Jayp......catch yourself on. There's nothing more cynical than "the strange" one taking forever to take a free.

Joe after the 2006 Derry v Tyrone match - one of the most cynical matches I've ever seen.

I really enjoy the holier than thou brigade on here. I challenge one poster to come on hand on heart and say that they have never seen their team commit an offence like that shown last night. It is not nice, Sean Cavanagh said as much however I would expect any defender to try and stop a one on one situation in a situation like last night. I watched a Cork player commit as cynical a foul in the small square, Cavan player did it on Donaghy, Kerry player did it at the end today with virtually nothing at stake! It is rife and the fault lies with the rule makers. To those suggesting it should have been a red card, they would do better to learn the rules. There is no facility to send him off, it is a personal foul which merits a yellow card. The rules don't differentiate where on the field it happens.

As for Mr Brolly, generally I have a lot of respect for him especially as a person, however he has abused his position to launch a cowardly personal attack on Sean and Mickey Harte. Sean Cavanagh has taken fierce abuse throughout his career, for example against Donegal in the Ulster semi final a couple of years ago which I seem to remember Mr Brolly thought was an excellent ploy by McGuinness. With regards to his comments around Mickey celebrating, is he not allowed to? Should one incident make him immune to feeling elated that his side won? In 2006, Derry pulled and mauled Tyrone around Healy Park and Joe Brolly celebrated like they had won the All Ireland. I watched Dublin cynically and systematically foul Laois in an All Ireland QF in the last 10 minutes when they were under pressure.

The Donegal/Mayo game has seen already 3-4 tackles as bad as Cavanagh's, especially the one from Andy Moran, the difference is context. I also take issue with the poster who suggested that Cavanagh dived to get Darren Hughes booked. Both lads were running at full pelt and Hughes whilst making an excellent tackle did collide with Cavanagh and both of them went down. Again, Cavanagh stated in was not a foul but the referee saw it differently

Finally, and I apologise for the rant but regards the sending off, Gormley initially went in as peacemaker but Dessie Mone as he is want to do managed to goad Gormley into a swing at him. Penrose has no excuse and his sending off was only a matter of time. He spent the whole game hitting late off the ball and was having an absolute nightmare of a game. It was probably to Tyrone's advantage that he was sent off. As for young Hughes being naive? it was a straight forearm smash when Donnelly was breaking through and although less dramatic looking was every bit as cynical as Cavanagh, don't make me laugh.

Well that's not my point, obviously - my point is that it is hypocritical.

No flies on you Bosco, however he made comment last night about Mickey Harte celebrating after the game last night yet that game was the single greatest expose of cynical football you are ever likely to see. Derry absolute pulled, hauled, and dragged Tyrone all over the field. Hypocrisy is an awful thing.

Clarification not every county rugby tackles guys straight in on goal. Anyone who says so only watches football through teir rose tinted glasses. Only way around this is make it a straight red card offence.

Lifford Gael - "I don't recall Donegal having employed similar tactics..." you may have to reflect upon that comment, what eamon mcgee did today was 100 times worse than what sean cavanagh, to stand on the back of a man's neck is not only dirty dirty tactics but potentially very dangerous!! At least now you can clearly recall donegal employing similar tactics, not that you should need to be reminded before today..

Anyone citing McGee has Donegal employing "tactics" are idiots. There was no tactic in that, it was McGee frustrated at the result and going back to his old ways of off the ball sendings off when we were getting hammered. As if that was a tactic from the training ground.

Brendan

No offense but Tyrone are not a traditional county as such.In the North Down and Cavan are the counties that have a long tradition in the game going back years. You cannot say this about Tyrone to be fair..

I was sick leaking Croke park after what I witnessed on Saturday, the punching at half time the dragging down of McManus and also in the second half tyrone forwards standing in front of young Beggan not allowing him to take kick outs, well done you should be proud of your team.

I think RTE would be better not employing Joe for the Mayo v Tyrone game. Poor man would be in torture watching that.

You must have hated watching Monaghan down through the years so tommyjohn? It doesn't say much for human behaviour that people are so happy and willing to swallow Brolly's line that Tyrone are the only culprits in this regard. Everyone does it, EVERYONE, and just because it makes you feel better to believe your club or county doesn't it don't make it any more true. Get over yourself.

To all the anti-Tyrone hypocrites posting on this thread,
Tyrone are still in the running for an AI, still there,
still winning matches. Whinge and whine away, but remember
this, Tyrone haven't gone away and will do what they must
to win! ;)

Just because everyone does it doesn't make it right.
Tyrone are the worst for it, though Mayo will run them close.
I think that the problem is that Tyrone use it as a full on tactic, as opposed to a last resort.
Cavanagh had no intention of dispossessing the monaghan player yesterday, or tackling him fairly. It never entered his mind. He automatically fouled him, without even thinking about it.
Its ingrained in them at this stage.
