Mc Guinness fearful

That has nothing to do with this topic. The measure of a man is someone who can analyse an incident without blind prejudice on the topic and not just make a judgement based on who it involves, it is something unfortunetly you have no interest in trying to master. That is your choice , but you have turned a lot of posters off reading topics purely because all you are doing is trying to use the pages like a courtroom and bore people to death.

Ath Cliath you are 100% correct, it has nothing to do with this topic. Please tell culann as much, because he is carrying it around with him onto every topic and frankly killing them. Also, you accuse me of prejudice, what prejudice have I displayed on this topic? That mcguinness' comments were calculated? Your own ciaran whelan said the same, is he prejudiced too? What prejudice are you talking about? I would say that it is yourself who is showing prejudice with these claims that are totally unsubstantiated and seem to be just some personal gripe you have. That is prejudice.

As regards a 'courtroom' - I take it you refer to me trying to use logic and reason to uncover the facts of the matter over half-baked inaccurate opinions. I would say that has place in more areas that just a courtroom...

It was a coming together of two players.....Monaghan boy didn't try to "DO" McHugh.

Just two committed lads.....and unfortunately Mark McHugh came off worse. It was a Donegal free and both boys got injured.

McGuinness is doing the old, "My players are at risk" jibe to get a few decisions in his next game vs Mayo. Similar to Horan saying Joe McQuillan reffed Dublins warm up games last year. Trying to get the ref onside before the next game.

Its ironic McGuinness says this, his team are feather fingered and apologetic when tackling!!!!

What I think needs to happen is that the concept of the "hit" as a means of tackling has to be taken out of the game.
To my mind if a player lines up another player & slams into him without the other player being in a position to defend himself then that should be an automatic red card. I would even include so called "shoulder to shoulder" tackles, which are often anything but. Intent doesn't come into it, it's all about player welfare some of these tackles nowadays would get you a straight red in rugby!! American football is the only place you see them & they are well protected & well paid.

But mchugh was in a position to defend himself - he seen him coming and was running forward himself, the same as gallogly. I dont get how just because mchugh came off the worst, he was the one in the wrong. They both ran for the ball, they both seen each other. Surely if that is the case, and gallogly should have been sent off, then so should mchugh? Another example was the london lad that challenged the mayo keeper and could well have had, and maybe should have had a goal. He threw himself at the ball, got a hand to it and then collided with teh keeper. That would be a red card under your new rule. It is a contact sport, and sometimes you will get instances where guys come off the worst from that. You cant legislate for that. Think about it practically - a lad on a solo run bangs into an opponent, is that a free out or in? Who is getting that red card? Your stance is nonsense in my opinion. Doublehop has been spot on throughout this thread.

To me it is all tactical with McGuinness. Siege mentality and pot kettle black spring to mind.

Donegal have gone the past 3 years without a single 3rd man tackle? Really?

And Gollogly never in a million years meant any harm to McHugh.

In regard the Mc Hugh/Gallogly incident. It was obvious Mc Hugh was taken out of it. The ball was a 50/50 where Mc Hugh had his arms outstretched to catch the ball. Galloglys arms were tucked in by his side ready with intent to take man/ball. No attempt was made to play the ball.

You're completely taking me out of context purposely too.

Did you complain about the tackle last week at anytime?

There was a time when big men gave the hits and it was accepted with the oooohhhh from the crowd. The difference now is that big men are giving hits at twice the speed and with more conditioning than ever before. The doctors report on Mc Hughs injury was that it was consistent of someone that had been involved in a road traffic accident and I would assume the same for the Monaghan man.

Leave aside that it was Mc Guinness that said what was said and imagine it was an independent person and you can see the duty of care to players position is very real and very valid. Players are running full pelt straight into the opposition in body checks which is giving referees a problem. It's not striking but its very dangerous to BOTH players but especially if one of the players is as light as Mc Hugh, Gooch etc.

In the case for the Mc Hugh tackle I think the Monaghan player went so fast for that tackle and was so fully committed to it that there was no way he could have readjusted his body to meet Mc Hugh shoulder on, it was at worst reckless but I'll give him the benefit of doubt on the deliberate as he ended up on the sidelines himself.

I do have an issue with the off the ball tackles when players are running to support the attack and tripped or rugby tackled as we seen at the weekend. This needs to be stopped by the officials and I don't think the black card will have any impact on it as this seems to be prevalent in the last 10 minutes of games when teams are trying to close out a win. Before the smart boys start saying that this is rich coming from a Donegal poster I'd like to see it cut out in all games and if my beloved Donegal get punished for it too then so be it but it is killing the attacking section of the game as it stands.

Donegal players are being targeted
1. Lacey in AI semi (2011)against Dublin was taken out
2. Mc Gee was "attempted" to be taken out by S O'Neill in 1st round
3. Lacey was targeted against Tyrone coming off the bench this year
4. Mc Hugh in All Ireland final last year
5. 3 concussions in 2 games

Thats off the top of my head!

While no one wants to deliberately hospitalize a player it's a physical game.. It's impossible to prove or disprove intent in the Gollogly Mchugh tackle.. If you watch the replay closely it apears that McHugh had lost control of the ball initially.. Gollogly went for it and McHugh had gathered it just before the hit came in.. I dont know what McGuinness is proposing should have happend in that incident? Monaghan player had every right to go for the ball

Lads, targetted is a very strong word. In the collective I might agree, in the sense that teams know we are AI champions and if they want to win then they need to hit us hard and be 100% committed to win the game.

We have certainly been unlucky this year and Gollogly deserved a yellow card because it was reckless and he didnt get near the ball but thats the height of it.

I have to disagree with whoever said that anyone who tackles a player when they dont see it coming and brace themselves should get a straight red. Its not up to the tackler to let a player know they are coming. It reminds me of a few years ago when we were playing Fermanagh. Ciaran Bonner had been shouldered off the pitch into the barriers and was down for a few minutes. Then Eamon Maguire had the ball by the line near him and Bonner got up and clattered him with a shoulder. Maguire didnt see him coming and took a big hit but I dont think you can hold Bonner accountable given the circumstances.

Probably not, every team slows the other team down to some extent during a game.

To say that Gollogly never meant harm to McHugh, is a contradiction in terms. It was reckless, and when you are reckless the last thing in your head is whether the opponent is ok or not, it is the same as crashing a car into a wall and hoping that the passenger will be ok.

There was no mention of this tackle on the day of the game, because there was no report in clones about the extent of the injuries and because it was not a match winning/losing issue, Monaghan won.

I think that there is a huge issue here in fielding smaller footballers against lads that are 3 stone heavier than them. There is an issue of responsibility with the management too, if this sort of tackle does not stop, then there is a danger in putting a smaller man on the field.

marvinberry.....

I fractured my ankle in a soccer game....didn't get it treated....strapped it and played the next weekend. I got a worse tackle that weekend on the same ankle and went to hospital and had a double fracture.

On returning 9 weeks later.....I came on as a sub for my club kicked two points and had a tooth knocked out subsequently.

The next weekend I started and got tackled and got cracked ribs a slightly dislocated shoulder and a dislocated finger from one tackle!!!!

I didn't get injured for over two years after that.....

ITS A MANS GAME BOYS....GET OVER IT.

I wasn't "TARGETED"

Ah Jim mcguinness needs to man up and shut up, when ger Brennan nearly took the head off Declan O'Sullivan in the AI 2011 he just got up and got on with it and when Tadhg Kennelly nearly took the head off Nicholas Murphy in 09 Murphy just got on with it, and I thought we were supposed to be the southern softies. Jim must be talking to ulserman lol.
