Rules changes you'd like to see in GAA

Handpassed points aren't allowed, it's supposed to be a fisted point only, which as anyone who has played football will know is a far more difficult achievement. 10 years on or so and we've yet to see the first disallowed 'fist', and some of them have been bordering on throws!

1. Free kicks/45's must be taken within 60 seconds from the whistle blowing or else the ball is thrown in from where the free was to take place.

2. Cynical fouling when team coming out of defence (in own half) - free kick from 45 metre line - may be punished by good free taker
Cynical fouling when attacking (in opponents half) - free kick from 21 metre line - more than likely will be punished by free taker

Three yellows to equal one red or maybe 2 yellows to equal a player change. Players are getting sent off for less and less lately and it completely ruins the game.

Time keeping is the only rule that needs to be introduced

Automatic sending off and lifetime ban for kissing the badge while waving like a fool to your mates on the hill

We should also stop letting politicians in for nothing.
Feckers always behind the presentation box and wouldn't go if they didn't get a free ticket and a free feed.

Yep Cavan_Slasher, only the President should attend and not a gaggle of junior ministers who probably don't know whats happening on the pitch anyhow.

They could bring in something to prevent free takers from stealing yards to lessen distance and / or improve the shooting angle. This has become prevalent, especially among players who take kicks from their hands.

The refs and linesmen could carry aerosols to mark the spot of the free. If the free taker oversteps the mark then the ball should be thrown up. FIFA implemented this in the recent under-20 world cup to mark the spot from where certain free kicks had to be taken and it ended any disputes on the matter. The dye from these cans fades in a maximum of two minutes.

The second use of this could be to mark how far back an opposing player must stand with encroachment resulting in advancement of the kicking spot by 13 metres etc.

No rule changes needed - just enforce the rules that are their.

No soft refs and harsh refs just start next season with zero tolerance. First few games would see 6 red cards but after that teams would get the message, look at rugby much more intense game and players cant so much as give the ref a dirty look.

Good point on the free taking. At least they brought in a rule to combat the sideline kick problem

Very good point. This is something which has always annoyed me. The rule used to be that a free must be taken from where the foul occurs. Have they changed this? I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment, but does anyone know?

SeanieSense.

Ref's enforcing the current rules would be good but even with the best will in the world 2 ref's will have different opinions.

Should a ref visit a training session in each county to explain their interpretation of certain rules?

Further to the yard stealing issue, oppostion players standing too close to the free taker should be punished more. Cork hurlers did this a good bit yesterday

by visiting a each county I mean that if a ref is taking charge of Kerry vs Cork, he visits both camps the week before the game to give them a run through how he will ref a game.

I think the rugby ref's do this.

Also, great point about discipline. I think there should be a rule where only the captain can speak with/to/at the ref.

I would like to see the clock stopped for each foul, and start when the free is about to be kicked. Be kinda hard to slow the game down then.

Referee's should only be appointed if they are not from the same province as a county involved in a game for e.g If Kildare and Dublin are in the leinster final the David Coldrick (Meath) should not be the referee for the game.
Galway V Mayo Marty Duffy(sligo) shouldnt be in charge
Secondly referee's should get punished for blatant blunders something like not put in charge of an important game until they show they are competent enough again.

I'd like to see nothing changed, and give our referees a shot at consistency.
