Joe Brolly's sentiments

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lad i think you should all know by now theres absolutely nothing to be gained by trying to point out the negatives of northern style football especially "the style" played by tyrone these people will never admit to their faults maybe thats why they've been batin lumps out of each other up there for a few hundred years and even at this juncture one set of people cant allow the other to walk down the street without mayhem breaking out ! Its just part of the northern physche to see no wrong in onself and to always lay the blame at the feet of someone for their own wrongdoing ! I dont think for a minute any team is innocent of cynicism at any given time and an individual player on any team on the spur of the moment would no doubt commit the professional type foul that sean cavanagh did but the big difference with tyrone is that it is clearly part of their game plan and that is what most people have an issue with sure one only has to see the tyrone minor team play and its obvious this type of play is coached into tyrone players ! I fear for football if this type of "game" is allowed to go unpunished ! So wrong to see teams playing the game as cynical as they can get away with and their manager s standing on the sideline with their holier than thou attitude and looking as butter would'nt melt in their mouths when it is clear that they encourage and endorse this type of cheating !

We might be fom the same county Dubjohn, but I hope that is the only similarity. That is hugely ignorant and offensive stuff.

I was'nt there cavanman but im sure the gang of local thugs that were present on the day and the huge volume of daytrippers from the "green parts of ulster that were present that day will be able to answer that for you or maybe you could check with the garda press office im sure they will confirm where the majority of the daytrippers were from !

I think Joe Brolly was 100% right on the problem as a whole unfortunately for Tyrone and more so Sean Cavanagh they were on the recieving end of it because for two weeks in a row they made the most blatant examples of the cynical foul known to the game.
I think what Sean Cavanagh done was also 100% correct in the context of the game and anyone who says they wouldn't want their team to do the same is a LIAR,protect your lead at all costs, maybe Paul Durkan should have done the same to Vaughan on sunday to stop Mayo's second goal which may have changed how the game would have played out given that Donegal hit a wee bit of form in the few minutes leading up to it.
All that aside the problem lies with the rulemakers to counteract this and I don't think the black card will make a blind bit of difference in the dying moments of matches the same thing WILL happen.

If yellow cards carried into the next match for example Sean Cavanagh would not be available for the semi final and in my opinion this would hurt teams much more.
Question, How is the black card a punishment?? The offending team will still have 15 players on the pitch, they will have achieved the immediate goal of wasting time because play will be held up for the black card and then the substitution.IMO the sin bin could work better.

Dubjohn,
Absolutely spot on there. If you were any more right you'd be wrong.

Seanie_boy,
What level I played/ play to if any at all is really not not in any way significant. You could be an all star or maybe you wouldn't get a kick in a horsebox? Also irrelevant.
You're losing to run of yourself and the discussion when you start that craic now.
Tyrone have produced some outstanding players over the years. Tell you who I really used to enjoy watching was Aidan Skelton. He was a quare one!! He always reminded me of Ghengis Khan!
Great shot stopper.
But under this current regime well you've lost a lot of goodwill. Due to two bereavements affecting your GAA family you were the recipients of enormous sympathy and goodwill from the entire nation but to be honest I'll be glad to see the back of this current regime. At least we don't have to listen to the disingenuous lip service paid to the association from on high.
I'll be thrilled when Mayo knock you out and I can only hope you continue to make a show of yourselves in that game as you have done previously. Hopefully it will be the end of the road for some of your most churlish players bad sport can have a chance to survive. Hon Mayo!!

Three bereavements. Some of us remember poor Paul McGirr, lost in the flower of his youth in the summer of 1997. I never wanted a team to win the All Ireland in any code as much as I wanted Tír Eoghain to do that summer. They got as close as they possibly could, and they did in 1998.

Does anybody know if the CCCC will be dealing with the Conor Gormley incident where he used a closed fist to strike Dessie Moen at half time, as there is clear footage of his cowardly act and it was not dealt with by the Ref ??.

See Paddy McNiece is out for the rest of the inter county season for Tyrone minors. Tough on the chap.
Incidentally Conor MacManus' inter county season is over also so..........

For someone to make a connection, between the tactical setup of an amateur football team and the "psyche" of almost 2 million people who we share this Island with, displays an intellect so devoid of thought and understanding as to render not only its author a complete and utter simpleton but indeed the reader for being part of a forum that could allow and encourage such a moronic statement. For shame.

DubJohn, it's a sad reflection on yourself that you have to ask what was ignorant or offensive about your earlier remark! Disgraceful!

I would doubt it as video footage shows that it was Mone's own fist that connected with his face. So what gormley did was push mone's arm - and that is not an offence worthy of suspension.

Bosco, if your going to attempt sarcasm to express your delight at Paddy McNeice's injury, at least get your facts right. He plays for Tyrone seniors, not minors. Also in your endorsement of a comment previously which attempts to link the troubles and contentious marches as factors in how Northern teams play football and how you percieve Northern people to behave, well that is just ridiculous. You and your band on here enjoy espousing your frankly racist, airheaded theories, looking down on people from the North of Ireland from your Ivory tower, thinking that you are in some way intellectually and culturally superior. I have to say I was angry at first, but on reflection I only feel pity for you sitting at home in Carlow typing your warped opinions for days on end. Its summer time. Maybe you should get out more. It'll do you good.

If Brolly's outburst leads to a rule change he will have achieved his goal so fair play to him. It was also amazing to watch and they are in the entertainment industry. I couldn't stop laughing when he pointed to Spillane and O'Rourke. TV gold!

Paddy McNiece plays for the senior team and got injured against Monaghan, did you watch the game or do you know anything about it? Secondly to suggest that a lad breaking his collarbone and missing games because of it is in any way comparable to Conor McManus' season ending, who despite what happened was part of a team that were deservedly beaten is so mind numbingly ignorant it is unbelievable
