Joe Brolly's sentiments

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

sorry, I haven't read all the comments on here, But I have read quite alot about this particular topic. What strikes me most is that people are talking about Joe Brolly's reaction to the tackle rather than the tackle itself. I just wonder If Brolly had said nothing would there be much said at all. I watched this game with some friends from different counties (all massive GAA fans) we were all neutral. None of us made much of the Cavanagh tackle at the time. (what we did get excited about was the melee at half time.. we predicted that Penrose would walk at the start of the second half.. yet not one pundit mentioned it at half time).. getting back to Brolly.. we couldn't believe his rant and knew that because of his rant that the whole thing would be over the news media. Brolly was 100% incorrect in what he did. He knows full well what the situation is when you are on the field of play in that situation and he knows the current rules and he also knows that are being changed. There are cynical fouls committed all the time whether it's defenders or attackers (trying to stop defenders bringing the ball up the field in the last minute to try and rescue a game).. every team does it. So for Brolly to single out Cavanagh and Tyrone for such personal abuse was extraordinary. It was nothing to do with football. He should be made resign. We the license payer should not have to listen to such "punditry"

Funny, this wasnt your opinion when he singled out an entire team before last year's final... I said he should have been punished then, but people didnt want that, so what goes around comes around I suppose.

1) So was cavanagh, doing in week after week.
2) Donegal were doing a similar thing themselves throughout their run to the final.

It is the equivalent of aidan o'shea doing the same thing as cavanagh and brolly not mentioning it, while lambasting cavanagh before the two teams met.

2012 benjy - any game. Their attitude of 'foul anyone that wins a kickout against us', was far more developed than mayo's 'foul guys 25 yards from goal', and ultimately far more effective.

You have any stats to back this up?

themaster used to be HS poster boy for anti-cynicism,
until his own county became the masters last year!
Then all of a sudden cynicism became acceptable for
themaster, and now watch him the cynicism of his county
at every turn! That's some turnaround I'd say! ;)
Way to go themasquerader!

I do benjy. donegal's cynical foul count in their semi was equal to mayos, and it was higher in the final...

the top teams will always operate on the very edge of what is allowed. When they go too far it gets highlighted through decent punditry.

Mayo - cynical fouling their way to a final last year
Donegal - parking the bus all the way to the final last year
Tyrone - cynical fouling

All are guilty and all were called out on it. Get over it. Its good punditry. And yes, of course other counties get up to similar but these counties were winning and there to be analysed

Article about Joe Brolly on HoganStand. He is not the only person in Ireland with morals and he is not the only one who thinks football like many things should be done with morals. I know he is joking but the punchline seems to be based on others having less morals than he.

Tyrone and Mickey Harte respond to the "Unfair/Unbalanced Criticism" with Facts (Dispatched calmly not in Rafa rant mode)

Some additional points made which can be added to the open-minded in relation to U-12 games in Tyrone and Cul.

Tyronetim, did they subtract the amount of times a tyrone player dived and won a free? Because that is part of what people are talking about also. Obviously, not doing so skews the numbers in tyrone's favour and thus renders their 'facts' as nonsense.

In all fairness how could you listen to this and not know that 10 years further down the road, and with 3 all Irelands now in our back pockets, this man hates Tyrone even more now.

Sean Cavanagh has done it in practically every game this year benjy. Colm McFadden made a fair attempt at one against aidan o'shea also - knowing he was on a yellow. Do you watch the games at all?

Intelligent debate and discussion should be welcomed but irrational diatribe ignored. Rise above the visceral and respond in a measured reasonable way and something can be acheived by the serial chains if not offenders.
