Mc Guinness fearful

Any thoughts on what Jim said after the Laois game last night regarding the injury to Mark Mc Hugh and high level of physicality in football? Is there anything that can be done? Really Is Jim is complaining about the physicality of the game? Because a certain book says him and his team went out to take out players by what ever means possible by been 'physcial' and they did just that to Johnny Doyle in 2011 in the opening minutes.

I agree the tackling and physicality now is frightening. With, speed, and bulked body mass there are some savage hits in football. The injuries don't sound good and he has a point a serious spinal or head injury will have huge implications for the game.

While I sympathise with Mark McHugh, but all Jim McGuinness does is moan. He has a problem with absolute everything.

Now this is disgraceful in my opinion it was unfortunate that Mark suffered such an horrific injury and very regrettable. It was an almighty collision but read between the lines he believes Donegal are being targeted this is completely false. Stephen Gollogly is not a dirty player and a smaller man than McHugh he was slightly late but made genuine attempt to get to the ball.

Maybe Jim should take a leave out of his supporters book and stop moaning.

In fairness shaggy all the talk about a 50/50 tackle is nonsense. He was late and went for the player and not the ball. Jim is right and I started a similar thread bit wad meet with disregard. What is going to happen when a lad gets seriously injured. There seems to be some sort of acceptance of these tackles. Tackle hard and fair.

So your telling me he went to take Mark McHugh out? Nonsense only a coward would pull out of that tackle

In fairness to McGuinness he did say that Monaghan won the game 'fair and square' and he didn't want to take anything away from their victory. Still it's hard to know what point he was making. Gallogly went for the ball. Should the player pull out of the tackle to ensure personal safety?

He was late, but marginally late. I don't think he tried to injure McHugh like McGuinness appears to be suggesting but it is a bit worrying that all the gain in muscle mass could result in injuries. There are still lightweight players like McHugh, Gooch and McCaffrey to name a few, McHugh got serious injuries being hit hard by Gollogly - another small man. Imagine it was Darren Hughes or Owen Lennon who had hit McHugh? It is a dilemma, but it isn't happening solely in Donegal. Our own Paul Mannion got a bad concussion in the league in a similar situation.

I remember Jim nearly decapitating Larry Reilly many years ago with a very high tackle in Clones when Larry was in full flight..
Bit of a hypocrite complaining now.

Sometimes its best to say nothing at all. He is moaning about a bunch of payers so well conditioned that would put American Special forces to shame. I see Sean Cavanagh do a reckless tackle on Ciaran Whealn back in the day, took whelo out, 6ft 4 bloke footed. Didn't Pillar Caffrey having a moan about it. Why is it there is always drama with JIm? And thats a genuine question.

It reminded me of one of those statements that start with 'Im not a racist, but...'

LOL, Cavan cant still be sore about that game can they? Lets not rewrite history. He struck him, and was lucky to stay on the field, but I've seen a hell of a lot worse.

Gallogley obviously didn't go in with the intention of putting him in hospital, but it was still an extremely reckless challenge. And as Jim said, thats 4 concussions in 3 games.

The only replay i seen was in slow motion. Which makes it worse than it was.

What is the thing that links all these concussions? Is it donegal that are being reckless?

Ridiculous to suggest Gollogly intended to take out McHugh, he's a tough but fair fella and he only went for the ball. Gollogly's eye completely swoll over and he was wearing an eyepatch into the week. Unfortunately these things happen sometimes and I hope McHugh gets back to full health as soon as possible.

Since you're into your analogies today Master, thats the equivalent of a wife beater saying 'she asked for it.' Donegal have played 4 games where the other team has gone hell for leather in trying to match their intensity from 2012. This has led to some over zealous challenges going in, which is causing injuries. As hard as Donegal's tackling has been over the klast few years, it has rarely been dangerous

Come on guys, all we have here is a manager who is concerned for the health of his players. 4 concussions in 3 games is serious stuff & deserves a proper response other than "McGuinness moaning again".
Concussion is a serious affair & when he says that the game isn't worth it then I agree with him. It has nothing to do with winning or losing games but these players, from every county, give us so much that a rule bringing in red cards for reckless challenges wouldn't go amiss, intent or not. It is in soccer already where if you go in studs up, off you go.
This is all about safety, nothing else.

It clearly isnt... I dont see how you can make this connection at all... The example that was given was the gallogly-mchugh incident which was a total accident, therefore nobody 'asked for' anything.
