. Donal vaughan pulls down a player with a goal chance developing. Ref calls the foul and no card- bizarre. If sean cavanagh did the same we would have 20 mins on Sunday game. His brother commits a foul similar to vaughan but further out the field and gets booked. No logic to this whatsoever.
Mayo wont enjoy same bias v kerry or dublin

As tin-foil hatish as Tyrone can get I thought Deegan was slightly lopsided in his decisions. Consider the 3 (at least) soft Mayo frees (all scoreable) in first half. These were probably negated by the disallowed goal which hinted at a man somewhat too eager to blow up. In the second the foot block was incredibly blatant and you really would question the role of the umpires there. I think ultimately Mayo were worth the win but all of those decisions chip away at a team. I can see why Tyrone folk get so paranoid!

As stop most people commenting are genuinely happy for your hurlers, sure we still get comments about the other team(if its one of the so called hurling powers) "having natural hurlers being the difference" when we lose a game. Id say its easier to get accepted in the Gaeltacht if you moved there with no Irish and opened up a head shop than it is getting accepted into the top hurling club. so I wouldn't lose any sleep about that, well done on your win.

Hi lads,
Tactical breakdown of today's game here. Genuinely interested in stuff y'all thought I missed, not least because it'll come in handy for my final previews (I do a three-parter for it)

Fair play to Mayo. I hope they go on and win Sam. As for Tyrone, ultimately it was still a good year and hopefully we improve further in the next few years.

Maurice Deegan had a shocker by all accounts...unfortunately didn't see the game but Deegan has history here....he gave soft free after soft free to Mayo in last years All Ireland final to get them back in the game after Donegal blitzed them in first 10 minutes. Doesn't surprise me one bit that he did the exact same today.
As for Marty Morissey....any commentator who keeps referring to Kieran Donaghey as 'Star' in place of his real name, deserves every bit of criticism they get.

You're not far wrong there lads. Whilst the emphasis has been placed on cynical fouling, etc, the real story as far as I'm concerned has been the dreadful state of broadcasting. So far this year its been about biased and inaccurate commentary (do your homework ffs), opinion and personal grudges rather than impartial analysis, its been dreadful and this is the real scandal. _________________________________________________
I just have a problem with pundits covering games their own county is involved in. At the end of the game Carney went completely over the top waxing lyrical about how delighted he was for Mayo and various players - fair enough if this is his own opinion, but not much use for neutral observers who want a balanced analysis of the game. Could they not have put Ciaran Whelan or someone in there instead? Already cringing to think what Carney will be like as co-commentator if Mayo win the All-Ireland.

People saying that Mayo had a goal disallowed are silly. The whistle blew and the Tyrone players stopped. Just watch Joe McMahon. He made no effort and walked out the field. The referee blew too early and denied the player the chance for a goal.

Worth noting that today we finally seen a new generation of Tyrone players get a taste of an All Ireland SF in Croke Park, and I suspect they will be back very soon.
I felt a good long championship run would be needed for Tyrone's new players to step up, and today I felt they did step up. Circumstances may have let the game slip away from them, but there were major positives for Tyrone to take away from this.
Today the lost by 1 goal and 3 points to the current red hot favourites for the All Ireland. They are not the finished article yet, but I got the feeling that many of the younger players will come away this evening thinking they are close.

I don't think so. Mayo played poorly for 35mins and still won pulling up. Tyrones lack of good bench was shown up once again today they didn't have anyone to replace O'Neill,McMahon and Harte and in other games against Meath,Roscommon,Monaghan they were hanging on due to lack of bench.
The same talent isn't coming through for example they haven't won Ulster U-21 title since 2006.

Deegan was poor but lads we could highlight a load of harsh decisions against Mayo including 2 points which should have been a free out to Mayo. These things happen lads. Aidan O Se was very quiet after a very harsh yellow, not a word mentioned. Swings and roundabouts lads.

This constant carping about referees is becoming tiresome. All any referee can do is call it as he sees it on the spot with the help of his officials. He doesn't have the help of numerous slow motion replays from camera in different positions & so the armchair refs should either give it a ret or do the refs course themselves & see how easy it is.

Agreed. We will take a lot of positives out of this game. 4 young forwards scored beautiful points from play today, McCurry, McAliskey, R. O'Neill and Coney, also new half back Cormac McGinley made brilliant forward to score first point. Only 3 of Tyrone's scores came from the old guard.
No doubt the loss of Harte, O'Neill and McMahon were massive blows for the team but they still fought to the bitter end.

it was a stonewall penalty for the foot block though
also, Aiden O'Shea's standing ovation was cringey

Well done Mayo, the better team won and hopefully they can go on and win Sam now. Tyrone played some lovely stuff in the first 20 minute and hit some beautiful first-time scores. Not sure how and why it happened but Tyrone stopped pinning the Mayo halfbacks back after they went 7-3 ahead and Mayo also got wise to short kickouts. The rules may have been applied wrongly but its good to see penalties awarded for foul tackles that deny goal-scoring chances. Also high on the irony scale Sean Cavanagh got penalised for an almost replica tackle of Darren Hughes' perfectly legal tackle against him a few weeks ago.
