Mayo V Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tyrone do have some very capable players in particular their defence with the likes of Mc Carron, Clarke, Gormley and Harte these lads are are well capable of holding the Mayo forwards. Mayo seem to be stronger all round though so they should win this.

Donegalman, We will take Tyrone game very serious, we will prepare just as we had done for the Donegal game, with hopefully the same outcome. :)

Tyrone have won their last 4 matches by 2 points, all over weaker teams than Mayo so I expect that Mayo should win by 7 or 8 points. In truth they were awesome against Donegal and I think they have a lot more in the tank having had some very soft matches so far.

Because of he style of football that Tyrone play they are never going to blow teams away and by inference they will never lose by much. Tyrone will be a far sterner challenge for Mayo than Donegal were - Donegal were running on empty yesterday and the lack of depth in their squad came home to roost.

Just a small observation here but have donegal not been the masters of that style of play for the last 3 years limiting scores and only wining by a few and what happened to them to be honest it would pay us better to start talking about the other semi final because at least both teams will try to play football . Heres hoping for 2 good games and a good final I never thought Id say this considering I am a meath man but we need mayo and dublin in the final

I thought that Royaldunne character had 'Elvis like' left the building? Did you not close that door tight after you? Mayo will win this because they are hungrier, have developed a bit of steel and they will more than match Tyrone for cynical fouls.

Long time reader first time poster, Felt it necessary to post as there seems to be alot of my fellow county men let's say "too confident" in terms of the prediction for the semi final. although we have steam rolled our way through the championship thus far an AI semi final is a different prospect. When you get down to the last 4 teams in the country on any given day they all could upset the other. Granted if you study the form you would have to single out Dublin and Mayo, but they face the 2 teams of the 00's who know how to win when it comes to the business end of the season. I do hope we win but if we do it will be by a narrow margin. The games of 10+ victories are well and truely gone for this year.

Seem to remember similar comments prior to the Donegal game.

2winjustonce: I don't for a moment believe that you're a long time reader. If you were, you'd know that any posts that even approximate common sense are not welcomed this close to September.

Hope ye can do it against Tyrone. I'm expecting ye to run out by 5+ points. Young O'Connor is on fire and he's certainly answere Mayo's goal scoring problems that ye had in the league.

Thanks Yew_Tree - Can see that it could become addictive. Fingers Crossed for the semi-final, it will be a hard slog to get over tyrone and like nothing we have faced this year so far. the average Joe on the street in Mayo has no illusions as to what will be required to overcome tyrone.

Any truth in the rumour that Enda Kenny is going to take a leaf out of the Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg book only this time he's going to drive the Mayo team bus ? and everybody on the bus sing "The wheels on the bus go's round and round, round and round,"

Mayo by 10 .
It's getting hard to listen to ye around Galway city .
Can't imagine if ye actually win one .
Probably the best football team the month of august has ever seen .
September football asks a lot of questions though .
More mental than anything .
Having said all that , I'll be behind ye all the way .
The only team Mayo have to watch out for is Mayo .

Festinog: hope you are right but not that confident, I see you point in relation to O'Connor and ability to get goals but if you look at many of the Mayo goals this year alot have come from play right down the centre from runs that start in our half back line, eg Vaughan & O Connors against Donegal. i don't think Tyrone will open those channels and invite us in. I think we will need to play differently against tyrone and bring Moran / Freeman into the play more as ball winners in the FF line

Had the displeasure of being beside two very arrogant and drunk Tyrone fans in Donegal Town on Saturday night and to listen to the absolute drivel that was coming out of their cake holes has me hoping and praying for a Mayo win. We couldn't put it up to Mayo in the quarters, Tyrone will, but I'd love to see Mayo wipe the floor with Tyrone, dominate them physically, run through them and humiliate them like they did us in the quarters.

According to these "experts" "Mickey Harte didn't want to win against Donegal in Ulster as he was waiting to get them in Croke Park, Donegal fluked their way to an AI, James Horan is completely unable to control the hype getting to Mayo, Tyrone players man for man with possibly the exception of AOS are far superior footballers, we'll show these southern boys we haven't gone away, blah blah blah"

Come on Mayo, time to put this arrogance to bed!!!
